  1. Thanks Irene. It's in the main folder as you said and all the new ATI cards from the 5700 to 5900 series are there. Whew! At least I can relax myself now knowing my soon to arrive computer with the 5850 will work. Nyll
  2. According to information quoted by Ella McMahon in jira issues relating to the 5700 and 5800 series ATI Radeon cards, both series are on the new gpu_table for Viewer 2. I can't locate that new gpu_table so if Ella reads this, I'm hoping she posts a link. Nyll
  3. Hi Rosaria! I'm not running either of those cards but I currently run SL on an ATI Radeon X1500 card at mid settings with little problem and have a new computer on order with the HD 5850 card. The two cards you mention are some way below ATI's top end 5850 and 5870 cards in terms of performance (and also price!) but should run SL very happily indeed. If cost is a concern, consider also the previous version of the 5770, the 4770, said to outperform the newer card in many respects but then the 5770 has Direct 11x support while the 4770 has only 10.1x support. Note that the 5770 is a full height card so check space. The 5750 I believe is more like a less powerful version of the 5850. The NVidia alternatives to the two you mention are probably the GTX 250 and GTX 260 if you want to look at them. I would suggest you do some research on the internet as there are a number of comparison reviews between the 5750 and 5770 and either of these against the NVidia alternatives. Hopefully someone actually using one of these cards for SL will chime in. Nyll
  4. Hi! No you can buy land by right clicking on the parcel and select Buy. The box will tell you if you have enough funds and what the tier will be. Confirm and the land is yours. When I said IM the owner, I meant see if you can get a better deal on the price..haggle a bit and try and get it cheaper. Nyll
  5. Hi Becca, Right click on the object in your Inventory and select Rename from the list (assuming this is permitted). Nyll
  6. This is quite a naive question given your name choice. I should think most store owners/managers who see you in their sims or stores will ban you. Unfortunately, many people come to rue the day they chose their first name. Your only hope is that LL become aware of your ill-chosen name and force you to change it but I fear that may be unlikely. Take the suggestion offered and start a new account. Nyll
  7. Aticus.Silvershade wrote: im not 14 days old yet, but that is rediculous...im paying a monthly fee for the same services i was getting as a basic member then is what you are saying.... Well, it's not what I'm saying, it's what LL is saying in its auction FAQ, which perhaps you should have read first if bidding for a particular piece of land was your sole reason for becoming a premium member. Your reply is somewhat disineguous; you have many more options available as a Premium Account holder besides the ability to bid at auction. And remember that land auctions are forever appearing so you'll find something else just as good sooner or later. Don't forget to peruse the vast land sales on Search. Prices are extremely low in may places and deals can be done by IMg land owners. Nyll
  8. I'm not online so not sure how old your avatar is. The rule is: Can anyone in Second Life buy land in the auctions? No. Only residents that have Premium memberships and are at least 14 days old are eligible to participate in auctions. http://usd.auctions.secondlife.com/scripts/faqs.asp Nyll
  9. Hi BloodJenny! There is a host of titlers on the market so you will have to try and locate the one you own in your inventory. These invariably have 'Titler' in the name so should be simple to locate. Select 'wear' to add it as an attachment again. You should have instructions with the titler on operating it. Nyll
  10. I run SL using an ATI Radeon X1550 with a Dell Dimension 4600 on XP. I use Catalyst 8.9. Never went beyond that as it runs fine as is. I've never tried it with Windows 7 or Vista. Disable Catalyst AI. It often causes problems. Nyll
  11. Odd. I'm not getting that error. No problem with the download. Nyll
  12. Wow! I won't be trying the new Beta viewer then. Nyll
  13. Hi Bo, I suspect you will have to reset your user settings so move your Settings files to a temporary directory then restart SL, which will set up new default settings. Hopefully that will solve your problem. If you are logged in you can find the location from Preferences > Communication > Change Path or else: http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/User_settings Nyll Message was edited by: Nyll Bergbahn....oh you're on Emerald so use the Prefs/Comm link to find them if you don't know where they are.
  14. Hi Autumn, This came up before so I took a note of it. Instructions for the Emerald viewer: Edit > Preferences Select the Emerald tab Select the Shields tab Uncheck Broadcast Camera Focus Point Seems that stops your head following your cursor. Nyll
  15. The default avatar you chose at the beginning can be changed at any time. You can change skin, shape, hair, clothes, whatever. If you look in your Inventory > Library, you'll find the rest of the default avatars (can't recall the folder..clothing I think) and you can change to one of them. Each folder contains a skin, shape and clothes and some other bits. If it's an icon double click to wear or if it's a little box right click on it and select wear. You can change the default hair volume, shape, colour etc from the Appearance menu (right click on your self and select Appearance in the pie chart). You can also change body features here too. http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Appearance_Mode Basically you can be what you want in SL be it male, female, a cardboard box, a dragon, whatever. It's just a matter of changing shapes, skins or wearing parts. You can also find a huge variety of shapes, skins, clothes and prim hair etc at freebie places or buy better quality ones in stores. Use the Search box and type freebie or free shapes or whatever and then teleport to the location shown. Nyll Message was edited by: Nyll Bergbahn............I'm too slow typing
  16. Hi Emmelia! I've never seen anything like this before. Are you by chance wearing any HUDs or attachments that could be causing this. Remove any you have on and see what happens. Nyll Message was edited by: Nyll Bergbahn....I see Cinn thought so too. I've used so-called sl drugs and other things that cause screens to go weird and I suspect it's something like that.
  17. Thats the thread I was thinking of Baeric. Thanks. Nyll
  18. Yes, I discovered this thread (not the one I saw before) which mentions music streams too. https://blogs.secondlife.com/thread/3597 Nyll
  19. Hi Doris, No it's not possible. I recall this topic coming up in another thread a while back and the computer geeks said no. Even with an IP address you can only get the general area and not a precise location. To prove their point some were giving out their IP addresses openly on the thread. Nyll Message was edited by: Nyll Bergbahn...actually I think the thread I read was in the old forum.
  20. Hi Irene, A quick search revealed some figures but no recent ones. Way back in early 2005 the number of premium accounts was 5,000. It grew to 95,000 over the course of a couple of years but was declining through 2008 from about 92,000 down to less that 85,000 by the end of that year with a falling graph. I've no idea what the 2009 figures were but in view of the lure of the Linden Homes I guess some action was needed to perk up Premium membership. Nyll
  21. You're very welcome Felicia. Nyll
  22. ATI graphic card problem..well known. Edit > Preferences > Graphics > Hardware Options (bottom right) > uncheck Enable VBO. That should sort it. Nyll
  23. Hi Avatar! I've no idea why Search would make you crash unless it's a SL bug, especially if happenening to others too. Probably best to submit a ticket. I haven't heard of any plans for teen premium homes. Nyll
  24. Switching off Hover Tips in the View Menu will not stop hover tips appearing over buttons, just over objects in the online world such as vendors and the like. Nyll
  25. Hi Chele! You are perfectly correct. You have to be a premium member for 14 days before you can buy land at auction but there is no such restriction on buying mainland from normal land sales. http://secondlife.com/land/faq/ Nyll
