  1. It's possible the item is set to group use only, or owner use only. Be sure you are wearing the correct group tag.

  7. It's certainly possible to appear unclothed to others...whether you are wearing mesh attachments or not. This can happen even if you appear to yourself to be dressed. The solution is not to argue! Simply say, "I look fully clothed to myself" and offer to take a snapshot and send it to the other person. The question is always, "Is it me, or is it their viewer/computer?" That can be hard to determine, especially if you're in a busy club and lots of things are happening. To avoid argument, it may be simpler to say, "OK, I'll go away and come back when I've got the problem worked out." I don't know of any place that has blanket banned users of Lolas Tangos, but it's possible...any land owner can ban anyone at any time for any reason (or for no reason at all!)
  8. @tornadoswift: You should manually clear your cache (see here for how to do that: http://wiki.phoenixviewer.com/fs_cache_clear Then, turn off your computer and router/internet modem. Wait a couple of minutes. Turn everything back on and reboot. Next, log into a quiet water region, like Pooley or Heckendorf. WAIT for your inventory to load. You can type text into the inventory search box to help speed things up, and you can IM your friends...but don't teleport anywhere or use anything from your inventory until it's done loading. If doing this once or twice doesn't recover the missing items, you can file a support ticket with LL, but this level of tech support is only available to Premium members. If you are not Premium and have lost many valuable things, it may be worthwhile to take a one month Premium membership.

  10. Scripts are enabled by default on Linden Home parcels. You can check this in About Land. Although if it were me, I'd think twice about letting guests run rampant through my house, orgasming all over the place. :smileyvery-happy:
  11. I'm a little worried over your use of the term "claim." That word carries a connotation of "free land," and that isn't exactly the reality here. Abandoned land for sale must be purchased, just like any other land. The price is always set at just $L1 per square meter. It's not free afterwards, either. You don't pay a monthly land use fee on the first 512 sq. m of Mainland you own, but anything over that is subject to fees. Because Abandoned land is only found on the Mainland, you also must be a Premium member to buy it. Not all Abandoned land is for sale. Some will eventually appear in the land auctions on this web site. Some is probably being held by Linden Lab for future use as public land or to preserve access to roads and waterways.
  12. Better to ask this question in the Products Wanted or Employment categories, or maybe in the Mesh forum.
  13. The money was likely "hot"...that is, someone used a stolen credit card to buy $L, or got them illegally in some other way. LL will remove the money from your account, and they might also fine you or permanently ban you. Your account is at least temporarily on hold while they investigate. They are touchy about this these days because of new US laws on virtual currencies. Definitely submit a Support Case explaining your side of what happened.
  14. Ask the creator. You can get that information from the Edit window, General tab.
  15. You should uninstall the new viewer and re-install the previous version, assuming you saved the download file (check your Downloads folder.) If you can't go back to the previous version, then download and try one of the third party viewers. You can also add your voice to BUG-7776. You're not the only person having this problem.
  16. A number of people are reporting this problem. If a clean install has not helped, you should do two things: 1. File a JIRA bug report. Include as much detail as you can about your system and the error messages you are getting. 2. Delete your installation and either re-install a previous version (you did save your prior downloads, right? They should be in your Downloads folder) or install one of the many fine third party viewers. The viewer should not insist you install the latest version if you select the "download and install updates manually" option in Preferences.

    About land

As Muletta says, the land isn't free to purchase, although land can be found for as little as $L 1 per square meter, or even less. You do not, however, get charged a monthly land fee for the first 512 sq. m. You can find land for sale using the Map. Check the Land for Sale box in the legend, and available parcels will be shown in yellow. Teleport to likely looking ones to check them out. When you find one you like, right click the ground, select About Land and use the Buy Land button to purchase it. You can also use Search (CTRL+F.) Select Land and Rentals, then View All Land and Rentals. Use the filter settings to limit results to For Sale/Mainland and your maximum desired size or price range. There is also a Real Estate category on the Marketplace, and Land forums where people advertise their properties. Don't buy land on a private estate. Well, you CAN, and many estates are very lovely places to live, but your tier bonus doesn't apply to estate land. I teach a class on Land in Second Life every Friday, at 1700 SL Time at Caledon Oxbridge University. It's free to attend!
  18. I feel your pain, but a clean install worked here, I just completed it as a test. If you are getting too frustrated, try one of the third party viewers instead!
  19. Now that you've updated your operating system, go back and do a clean install of the viewer software. Here's how: http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/How-to-uninstall-and-reinstall-Second-Life/ta-p/1375231 EDIT: Not everyone is having this problem, but you are not alone. You should do two things: 1. File a JIRA bug report. Include as much detail as you can about your system and the error messages you are getting. 2. Delete your installation and either re-install a previous version (you did save your prior downloads, right? They should be in your Downloads folder) or install one of the many fine third party viewers. The viewer will not insist that you install the latest update if you select "download and install updates manually" in your Preferences.
  20. A complete clean reinstall worked just fine for me. Here are instructions on how to do it: http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/How-to-uninstall-and-reinstall-Second-Life/ta-p/1375231 EDIT: A number of people are reporting this problem. You should do two things: 1. File a JIRA bug report. Include as much detail as you can about your system and the error messages you are getting. 2. 21. It may be less complicated than you think. Click the Avatars button on the left of your screen (looks like two people.) Then choose from among the avatars depicted there, but choose a "classic" avatar, NOT a "mesh" avatar. Voila! Now you can wear traditional shapes, skins, and clothes. EDIT: On re-reading your post, I see that you want to make your avatar "just like you." Even with an editable avatar, this may be harder than you think. The avatar mesh isn't flexible enough to show fine details...that's left as the skin's job. And you might not be able to find a set of shape settings and a skin that get your avatar looking much like your RL self. You can certainly try, though. My suggestion would be to take a couple of photos of yourself in RL, with your hair pulled back, face on and profile. Use these as guides when adjusting the shape sliders. Then go in search of a skin that looks good on the shape you've created. Try the demos, don't buy anything until you find "the one". It's possible to use photos of yourself and apply them to a skin template, creating your own custom skin. However, the results I've seen using this method look pretty creepy. But my REAL suggestion is, don't try to mimic your RL self. Be a new you in Second Life, the best you that you can create.
  22. Your best response is to right click the person threatening you and choose Mute/Block. Then go on merrily about your day. It is extremely hard, and very rare, for someone's Second Life account to be "hacked." It is, however, possible to be TRICKED into giving someone access to your account, usually by being directed to a "phishing" website that looks like an SL website but is designed to get you to enter your user name and password. Be wary of this.
  23. I never let the system install updates. Something can get corrupted. It's much better to do a clean install, and here are the instructions on how to do it:http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/How-to-uninstall-and-reinstall-Second-Life/ta-p/1375231 EDIT: @Wycked Vella: The failure to initialize VFS is generally due to a corrupt download of the installer file. Delete that file from your downloads and re-download a fresh copy. Then do a clean install. SECOND EDIT: A number of people are reporting this problem. You should do two things: 1. File a JIRA bug report. Include as much detail as you can about your system and the error messages you are getting. 2. Delete your installation and either re-install a previous version (you did save your prior downloads, right? The viewer will not insist you install the update if you select "download and install updates manually" in your Preferences.
  24. There is a setting in Preferences/Graphics that enables local lights. Be sure that's on. There is a second setting in the Phototools menu (button like a camera iris), in the Light tab, "Enable Attached Lights (face lights)." Check that one, too.
