    RLV

I suggest you find a dominant. They will instruct you in what you need to know.
  2. In the meantime, while you are reading up on the various user manuals for your new toys, you can help your poor submissive to get free. Tell them: Log out. Open the login screen and choose Avatar/Preferences Disable RLVa Close the log in screen Open the log in screen again and log into SL. Click Stand to escape the trap, or log in to a different region, or teleport Home.

    Firestorm

It's free, and although no one can absolutely guarantee the safety of any third party viewer, you may consider the following: The source code is downloadable. If you can read code, you can determine for yourself what's in there and what isn't It's on the list of Approvied Third Party viewers. This does NOT mean that its safety is tested or guaranteed by Linden Lab. But it does mean that the Firestorm team has agreed to abide by the terms of LL's third party viewer policy. A good many thousands of users before you consider it safe enough to use. I'm one of them myself. It may very well be the most popular Second Life third party viewer. Each Second Life viewer is a little different, although they are all based on the same code from LL. They present different interfaces, options, and functions. For example, Firestorm has a built in movelock, media filter option, parcel Windlight, RLVa, pose stand, and animation overrider (animations not included.) Some viewers provide better performance than others, and this may vary, depending on your personal computer setup. Which viewer to use depends on your personal preferences. Find out more at http://www.firestormviewer.org/ One final thought on safety: If a viewer is on the approved TPV list, and it's free to use, in my opinion it's as safe as anything on the internet. If it's not on the list, or they want you to pay money for it (with the exception of the smartphone type viewer apps), then I would be very cautious. A few viewers have been put out there for sale by scammers, claiming to offer illegal "cheat" capabilities and charging a hefty fee. Their use could get you banned from SL, and/or infect your computer or expose you to identity theft.
  4. Head up the butt, we can do. Missing arms, that's another kettle of fish. :smileyvery-happy:
  5. I have a slightly different opinion from Rolig...but I'm not a lawyer or a Linden Lab employee either. IMO, sploders are not skill games. They are gambling, pure and simple, and are prohibited under the Wagering Policy. However, the policy is very loosely enforced, when it comes to sploders, so a lot of clubs still have them.

    Missing L$

First, make double sure that the payment was made to your friend. Lots of people have similar names, or it's possible you clicked the wrong person in a crowd. If that's the case, contact that person and politely ask for the return of the money. They don't have to do it, and Linden Lab won't help you get it back...but it's worth a try. If your transaction log shows you DID pay the right person, and her log shows she never got paid, you should both send support tickets to LL. Include the details from both transaction logs.
  7. A couple of points here... Most of the "modeling schools" in Second Life are, in my opinion, not worth the money. Most models don't actually make any money, and even if you get a gig, the payment will be in the designer's clothes. How can you afford these high prices? The same way most of us do...by buying some $L with a credit card or PayPal. Assuming, of course, that you really want to spend you money on something like this, which I don't recommend. Buy some $L, sure, but then use them to buy your own clothes and accessories. Is this a scam? Yes, again in my opinion. However, it's not against the Terms of Service. Second Life does not protect the gullible, and you shouldn't expect them to.
  8. Try using the Google free public DNS servers. Instructions can be found here: https://developers.google.com/speed/public-dns/docs/using

    Hello

The most likely cause is a poor internet connection between you and the Second Life servers. See this link for things to investigate: http://blog.nalates.net/2011/10/26/troubleshoot-your-sl-connection/
  10. You can file a Support Ticket and request that LL subdivide the land for you. As for finding Abandoned land, there is no special color-coding. However, you can use "Abandoned" as a search filter term when looking for land with the in-world Search, and you can left click the $ tag on For Sale parcels on the map, which will tell you if the land is Abandoned.
  11. Yes we can. Can you? See my blog post on this important question: http://acrossthegridwithlindal.blogspot.com/2012/11/the-mechanics-of-cyber-sex.html
  12. Clothing in Second Life has grown complicated, but it's an easy matter to simply swap the avatar you're wearing for any of a large number of ready-to-wear avatars in your inventory. Here's how: Open your inventory, CTRL+I or the button with a suitcase symbol. Find the folder Library/Clothing Pick an avatar folder from there. Drag it from your inventory and drop it on your avatar, or right click it and choose Replace Outfit, or just double click it. Wait a few moments for your new appearance to solidify. The avatars in the folder "Initial Outfits" are all the new "Mesh" style avatar. They are not editable, and the Appearance menu won't affect them. If you want to be able to customize your look by wearing clothes from different avatar folders, use any avatar that does NOT have "mesh" in its title.
  13. Have you ever purchased anything from the Marketplace before? One of the things that caught a lot of folks (including me) when the direct delivery system was implemented is that it wouldn't let you upload anything unless you'd first made at least one purchase using the system.
  14. To add to Amethyst's comment...tax forms are only required if you do a certain volume of $USD transfers. If you don't take money out of SL very often, it's most likely just a case of waiting a few more days.
  15. beethros is right. Once a group is created, the name cannot be reused, and never really goes away, even if the group is later dissolved. You might want to put some information out to your group members and prospective members to make them aware of the group with the similar name, just so they don't try to join the wrong one.
  16. Try using the free public Google DNS servers. Info here: https://developers.google.com/speed/public-dns/docs/using If that doesn't work, here are other things to investigate: http://blog.nalates.net/2011/10/26/troubleshoot-your-sl-connection/
  17. Yes. But all that has to be simulated in the digital world, with something called "cloth dynamics" and "collision detection." That takes a lot of computing power, and the Second Life servers, and most users' computers, are not up to doing it in real time. Sorry about that.
  18. Victoria, this is the Answers forum, not a forum for general discussions or complaints. But to address your issue in part, Second Life does not have a complex cloth or hair simulation engine, because the performance penalty would be huge. Second Life is not a game, and cannot be optimized for performance the way a game can. It's not a question of wanting to avoid damage. If the skirt on my Victorian gown wasn't phantom, my partner couldn't get close enough to dance with me! So either learn to live with hair poking into your boobs, or buy Mesh hair (it's stiffer and won't have this problem.) If you want damage and combat scores and that other game-like stuff, try a combat region in SL. Or WoW. Hakuran: If the undershirt is not shown as worn, but is still visible, it could be that you're seeing the "painted on" underwear of a modesty skin, as Rolig suggests. Try changing skins to see if this is the case. If that is not the problem, it's most likely a poor internet connection. See this link for many things to investigate: http://blog.nalates.net/2011/10/26/troubleshoot-your-sl-connection/
  19. There should be an option to select your maturity preferences in the Marketplace. See the circled area in the screenshot below. If you don't see that, try refreshing the page in your browser. Or try a different browser. Also, ad blockers can mess with a web page's appearance. If you DO see it, but can't change it, file a Support Case with Linden Lab. Some people have complained about this problem before you, so you might also want to file a JIRA bug report.

  21. Vous devriez aller ici à la fois et suivez les instructions! http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Password-and-account-information/ta-p/700017#Section_.5 (What to do if your account has been compromised)
  22. It's exactly as Ohjiro says. There are several ways to find land to purchase. There is a category for land sales in the Marketplace, and land forums here on the website where parcels are advertised. In world, you can use the Map and Search to find land for sale. To use Search, go to the Land and Rentals tab and select "View All Land and Rentals." Set your search criteria to Mainland, For Sale, and the maximum size or price you're looking for. You can also use search terms like "protected waterfront." To use the Map, click the Land for Sale checkbox in the legend. Parcels for sale will show in yellow. Teleport to ones that you want to check out further. There are also auctions for mainland, although most parcels are sold by direct purchase. The auctions can be found here: http://usd.auctions.secondlife.com/ These work like eBay auctions. I recommend buying a larger parcel than 512 sq m, although it will, as Ohjiro says, incur a monthly fee. But it need not be a large fee. A 1024 parcel will cost you just $5 per month for 234 prims, since you get the first 512 free with your Premium membership. See the tier table here: https://secondlife.com/my/account/landfees.php?lang=en-US What purchase price to pay? Land prices vary just like RL real estate. Waterfront land will cost more, maybe $L10 per sq. m or even more. A lot of Mainland is Abandoned Land, and that will cost just $L1 per sq. m. People eager to unload their land may offer it for even less than that. You don't have to accept the seller's offered price. If you think you can negotiate a better deal, IM the seller and make an offer. I teach a class on land at Caledon Oxbridge University. It's held Fridays at 5 pm SL Time, and it's free. I hope to see you there!
  23. Besides Rolig's suggestion, I have a couple of thoughts... ...Have you updated your computer in the last four years? Second Life requires a computer with not only a good high speed internet connection, but a late model graphics card. See here for minimum and recommended system requirements. https://secondlife.com/my/support/system-requirements/?lang=en-US ...Have you updated your viewer? A four year old viewer won't cut it. Here is the download link to the current default viewer: https://secondlife.com/support/downloads/ And here's a link to the popular third party viewer, Firestorm: http://www.firestormviewer.org/downloads/ With any viewer, you should do a CLEAN INSTALL. There's a link to instructions on how to do that at the page where you can download Firestorm.
  24. Besides Rolig's great answer, see my blog post, "Getting Started in Second Life - An Update"
