  1. I can't get in world to check right now, but I think you ought to be able to open the World >>> Estate/Region tool and see that information in the Terrain tab. You'll see a thumbnail of the texture rather than the name, but I suspect that the Mainland textures are all in the Linden Lab default set that's in your Inventory's Library >>> Textures folder. You can figure out which ones are which by comparison. You should be aware, of course, that the specific texture that is applied at any elevation is semi-random. The servers blend texture in the transition zone between assigned texture zones to make a smoothly graded appearance, and that blending adjusts periodically.
  2. Check out the Third Party Viewer list. There are several TPVs for mobiles now, and most are text-only.
  3. Agreed. You aren't the first person to point this oddity out in forum conversations, Peter, but nobody has taken the time to change the language. Go for it.
  4. When you modify your script, either put the owner's name into it directly or use llRequestAgentData (llGetOwner(),[AGENT_NAME]) to get the owner's name. Then put it inllSetText to create the floating text.
  5. It all depends on whether LL feels that someone has violated the TOS. Their position on interpersonal disputes is open-ended (TOS, Sect 6): "You are solely responsible for your interaction with other users of the Service, whether online or offline. We are not responsible or liable for the conduct or content of any user. We reserve the right, but not the obligation, to monitor or become involved in disputes between you and other users." In practice, this has usually meant that they keep a safe distance and let residents deal with their own issues. There are of course sections of the TOS that you could quote in submitting an AR. For example, (Sect 6, 2) "You will not .... (iii) Engage in malicious or disruptive conduct that impedes or interferes with other users' normal use of or enjoyment of the Service;" or (from the Mainland Policies) "Subdivision is considered 'land cutting' when a resident extensively subdivides land into smaller parcels for the purpose of further 'renting' or 'selling' those parcels — and it is not allowed. Other prohibited land cutting includes subdividing land in a manner that decreases the ability of other residents to enjoy their land, collaborate and/or exercise land-management controls, or in a way that constitutes harassment of another resident." You should decide for yourself whether specific parts of the TOS and incorporated policies are relevant to your situation and then refer to them specifically in your AR, avoiding speculation and inflammatory language. In the end, LL will decide what to do, if anything.
  6. No. You should read the full covenant for your Linden Home, which says, in part: Land cannot contain sky boxes, temporary object rezzers, or individual prims beyond the maximum size allowed by the Second Life Viewer build tools.
  7. When you have the box selected with your Edit tool, just look at the General page and click the botton that says For Sale and then select CONTENTS from the dropdown menu next to it. Set your sale price and click Apply.
  8. On my computer, it's in the Windows\System32 directory on my C: drive. If you have restored it, reboot your computer and then give your viewer a try to see what happens. You may need to reinstall the viewer. If so, do it carefully so that you don't inherit and damaged files from a previous installation. Here's how >>> http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/How-to-uninstall-and-reinstall-Second-Life/ta-p/1375231 ETA: Oh, and follow KarenMichelle's advice. She's SMART! :smileyvery-happy:
  9. linoleum wrote: [ .... ] More additional comments: I am using FIOS so not sure how I change the DNS, but I'll look into it. This is definitely not an ISP out of someone's garage. It is VERIZON! I'm surprised that I'm the only one that has experienced this. I would like to find out if it's something in my settings or something. I guess that would be hard to ascertain. Is there a way to escalate this issue? The fact that nobody else has reported this (ever, as far as I can tell) suggests again that it's something unique to your computer or its Internet connection. I have done some searching for clues but I am coming up empty. It certainly has me stumped at this point, although someone else my stumble in with an insight. There is no "escalation" from here. This is a resident-to-resident Answers service. Lindens never come here or even look at the posts. If you are a Premium member, you can submit tickets on technical issues and you have Live Chat as well. Generally speaking, you get better advice here (and certainly faster) than you get by submitting support tickets to Linden Lab, but the best we can do is draw on our collective experience and our familiarity with the wiki and archive resources.
  10. You'll have to create a group and then SET your Linden Home to that group (not DEED it -- you can't deed a Linden Home). Once you have done that, you click the boxes in About Land >>> Options to allow only group members to create objects or bring objects into your parcel. Then finally, you invite your partner to join the group and give her a role that allows her to create objects, set the music stream, and so on. I suggest the role of "Officer". Read these two articles about creating groups and setting your land to the group. http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Creating-managing-moderating-and-disbandin... http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Managing-your-parcel/ta-p/700113#Section_.... One word of advice: When you set up your group, it is very wise to have a co-owner for the group. It would be smart to make your own alt that co-owner. Sad to say, friendships and partners in SL are not necessarily permanent. Group owners ARE. Once you have made someone else a co-owner, you cannot ever kick that person out, no matter how much you may regret having invited her in the first place. The only person you know that you can trust as a co-owner is your own alt.
  11. Nope, we don't do that here. That's what makes hunts fun for some people, though, so keep at it. If it was easy, it wouldn't be much of a hunt. :smileywink:
  12. linoleum wrote: A[ .... ] Per your request I am adding to my comment with additional information: You may be skeptical but it is happening and Second Life is causing the problem. This has now happened at least 8 times. The SL application freezes then I get a message saying that Second Life has logged me out and the whole screen turns gray. It doesn't knock out the internet every time, it happens but about 50% of the time. I have to call my ISP because rebooting my router doesn't work. They reboot from some other area in their internal system, I don't know the technical specifics. Thanks for the added information. I still can't imagine how it is possible, or what your ISP is rebooting. If the message says that you are being logged out, though, then it's not a crash. You are timing out for some reason. You have lost the connection. Have you tried changing (or adding to) your DNS addresses? That can sometimes clear up transient connection problems. First, try flushing your DNS cache; how to do that is explained here for Windows, Linux, and older Mac operating systems. For newer Mac operating systems (Lion and Mountain Lion), see here. if this doesn't help, then try setting your DNS to Google: Google Public DNS If using Google as a DNS does not work for you then see here for alternate servers, or grab DNS Bench to help you locate one.

  14. No, there really isn't. That's why Linden Lab has this warning in their informational blurb about reinstatement: Warning: Even if your account is restored, the associated inventory, land, and Linden dollar balance may be unrecoverable. The longer you have been out of SL, the higher the probability that your stuff has been overwritten in the asset servers or simply corrupted with age. ETA: It can sometimes take several calls to Live Chat or repeated support tickets to clean up a reactivated account as much as possible, though, so don't give up until you have pursued that route as far as it will take you.
  15. Innula's approach is the easiest if you already have the sculpt door. If you haven't made it yet, though, you can save yourself some land impact and probably get a nicer looking door if you make it mesh instead. Not only that, but if you create the mesh door properly, you can get it to rotate around its edge. See to see how to do it. Once you have that, you can use a simple "cut prim" script to rotate it.
  16. Go to your dashboard and change it. secondlife.com >>> Account >> Change Password
  17. I have never heard of such a thing, and I'm skeptical that it's even possible unless "reboot the network" means that you're rebooting your own router or modem. There shouldn't be any need to call your ISP to do that, though. That's purely local. And there really is no way that your ISP has to reboot their network. If it were possible for you to mess up their system, they'd have a lot of other angry customers looking for you and I doubt that they'd ever let you back in. It's hard to know how to address your question with the information you provided, but I suspect that you have not been crashing at all. That is, SL is not crashing your system; your system is disconnecting from SL. Do you get any error message from Second Life when it happens? EXACTLY what does it say? Under what conditions do you "crash"? Are you always doing the same thing? If you want to provide extra information or need to clarify your question, click on the Options link in the upper right corner of your question and select EDIT. Please do not start a new thread. Doing that makes it hard for us to see what other people have already suggested, and it pushes other residents' questions off the page.
  18. That "Waiting for Region Handshake" message usually means that the connection has timed out while te server was waiting for some kind of response from your viewer. That can be a sign that you have a very long ping time or simply that your connection isn't stable enough. If you happen to live outside North America, where ping times to San Francisco are usually under 150 msec, then this can be a chronic problem. If you're closer, it can still be a transient problem if your local ISP has decided to start doing system upgrades at 2 a.m., for example, or if there's some interference in your neighborhood at that hour. You might give your ISP a call or check to see if the guy next door has been firing up his TARDIS recently.
  19. One of the earlier versions of the Firestorm viewer (4.4.0, maybe?) used to do that if you were running it with Windows XP. That bug was fixed in later versions and it never affected users with other versions of Windows. That's the only time I've ever heard of the behavior. Other than that, the only thing I can suggest is the standard advice to avoid wireless connections and try rebooting your router to assure a stable Internet connection.
  20. I assume that you have been reading recent threads about Marvelous Designer in the forums (like this one) and are aware that you cannot export a Collada.dae file from it to Second Life. You can only export an OBJ file which you then need to manipulate in a second program like Blender or Maya before you can upload it to SL. If you are planning to create rigged clothing, you will also need Avastar or some other program to do that.
  21. You write your own LSL script or you hire a scripter to write a custom script for your book attachment, assuming that you have either created your own book attachment or hired a 3D modeler to make one. I am not aware of a specific product like that on the market today. If you can't find one by searching in Marketplace, you might try posting in either the Wanted forum or the InWorld Employment forum.
  22. It can take several days and a few repeated conversations with Live Chat (or support tickets) to get an account fully reactivated. Depending on how long it has been since you canceled the account, it can apparently take a bit of work to get all of its files active. Even at that, there is no guarantee that you will be able to recover your old inventory. Meanwhile, be sure that you have downloaded and installed a current viewer. It's best to do it carefully, like this >>> http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/How-to-uninstall-and-reinstall-Second-Life/ta-p/1375231 Those instructions apply to any viewer, not simply to the Linden Lab V3 viewer.
  23. I don't have the faintest idea what it is, other than something involved in RP. You might ask in the Role Play forum.
  24. Simple. Three possibilities: If it's not your security orb, its owner evidently does not want you to stay there. It would be a good idea to leave within 30 seconds, as you were advised. The owner's desire trumps your "need" to be there. If the owner has invited you to enter and the security orb won't let you, you'll need to remind the owner to add your name to the orb's whitelist so that it recognizes you as a friend. Finally, if it is your security orb, all that you need to do is disarm it or take it back to inventory.
