  1. Hi Jordan! If it's a scripted vendor, you click the vendor to get the menu and disable hover text. If it's an object with a simple hover text script in its Contents tab you would think you could just right click/edit then open the Contents tab and delete it. Unfortunately, that still leaves the hover text visible. Hover or floating text is a prim property and not dependent on a script for its continued existence. What you should do is open the contents tab then open the hover text script and delete all the hover text wording between the inverted commas but leave the inverted commas alone. Then your text will disappear as there is no text left to display. In other words you may have "click here for landmark" as hover text. After deleting the words you just have "". There is also another script you can place in the contents tab if you go the delete route which nullifies the remaining hover text. I think I have it somewhere but not online at the moment. However the method I suggested above will work. Nyll
  2. You're very welcome Vala and I'm so glad you're able to access Second Life again. Enjoy and have fun! Nyll
  3. Hi Vala! The specs and reviews for the Asus EAH4550 are good and it should run Second Life very easily. You can check what driver the card is using by opening your Catalyst Control Centre from the Start Menu > Programs and looking at the Information Center tab. The latest for your card is Catalyst Version 10.4 but unless your card is showing a driver in the early to mid 8's (which caused some problems with SL - 8.11 and 8.12 actually came after 8.9 and just before 9.1 and were fine) it still should run fine without updating. My new computer runs on Catalyst 10.4 but my older computer runs happily on 8.9 when the latest driver for it is actually 10.2. If updating the driver, you need to unistall the existing one first. http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx If the driver is ok and still crashing, I would suggest you open your Catalyst Control Centre and select the 3D Graphics tab then disable Catalyst AI. Also disable Antialiasing. Have Smoothvision Anistropic Filtering set to Let the application decide. Then try opening Second Life. If you can get to the login screen now, select Prefs > Graphics > Hardware Options and disable antialiasing if ticked. Then you can go back into Catalyst Control Centre and change Antialiasing to Let the application decide. You should also have Enable VBO unticked in SL Prefs Hardware Options. Nyll
  4. Hi Irene! When questioned on falling Premium subscriptions in 2008, Linden Labs CEO, Mark Kingdon, is on record as saying "Premium subscriptions are immaterial in our overall business" and Linden Labs CFO, John Zdanowski said "'The revenue we generate from premium subscriptions is largely offset by the stipends we pay out to these account holders, so this decline doesn't have a material impact on our business." Many Premum accounts did not have land holdings and in actual fact, Linden Labs were losing money on the older Premium accounts (annual/quarterly) where they pay 500L stipends. The only way they were making any real money was if Premium accounts holders purchased mainland and paid tiers as well. I guess sometime last year there was a change of strategy to one devised to encourage a growth in Premium subscriptions with more stipends feeding back into the ecomomy as well as hoping many of the new Premium subscribers would gravitate to the mainland after their Premium Home experience. While the comment you posted seems encouraging on the success of the Linden Homes, it remains to be seen how many new Premium members do move on to the mainland. I doubt we'll see a published figure for Premium subscribers until the final 2010 figures are produced and only then if it shows a sizeable increase in number. So many Linden Homes seem to be owned but vacant. Looks like many Premium subscribers grabbed the Homes because they were free but live elsewhere, either on private land or had land tier to spare so the Home did not increase it.
  5. If you are an estate owner you have access to Linden Labs Concierge Service and you should use it. http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Linden_Lab_Official:What%27s_Concierge_service_and_how_do_I_get_it%3F
  6. Your name is not appearing in People Search on the Aditi grid so that's why you can't get in. The Beta grid isn't updated the way the main grid is but I would have thought an eight month old account would have access. LL say: If your account is too new, you may not be able to login to grid without getting your account manually transferred. Also if your password has changed recently it may not be the same as the one stored on Aditi. For any Aditi login errors with your password contact Oskar Linden inworld on the normal (Agni) grid. By the way, I see from your last post that you use Emerald. You should install and use one of the official Second Life viewers to check your Inventory and see if that resolves your problem. If it does, Support are unlikely to deal with an Emerald specific problem but instead refer you to the Modular Systems web site. If your inventory loss is the same on the official viewer, then of course it can deal with it. Linden Lab does not provide customer support services for issues related to Third-Party Viewers. If you are a user of a Third-Party Viewer, you may contact us for customer support, but if we believe your issue is related to your Third-Party Viewer, we may not be able to assist you and may direct you to the Developer of the Third-Party Viewer. If you are a Developer, we urge you to provide customer support services for issues related to your Third-Party Viewer.
  7. Assuming you have already done a full manual cache clearance and been unsuccessful, logging in to the beta grid can sometimes recover lost inventory. If you are using SL 1.23.5 or Viewer 2 press Ctrl+Shift+G (toggles access to beta grid) and you will see another drop down menu pop up under start location. Click the arrow and select Aditi. Aditi is the beta grid and Agni is the main grid. Ignore the rest as they do not have public access. If you are using Emerald, select grid_secondlife_beta from Load a Saved Login. Ensure your start location is Home if you've never been there before. You won't have a Home location but the login will move you somewhere else. You may notice you are suddenly rich with Lindens but it's just monopoly money not real! USING THE BETA GRID TO RECOVER LOST INVENTORY 1. Login to the Beta Grid and find a quiet place where no one will annoy you while you are trying to solve a problem. DO NOT REZ ANYTHING WHILE ON THE BETA GRID. GO INTO BUSY MODE IMMEDIATELY. DO NOT ACCEPT ITEMS, DO NOT DELETE ITEMS, DO NOT PASS OR RENAME ITEMS. 2. Open your inventory, type in a search term and allow your inventory to populate. 3. Got your goods back? Awesome! Quit the Beta client, login to the Main Grid and do the same thing. Once you have retrieved your items on the Main Grid and your inventory has fully populated, logout and cache that stuff. 4. Log back into the Main Grid, recheck inventory, smile a lot, raise Hell as usual. This technique has been proven to work more than half the time so it may save your hide. Please bear in mind that you should only expect positive results if you attempt this workaround as soon as possible upon discovery of your missing items. I am not guaranteeing that you will be able to recover your items but having at least a chance at doing so is much better than no chance at all. I hope this helps some of the residents that fall victim to this issue.
  8. You're very welcome. Glad that worked for you!
  9. Frustrated or not, your question was phrased rudely and nobody here likes OPs shouting at us in capital letters and four question marks. You were still shouting in your next post. Yet still, you got your question answered. I thought Unklebob's answer was really funny but I guess you didn't get the irony. Next time you have a question, ask politely. We're residents here of our own volition, not Linden employees. We answer questions best we can but none of us appreciates rudeness so please take your own advice in that regard.
  10. I should add that this problem is often caused by a firewall configuration issue but as you obviously were able to log in before, it's not likely to be the problem now. However, here is the relevant wiki page: http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Linden_Lab_Official:When_I_log_into_Second_Life,_it_gets_to_%22Waiting_for_Region_Handshake%22_and_stops.
  11. Hi Humphrey! Try logging in to a different location. You can choose where to login by ticking a box in Preferences > General > Start Location > tick Show on Login Close program and open again to login screen Type in Pooley or Aqua or some other location you know.
  12. Not the thread I was thinking about but here's another on the same topic. https://blogs.secondlife.com/message/154970
  13. Are you also logging in with 1.23.5 at times too? If so, things get very mixed up when you go back to Viewer 2 and it definitely won't recognise changes made in the other viewer. There was another thread on this recently with a proper explanation if I can find it.
  14. Thanks for that link Torley. To be honest, after three and a half years in SL, I felt slightly embarrassed having to ask how to complete such a simple task as giving inventory. I did find the IM method as that's the same as in 1.23.5 but the other kludge of opening up a second inventory window escaped me at the time. I kept thinking to myself, there must be a quick way and I'm just not seeing it so that method never struck me. Hope you can persuade the designers to make the interface more intuitive.
  15. That's brilliant Ursula! So glad that worked.
  16. Hi Deanna! You got me now..I don't know the answer to that glitch. Maybe someone else does. However, as a full region owner you are entitled to help from Concierge Services and I'm sure they can assist you solve this. You should have been given the contact information to Concierge Services via email according to this web page. http://secondlife.com/support/concierge.php Hope they can sort it for you.
  17. Sends Unklebob back to school to redo the maths course.
  18. Hi Ursula! That's weird. Try clearing your browser cache including form data and try again. To delete your browsing history, cookies, saved passwords and form data from Internet Explorer: Click the Tools button in the Internet Explorer toolbar. Select Delete Browsing History... from the menu. Click Delete All.... As an alternative, you can choose to delete Temporary Internet Files (the browser cache), Cookies, Form Data or Passwords selectively using their respective buttons. Click Yes. Close all Internet Explorer windows.
  19. Thanks Calica! I'll drop you an IM when I'm inworld later today.
  20. oops..I had another question typed and forgot to change the thread title when I deleted it and asked this. Edited to correct thread now. Thanks for the reply Lilly. I knew there had to be a simpler way.
  21. During one of my forays into the tortuous world of Viewer 2, I became mystified as to how to give an item to someone else. The only  way I could find was to open an IM window  and drop the item there. I can't drop an item onto the Search window for the person and if the Inventory tab is open you can't drag  an item to the other person's Profile as the Profile tab won't open  when you drag the item onto it. I can't find anything in the Help Guide and I'm sure there is another simple way but  what is it?
  22. Have you set the Land Contribution and allocated it to the group? Join or Create a Group If you haven't already, you need to join the group you want to deed land to, or create a group. Note: You will need 2 people to create a group. Set Land Contribution Select Edit/Groups from the menubar. A list of the groups you belong to appears. Highlight the group you want to donate to click the Info button. The Group Information box opens. Click the Land tab. In the Your Contribution box, enter the amount you want to donate and click the Set Contribution button. Click Ok. Deed Land to Group Go to the land and right-click it. Select About Land from the pie menu. Click on the General tab. Click the Set button next to the Group name. A list of groups will appear. Select the group you want and click Set. Check the Allow Deed to Group box and click the Deed button. Note: Owner Makes Contribution With Deed combines these steps if you want a shortcut. This assumes you wish to deed and contribute equal amounts. If you get an error that your group does not have enough land credits, first check that you selected the correct group and you allocated enough land in the first step above. Known Issues If you have a parcel that used to be owned just by one owner and is now to be group land, there is sometimes an issue with being able to allocate land to a group as the system is seeing the owner as trying to own double the land as opposed to trying to change his or her allocation. In this case please email support@lindenlab.com for assistance. Nyll
  23. In addition to the excellent link Cinn provided, i would suggest you take a look here and download the psd files for Eli Eloh's skins that she released full perm for the use of everyone subject to certain provisos. The quality and realism of the current generation of second life skins has improved considerably since these were created and subsequently released but these files will give you a good understanding on how to go about creating skins, the various layers and how to organise them, although you can of course decide to do things differently and create your own method but either way you need to be extremely organised. The actual skins are available inworld. If you are using GIMP and not Photoshop, please note GIMP can open psd files. http://www.vintfalken.com/free-full-perm-female-skin-textures/ Nyll
