  1. If you downloaded the Linux version of the viewer, it should automatically load when you double click on the exe file in your Downloads directory. If you downloaded a PC or Mac version, though, it won't do anything. With luck, a Linux expert will wander by shortly and give you more detailed assurances. If you still have trouble after trying that, come back here and add to your post by clicking on the Options link in the upper right corner of your question and selecting EDIT. Please do NOT start a new thread.
  2. Continuation of http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Abuse-and-Griefing/I-refer-to-my-profile/qaq-p/1679187#M4682 . If you have more information to add to your post, click on the Options link in the upper right corner of your question and select EDIT. Please do NOT start a new thread.
  3. We can't do a thing about it. This is a resident-to-resident Answer service. We can tell you how SL works, or try to explain why it doesn't work, but we have no authority or power to do anything with your account. Lindens never come here either, so they won't see your request. The best way to get the situation resolved is to submit a support ticket at https://support.secondlife.com/create-case/ . I suggest using the category Account Issue >>> Account Creation Issue.
  4. No, 1.23 is no longer available. You can probably find places on the Internet to download it from, but I suggest being careful. It would be easy to get an infected copy that way. You can find viewers based on the V1 codebase, like Catznip, CoolVL, and Singularity. If you're having trouble with Phoenix, don't expect miracles with the other V1 viewers. You'll just have to try them out and see what works best on your machine.
  5. If you can log in to your SL account, then you have already made it past any firewall. If you want to give your campus IT folks something to play with, though, give them this >>> http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Using-Second-Life-with-a-firewall/ta-p/1304539 I think it's more likely that your locally cached copy of inventory has been damaged or is out of sync with the real inventory that's on Linden Lab's servers. You can clean out the copy that's there and force download of a new copy this way >>> http://wiki.phoenixviewer.com/fs_cache_clear . Those instructions are written for Firestorm users but they apply to any of the viewers, with obvious small modifications. So how does your cached inventory get borked? It's not hard, especially in a multi-user facility like yours. SL is a bandwidth hog and it depends on having a reliable, continuous data stream between its servers and your machine. If you're using wireless or have a lot of potential signal interference, it wouldn't be hard to mess up a file in transmision.

Three years in sl and this is the first time it has happened. Yeah, I can understand that. I'd be upset too, and I've been here five and a half years. Still, it's a pretty tiny slap on the wrist -- not likely to show up on your felony rap sheet. As others suggested, it's probably something dumb like littering. A prim with your name on it was found at the bottom of a half a ton of garbage .... /me wanders off, whistling Alice's Restaurant .....

Companies do internet searches, and Tweets, Facebook, and blogs all give insight into a person's nature. How someone handles the public news of leaving a company says volumes about them. That Tweet alone tells me that he's not someone, that I would want working at a company, for a product I use. Perhaps the old LL culture was one of dubious professionalism, but if LL wants to be taken serious, then cleaning up language is a good place to start. The language we use tells people who we are. This ^^
  8. Well, by the time you do anything, your one hour suspension will be ended, so it's a moot point. One hour is also a pretty small suspension -- kind of like a parking ticket. Check your spam filter, though. Administrative notices from LL have been known to land there for a lot of people.
  9. You create a second account for SL the same way that you created the first one. Every account is separate, as if you were different people in RL You may have up to 5 accounts (alts) in the same household (IP address). If you have trouble creating an alt, you may file a support ticket at https://support.secondlife.com/create-case/ , using the category Account Issue >>> Account Creation Issues . Be sure to include more specific details than you have provided here.
  10. Linden Lab is so close to phasing out Magic Boxes that I doubt they are trying to fix any new bugs that crop up now. File a support ticket and use the category Marketplace >> General Marketplace Issues. And plan on moving all of your items out of Magic Boxes and into Direct Delivery as soon as you can. Avoid the last-minute rush.
  11. There used to be an option in Preferences the V3 viewer --- a checkbox that says "only friends and groups can call or IM me". I never use the V3 viewer, so I don't know if it's still there. In Firestorm, it's in Preferences >> Privacy. If you can find it in your viewer, UNcheck that box. ETA: Edited as usual for typos. :smileytongue:
  12. As a side note ....... If you are hoping to select and link that many objects, it won't work. You can't link more than 256 prims in a single linkset. If you want to save the collection as a coalesced object, there are also severe constraints. Coalesced objects have prim limits because the time required to rez them can exceed the capacities of Second Life's servers, causing problems when Residents attempt to take complex coalesced objects into inventory. Essentially, rezzing any object causes a sim's servers to stall momentarily so that they can resolve any potential changes in object positions and velocities and pass that information to all viewers currently in the sim. Normally, that stall is unnoticeable, but it increases with the number of prims that need to be rezzed. In order to limit lag, severs will time out a request if they estimate that it will stall the sim for more than 15 seconds. That happens when you have a coalesced object with about 1,000 prims, so the servers will simply reuse to let you save anything larger. If you somehow get away with it and need to rez an object that exceeds the prim limit, create a support ticket requesting that the object be broken into a set of smaller objects.
  13. or default{ state_entry() { llTargetOmega (ZERO_VECTOR,0,0); llRemoveInventory(llGetScriptName()); }} , which takes Darkie's suggestion and then removes itself when it's done, so you don't end up with a useless script in your object. :smileywink:
  14. In Firestorm, the height modifier is in the Quick Preferences button on your lower task bar. If your'e still using Phoenix, go to Preferences >> Phoenix >> Avatar >> X,Y,Z MODIFIER. Changes the default positional offset of your avatar. Ex, if your feet are below the ground due to your shape or shoes, change the Z modifier to move your avatars default height up or down.
  15. You can't have both a Linden Home and a 512 sq m land fee waiver. As soon as you use one option, the other one is unavailable. If you really want a Linden Home, sell or abandon the 1024 mainland parcel. If you want additional property, buy or rent it on a private estate, where your land fee waiver won't work anyway. Frankly, if you have the resources to afford a larger parcel, I'd forget about having a Linden Home. A Linden Home has loads of restrictions: You are not allowed to: Terraform Linden Home land, sell it, deed it to a group, join it with another parcel, or divide the land. Modify the structure. For example, you can not move or eliminate individual components of your Linden Home such as the fireplace or a window. Move or rotate the structure. Your Linden Home must remain as it came on its 512m2 parcel. If you want both a Linden Home and more land for your premium account, you can upgrade on the Land Use Fees page. Also, you agree that your Linden Home: Is for residential use only. Business use of any kind is prohibited, including parcel rental, rental boxes, classified ads or other forms of advertising, and event listings. Will be kept presentable and in-theme. Does not include traffic tracking. Land cannot contain sky boxes, temporary object rezzers, or individual prims beyond the maximum size allowed by the Second Life Viewer build tools.
  16. Clearing your cache is rarely a good idea unless you have reason to believe that your inventory or your texture cache files have been corrupted. Specifically, it will have no effect on teleporting. When you clear cache, it WILL force your viewer to download your inventory and all in-world textures and sounds again. That will make rezzing very slow at first and will increase lag for everyone on the sim while the servers are busy handling your downloads. In general, your cache is your friend. The larger it is, and the less frequently you clear it, the better off you are.
  17. It's extremely hard to say how you might fix the problem without knowing more. What do you mean by "strange movements"? How did you try to stop them? Which viewer are you using? Click on the Options link in the upper right corner of your question and select EDIT to tell us more. Please do NOT start a new thread.
  18. It sounds as if you are continuing to have trouble with your Internet connection, since this is related to the same question you have asked before. If you are using wireless, stop it. Wireless is a lousy way to enter SL. It was never designed to handle the continuous, heavy data streaming that SL expects, and it is vulnerable to too much interference. Use a direct cable connection instead. Also, reboot your router by unplugging it from the power for a few minutes. Follow other suggestions for troubleshooting your Internet connection here >>> http://blog.nalates.net/2011/10/26/troubleshoot-your-sl-connection/ Other things to consider: 1. If your firewall is blocking outbound TCP port 12043, then teleporting, viewing the World Map, crossing regions, and related activities won't work. See Using Second Life with a firewall for more information. 2. Bandwidth settings might be responsible for an unsuccessful teleport. Select Me > Preferences. Click the Setup tab. Reduce the Maximum bandwidth setting to the minimum, "500" kbps. Now, try to teleport to your destination again.
  19. You must first sell your L$ on the Linden Exchange, to place the proceeds into your dollar balance. Then you may choose to withdraw your US dollar balance via PayPal or bank wire. Note: Use a bank wire only under the following circumstances:PayPal will not permit payments to your country. You are expecting payment of $10,000 or more. For instructions on setting up wire transfer payments, see Setting up process credit payments through a wire transfer. Depending on which withdrawal option you choose, you may be subject to fees and minimum withdrawal amounts. For current information on process credit requests, check out the Process Credit page on the Second Life website. To view a full history of your process credit transactions, see the Process Credit History page. Please be aware that LindeX processing through PayPal can take up to five business days (Monday-Friday, not including U.S. holidays). Bank wire payout request processing time is fifteen business days. Holidays and high transaction volume can affect processing times. Important: You must be in full compliance with the Second Life Terms of Service to receive any payment through the credit payment process. This includes, without limitation, the requirement to have accurate and complete registration information, including verifiable billing information.
  20. That message has nothing to do with your house. It sounds as if your house is being returned as soon as you rez it because either (1) the house is too large -- too many prims or too high a Land Impact, or (2) your parcel is too small. Always be sure that you know how many prims your land will allow before you make major purchases. My personal rule is that a house should not use more than about 40 to 50% of your prim allowance if you are going to have anything left for decorations, landscaping, and living.
  21. This question has been asked many times, most recently here >>> http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Viewers/want-ask-wen-second-life-can-add-Arabic-language-with-sl-viewers/qaq-p/1672139 . The answer will always be the same.
  22. There are several ways to do it, but the easiest is to rez the skybox on the ground first, as close to the middle of your parcel as possible. (Always open your Build/Edit tool (CTRL + 3) first, before you rez something as large and complicated as a house. That way, you will be able to move it as soon as it's rezzed with no trouble.) Once the house is rezzed, move it on your parcel so that all parts of it lie completely inside the parcel and don't lap over onto a neighbor's parcel. Then lift it to your desired altitude by typing the altitude into the Z Position box on the Object page of your Build/Edit tool. (Not the Z Size box.) Here are some other useful instructions >>> http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/How-to-move-a-build/ta-p/919109#Section_..4.3
  23. Do you mean coalesced objects? They should appear in your inventory with an icon that looks like a small stack of bricks. Unfortunately, the object name may not be as easy to identify. A coalesced object takes the name of the last item that was added to it (analogous to what would be the root prim if it were a linked object). Look in the obvious places first (Lost & Found, Objects, .... ) and then try using the Recent tab in inventory to filter your search for things you have picked up recently.

    A land question

Gee, I don't remember typing that one, Val. :smileyhappy: The point to re-emphasize is that you can't just retexture part of a sim, unless you are dropping a textured prim on the land like a blanket. You have to do the whole sim.
