  1. If you ask a vague question, you get multiple answers, or vague ones.
  2. Your login name is unique and is yours forever. It can never be changed. Sorry.
  3. Hah! If you're not a member of Second Life, you can't even get in world, so forget about having land at all. :smileylol: As a basic member, you can rent land from another SL resident,or can buy land on a private sim. I have done that for years. There's absolutely no way that you're going to have land without paying somebody, though. If you're not paying a monthly land fee to Linden Lab, then you're paying rent to someone else who is paying the land fee. It sounds like your best plan is not to have land at all. After all, you don't need land to enjoy SL.

    Skirt

That's a tough challenge. Mesh and sculpties are a poor choice because they make it look like you are wearing a box, or maybe a heavily starched skirt --- totally unflexible, which defeats the whole purpose of having a nice, soft skirt. The best you can do is build your skirt with many flexi prims, sweat over making a convincing texture, and play with the flexi parameters until you get the skirt to flow smoothly and softly as you walk. I have had the best results by building a double skirt. The underskirt, with slightly different flexi parameters, moves through the outer one and creates a nice illusion. It wastes prims, but sometimes that's necessary.
  5. I find compiler errors like that very frustrating. We don't have much guidance at all about how to handle them. I have never seen that particular one, but I suspect that you are trying to manage streamed audio files and are doing something that the compiler believes is ignoring the slpugin. Without seeing the script itself, though, all I can do is make a wild guess.
  6. Select the structure, or as much of it as you want to lock, and click the LOCK button that's on the Object page in your Build/Edit tool. ETA: Like most people, I have more than once deleted a part of some structure when I thought I was deleting something entirely different. It always helps to pay attention, but mistakes happen. That's why my house and the walls around my parcel are all locked. Nalates is exactly right, though Having a backup in your inventory is your best insurance. I have been known to unlock something, modify it, and then delete it by mistake. :smileyfrustrated:
  7. SirJohn Swain wrote: [...] There arent multply spots to click on one prim... Sure there are. Scripters use llDetectedTouchST and similar functions all the time. They act like the HTML functions that are used to map touch-sensitive areas on an image. That's a very simple thing to do. Having said that, though, the MOAP screen itself is touch sensitive, just the way that any web page is. Links react to touch and send you to other sites, and anything else on a web page that would normally respond to touch does the same thing on a MOAP image. So, combine the methods used in MOAP with the llDetectedTouch flexibility on an adjacent prim and you have all the functionality of a TV screen with channel-changing buttons. I have also used a familiar dialog menu to accomplish the same thing in systems that I have used for MOAP library information screens in SL. ETA: For one example, visit the reference area at the Community Virtual Library on Info Island and take a look at the On-Line Reference System at http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Info%20Island/126/115/24. Click the Panel that says "Click here to Display on Screen".
  8. Yes. Scripters use the llSetPrimMediaParams function to control the content and behavior of media on a prim (MOAP). That function can be incorporated easily into an LSL script, to make MOAP part of a larger scripted concept. I have created information systems that switch between selected URLs, and I am sure that you can find commercial products in Marketplace that do otehr versions of the same thing. A remote control is a trivial addition, although not a very useful one., After all, you can click on the MOAP object itself from where you sit. Why would you need to click on a remote control that does the same thing?
  9. If you know the name of a specific Linden who handles issues that interest you, you may try sending an IM or e-mail note to that person. Otherwise, the only methods we have are stated here >>> http://community.secondlife.com/t5/General-Discussion-Forum/How-to-Contact-Support/td-p/1286925 . If you are a Premium member, you have more options filing support tickets than if you are a Basic member >>> http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Types_of_Support_Case . For all other issues, SL residents support each other in world or through forums like these.
  10. As with any other business in RL, Linden Lab gets to decide which forms of payment they will accept. You can always call the billing office and ask for a clarification, I suppose, but here's the public statement.... You may use the following payment methods with Second Life: Visa American Express MasterCard Delta Online JCB Discover (U.S. Residents only) Visa Electron (non-U.S. Residents only) PayPal If you have a non-technical issue related to billing concerns, you can call the Linden Lab billing team at the following toll-free numbers: US/Canada: 800-294-1067 France: 0805-101-490 Germany: 0800-664-5510 Japan: 0066-33-132-830 Portugal: 800-814-450 Spain: 800-300-560 UK: 0800-048-4646 Brazil: 0800-762-1132 Long distance ( not free, but you can use Skype to save some cost ) : 703-286-6277 **Note: Support is offered only in English BTW, there are no Lindens here. We're all SL residents like you.
  11. Duplicate post. Original is at http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Technical/Age-Verification-Problem/qaq-p/1552077#M23509
  12. Being verified doesn't mean that you have to GO to adult regions; you just have a permit to go there if the occasion arises. If you don't want to go, or don't care to view Adult items in Marketplace, don't. It's that simple. Who knows? Some day you might meet a friend who has a house on an Adult sim, and might like to visit. Or there might be a concert or some other event you want to attend. I don't believe that it is even possible to Un-verify that you are an Adult. If you are truly concerned about it, though, let me suggest a practical solution. I do believe that there may be a time when you are glad to have that verification, so start a new account but keep this one alive (an alt), so that you're prepared for when that day comes. Alts are handy anyway, so even if this alt never leaves home again, you'll find uses for her. My alt holds half my cash and helps me test permissions on things that I'm about to put up for sale. Maybe yours can too.
  13. Maybe you clicked the word "Language" in the extreme upper left corner of the screen and changed it to French? Try changing it to something else, like English. Heh ... On your screen, it probably says "Langue", which is French for "Language." :smileywink:
  14. Voice is not always as reliable as people might like. Voice failures are almost always due to one of the following reasons: Your ISP is throttling or blocking the voice service; failure of the Vivox service; voice issues on the region you are on; voice being throttled by bandwidth set incorrectly - please check it by following the instructions here; voice hardware (mic, headset) not configured correctly in your operating system settings; voice hardware not configured correctly in the viewer; another application has your voice hardware in use (example, Skype); your anti virus software has “mangled” the voice application; see here. You can test voice by going to Voice Echo Canyon. If voice is working correctly for you, anything you say there will be echoed back to you. There's more specific advice to read here >>> http://wiki.phoenixviewer.com/fs_voice
  15. Try posting them through http://my.secondlife.com/Eloise.Baily. That ought to work.
  16. One way is to open the group's page and look for the key. If you are using the Firestorm viewer, it's right there on top of the window. If you're using a different viewer, you can get the same information by going to http://search.secondlife.com and doing a quick search, using your group's name. When you find it, click on More Info and look at the bottom of the new window for the line that says something like Link to this page: http://world.secondlife.com/group/e7250440-409b-06e0-b943-198fcf2d424f . The string of numbers and letters after the word /group/ is your group's UUID.
  17. You can file an Abuse Report by clicking on Help >> Report Abuse in your viewer. However, be prepared to explain why you allowed your underage daughter to enter Second Life. That is a serious violation of the Terms of Service, for which you can be banned. TOS, Sect 3.2: "You are responsible for all activities conducted through your Account. In the event that fraud, illegality or other conduct that violates this Agreement is discovered or reported (whether by you or someone else) that is connected with your Account, we may suspend or terminate your Account (or Accounts) as described in Section 11." TOS, Sect 2.1 Age Requirements for Second Life.: "By accepting this Agreement in connection with an Account, you represent that you are at least 13 years of age and you have the legal authority to enter into this Agreement. If you are at least 13 years of age and less than 18 years of age, you represent that (i) your parent or legal guardian has consented to your having an Account in Second Life, participating in the Service, and providing your personal information in connection with the Service; and (ii) your parent or legal guardian has read and accepted this Agreement on your behalf. If you are under 13 years of age, then please do not use Second Life. There are lots of other great virtual world services for you. Talk to your parents about which services are appropriate for you."
  18. No, there isn't. If you are using a fake TP -- a "sit" TP within the same region -- then you can control it by setting the orientation of the seat at the arrival spot. There's nothing you can do for a real TP, however. It's been a while since I tested for myself, but if I recall correctly from other conversations, avatars always arrive facing east by default if they are teleporting from another region. If they are teleporting within the same region, I believe they arrive facing the same direction they were facing when they started the TP.
  19. No, but the sim owner may have turned off voice for the entire sim. If so, you can't reverse it at the parcel level. Also, whether you can activate voice may depend on the abilities you have within your group, if the parcels are group-owned.
  20. Internal Animations -- ones that are part of the open library, addressable by name or UUID, are all here >>> http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Internal_Animations . You don't need to have copies of the animations themselves in your inventory, although you may download them as .bvh files if you wish.
  21. Please don't go crazy. It's really quite an easy two-step process. First, you sell your L$ on the Lindex exchange, which operates like any RL currency exchange or stock market. Other SL residents buy your L$ at the current market value or your asking price (if you have set a limit). Then, the proceeds from your trade are deposited in your USD balance, which you can use for paying land fees or other obligation, or can send to yourself through PayPal. The first step --- trading on the Lindex -- is described here >>> http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Buying-and-selling-Linden-dollars/ta-p/700107 . The second step -- issuing a credit payout request -- is covered here >>> http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Account-balance/ta-p/700015#Section_.2
  22. When you buy things on Marketplace on in world, they are often delivered in a box that contains several items. You have to unpack the box before you can use the contents. See >>> http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Opening-boxes/ta-p/700185 for good information about how to find the box in inventory and then open it. Because you are new in SL, it's probably a good idea to learn more about your inventory before you start loading it full of things. Most old-time residents will tell you that they regret not having paid more attention to inventory management at the beginning, while it was still easy to organize and move stuff around. Here's a good place to start >>> http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Using-your-inventory/ta-p/1370823 There are probably many other things that you don't know yet. I've been here over five years and I keep discovering new tools and tricks myself. When you're just starting, there are several basic topics that you really need to study more than anything else --- things like how to move, communicate, and find things. Here's a good place to get started >>> http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Second-Life-Quickstart/ta-p/1087919 Finally, a bit of advice to keep you from sounding like too much of a newbie..... Your avatar is not a "character." She's your avatar, or your "av." And this is not a game. This is Second Life. No points to earn, no levels to achieve, no quest to follow. You can play many games in Second Life, but many of us ignore those entirely. We build, we sell things, we dance, we chat with friends, we decorate our homes, ..... anything we can think of. You are entering a new world. Have fun, and welcome. :smileywink:
  23. Visit http://slurl.com/secondlife/Jass/145/193/25 in world and look for the Mac OS version of JASS-2. JASS-2's basic version is free and is probably adequate for the routine sculpts you are making. The PRO version is only a few dollars, though, so if you are planning to make a lot of sculpties and want to have as much flexibility as possible, that's the way I'd go.
  24. If you expect to be hearing from several different people each time any one of them changes an "outfit", you only need one listener, which you never close. As Innula says, you always know who's speaking. Assuming that the "outfit" is a scripted item that sends a "Hello" message when it is attached ....... llListen(secret_channel,"","","");listen(integer channel, string name, key id, string msg){ llOwnerSay("The UUID of the person contacting me is " + (string) llGetOwnerKey(id) ); llOwnerSay("She is wearing the object called " + name + ", which is sending me the message " +" \" " + msg + " \" ");} This will work as long as the person is in the same sim, using a script that speaks with llRegionSay (or llRegionSayTo). If the person is not in the same region, listens won't work. The best you can do is to either have the outfit scripted to send you (not your object) an IM, or have it send a message by HTTP or e-mail to your object.
  25. Someone who knows her way around the viewer source files (Nalates?) would probably be able to tell you exactly, but to me it looks as if either your user data files or the vewer itself is borked. You might try clearing your cache manually >>> http://wiki.phoenixviewer.com/fs_cache_clear or, if that doesn't work, doing a clean re-install of the viewer >>> http://wiki.phoenixviewer.com/fs_clean_reinstall Both of those links are to information providedf by Firestorm, but they apply to any viewer with minor obvious changes. A clean re-install is a total re-installation of the viewer, clearing out all user data (which is probably where the error lies), so you will end up having to reset all of your Preferencess, which is a pain.
