    DNS Problem

Your viewer and SL's servers have temporarily lost the ability to talk to each other. Unless there's a problem with the servers (Always check http://status.secondlifegrid.net/ first), it's probably something on your end. So.... (1) Try shutting off your computer, unplugging the router and modem for a couple of minutes, and then plugging them back in and restarting. That simple step may clear up everything (2) Add Google's free public DNS servers to whatever your ISP assigns you as a default. Here's how >>> https://developers.google.com/speed/public-dns/docs/using (3) If things are STILL messed up, contact your ISP. Maybe they are working on their Internet connections. Mine go down for about 20 minutes once a month or so while they are vacuuming dust out of their servers, or whatever they do. You might also want to consult http://wiki.phoenixviewer.com/dns_fail for other possible solutions and for alternates to Google's DNS servers.

    log in url

If you are getting some sort of message that says it does not recognize a URL that you have given it, then you really are trying to enter from your browser. It IS possible to do that, but only after you have taught your browser how to recognize the peculiar format of URL ( a SLURL) that Second Life uses for that backdoor entry. HOWEVER .... SL is not a web-based program, so that is not the normal way to enter. You log in by clicking the Login button on your viewer's login page and the viewer connects you directly.
  3. Read http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Linden_Lab_Official:Clarification_of_policy_disallowing_ageplay The bottom line is that any landowner can set the rules any way s/he likes. A landowner doesn't have to explain access policy to anyone. So long as the landowner's policy itself doesn't violate the TOS -- by allowing gambling, for example, or by allowing nudity on a General sim -- anything goes. So, regardless of the fact that the TOS says it's OK for child avs to be on Adult sims, an individual landowner can say they aren't allowed on his/her sim.
  4. When you uninstalled and re-downloaded and re-installed, did you use a clean re-install procedure that removes all traces of the previous installation? If not, then the borked files that the crash logger is tripping over are still there causing you trouble. Here's the safe, clean way to re-install >>> http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/How-to-uninstall-and-reinstall-Second-Life/ta-p/1375231
  5. If you have a non-technical issue related to billing concerns, you can call the Linden Lab billing team at the following toll-free numbers: US/Canada: 800-294-1067 France: 0805-101-490 Germany: 0800-664-5510 Japan: 0066-33-132-830 Portugal: 800-814-450 Spain: 800-300-560 UK: 0800-048-4646 Brazil: 0800-762-1132 Long distance ( not free, but you can use Skype to save some cost ) : 703-286-6277 **Note: Support is offered only in English
  6. You ought to be able to log in to http://my.secondlife.com/wildcard and then select Settings >> Real World Profile Picture. You'll get a prompt to browse for a pic on your hard drive and then upload. If those options are not showing, see if it helps to clear your browser's cache and disable any ad blocker software. If even those don't work, try using a different web browser.
  7. Where do you see a small lock? On the object itself, or in your Edit tool, or .... ? Did you get any special instructions with the item? Are you sure that it's supposed to "open" and not do something else? If you want to provide extra information or need to clarify your question, click on the Options link in the upper right corner of your question and select EDIT. Please do not start a new thread. Doing that makes it hard for us to see what other people have already suggested, and it pushes other residents' questions off the page.
  8. UNchecking HTTP textures didn't work? That really does sound like your problem. How about some of the other suggested cures for HTTP texture issues?
  9. Read the answers above your post. They are both correct.
  10. Try integer cash = llRound (0.8 * RENT_RATE * (float)(expiration - llGetUnixTime())/604800.0);
  11. No. Here is what the Community Guidelines (at the top of this page, near your name) say .... Spamming, Solicitation and Advertising: Spamming is not allowed. This includes aggressive self-promotion. No advertising or promotion of specific Second Life merchants, Marketplace listings, products, or services, unless the forum area is specifically for the buying or selling of Second Life products or services, for example, a “for sale” or “wanted” forum. Do not reference other websites offering any product or service.Note: It is OK to have a signature line with a link to your Second Life profile or information about your Second Life business. You may create classified ads, list your in-world store in Search, rent space on billboards, pay for ads in various SL newspapers, send samples to selected bloggers for review, ..... and look for other tips here >>> http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/How-to-market-your-products/ta-p/700181
  12. 1. Open your inventory 2. Find the rug 3. Use your mouse to drag the rug from inventory and then (while holding down the left mouse button)... 4. Drop it on the floor. 5. Right click on the rug and select EDIT. 6. Use your mouse to move the rug by gently grabbing and pulling on the green and red arrows. You probably ought to read some basic information about your EDIT tool >>>> http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Build-Tools/ta-p/700039
  13. The easiest way to make sense of it, Steph, is to try it out. Say the header information in chat so you can see what it looks like, then compare it to the stuff in the script that Dora posted. You ought to be able to see what information is included in that header and then decide how much of it you might want to use for verification, as Qie suggested.
  14. No. The billing office is the only place to turn if you have a question abiout your account. We are all SL residents, like you, so we do not have any access to your account and have no special powers to "get someone moving." You said that your credit card is "fine", but it might be a good idea to run through this checklist of common problems: Here are some common reasons for credit card failure: You entered the credit card number incorrectly. You did not enter the billing address or entered it incorrectly. It should be the same address that appears on your bill. You did not enter the name on the card or entered differently from how it appears on the card. The credit card is not in the list of accepted payment methods (see http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Billing/ta-p/700037#Section_.3) You did not enter the CVV (3 digits on the back, or 4 digits on the front for AmEx) or entered it incorrectly. The card is expired, or the expiration date was entered incorrectly. There are no funds available on the credit card to validate it. We send a US$1.00 authorization to ensure that a credit card is valid. This is not a billing, but the card must have at least US$1.00 available on it to pass validation. Your monthly payment limit is reached, and/or your bank is not authorizing any more transactions. The issuing bank has not pre-approved transactions with Linden Research, Inc. Contact the issuing bank to resolve the problem. If you are outside the US, your card may not be set up for international/overseas transactions (this is very common with Visa Electron). A common cause of payment method failure is the use of unsupported card types. At this time, the majority of prepaid cards are not compatible with our system, even if they bear the VISA/AMEX/Mastercard logo. This includes cards purchased at retail stores, rechargeable credit cards, and bank-issued check cards. If none of the above applies, contact your credit card provider to determine the cause. You may also contact Linden Lab Billing Support.
  15. A script cannot run unless it is in an object that has been rezzed in world. If yours is still running, then you did not delete the object that contains it. If you are not wearing it, then you have dropped it nearby. You'll have to find it and delete it.
  16. Charisse Aura wrote:[ ... ] I also note my inventory wont load so there is definately an ongoing issue. [ ... ] I agree. Thank you for that extra bit of information. It's sounding as if your viewer may have been borked, so you have one or more damaged files. Clearing your cache manually (not with the Clear Cache button) might help with the inventory issue, but it may be easiest to do a clean reinstall of your viewer. Here's how to do it carefully >>> http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/How-to-uninstall-and-reinstall-Second-Life/ta-p/1375231 If you have been using wireless, don't.
  17. Are you using Local textures instead of uploading permanent textures and paying the L$10 upload fee, maybe? Local texures will only be visible to you, and they will vanish as you log out.
  18. The fact that all other avatars are gray to you suggests that you have a HTTP texture rendering issue. For the past couple of years, Linden Lab has been moving away from handling textures with UDP packets and toward using HTTP, which is generally faster and more reliable. It works very well for most people, but those with older computers can find that it has the opposite effect, especially if they are using wireless. Take a look at http://wiki.phoenixviewer.com/http_fetching_issues for things you can do to resolve the problem. BTW, you are quite right that doing a Character Test is a bandaid solution at best. It can sometimes bring temporary relief but it generally only masks the chronic problem you're having. It is exactly what it says, after all: a test. You should also know that the speed of a person's Internet connection is rarely a problem (unless they are using a dial-up). Reliability counts for a lot more. The most common connection issues we see are caused by a user's flaky equipment -- usually a router or cables -- or by the local Internet connection.
  19. 20. If you are not using a current version of the Linden Lab viewer or one of the Third Party viewers, upgrade now. Viewers that were in use before SSA was enabled are now at least partially non-functional. If you do NOT have a current viewer, all avatars will appear pasty and gray to you, so it is very important to upgrade now. For more information, watch this short Torley video >>> If you are using a current viewer and still see gray avatars, then you have one of the follow possible problems: 1. HTTP texture rendering issues. See http://wiki.phoenixviewer.com/http_fetching_issues 2. Avatar Imposters. This feature allows far-away avatars to be subtly rendered as two-dimensional gray images in order to improve your frame rate in crowded areas. You may have set the Max # of non-imposter avatars in Preferences >>> Graphics >> General too low. 3. Muting. When you mute an avatar, that avatar will appear gray to you. Chek your block list to be sure who's on it.

    estate manager

Less. After all the owner owns the estate; the manager works for it. The estate/region owner may specify up to 10 people who can manage the estate on their behalf. Only the owner can add/remove managers. Nobody can remove the owner. An Estate Manager is a land manager for a privately owned island, much like a landlord. Estate managers have control over settings for the entire island (sim) which they manage, and settings that they change occur on a global level, therefore affecting all parcels of land on that particular island. The specific powers that a manager has are determined by the owner. You can see a list of possible powers and a list of typical manager responsibilties at http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Estate_Manager
  22. Because you were just born this week. Purchase and sale limits change over your first month in SL, but they start low. You may request a review of your account to increase your limits. Please visit the support system and submit a ticket. Select Billing -> LindeX™ Billing and Trading Limits Review Request We'll review your request and get back to you within 5 business days. "Days" in the New Resident limits description below refers to days since first billing transaction with Linden Lab, not to days since you became a member of SL. Resident Monthly Limits New Residents Level 0 to 1 Days 2 to 7 Days 8 to 27 Days 1 2 Buy L$ US$30 US$100 US$300 US$2,500 US$10,000 Sell L$ US$0 US$0 US$300 US$2,500 US$5,000 Purchase US$250 US$500 US$1,300 US$5,000 US$10,000
  23. I've been here since 2007 and have never felt the need to jump, so I'm hardly the best person to give advice, but that "E" key should do the same thing as your PgUp key as long as you are in mouselook or have WASD enabled in Preferences >>> General. Is PgUp working for you or is it dead too? Do you have WASD enabled? If you want to provide extra information or need to clarify your question, click on the Options link in the upper right corner of your question and select EDIT. Please do not start a new thread. Doing that makes it hard for us to see what other people have already suggested, and it pushes other residents' questions off the page.
  24. Actually, you shouldn't have had to disable Norton. Just create an exception for your viewer's exe file in it. The instructions are here. Norton has a bad track record in SL. Their software is overly vigilant and very unforgiving. If you have their Anti-Virus, you should create an exception for your viedwer in it too. Here's the information on that. One of the big problems with Norton, in particular, is that by default it scans every downloaded file for viruses. That means every single texture that your viewer downloads to cache gets scanned, slowing down your experience like crazy. Once you create an exception, though, the problem goes away. You can toss the Phoenix viewer now. it is totally obsolete at this point. Their developers pulled the plug almost a year ago, and the introduction of SSA a couple of months ago finally did the rest of the job. You'll never see anything but pasty gray avatars with it.
