Well actually if you go to Messages (the envelope icon) and 'Inbox' and scroll to the bottom you can see 'Disable Messenger'. I would guess that would stop people from sending you messages?

And Now We Can See Who Our Stalkers Are
Treasure Ballinger replied to Perrie Juran's topic in General Discussion Forum
Ooh, haha, stalker = who looks at your profile. That's one of the 'notification alert' possibilities. That's funny, I don't actually care. Why do people care who's looking at their profile? (yes, serious question......) you don't actually have to put anything on your profile if you don't want anyone to see anything. -
Click that little bell looking icon, at the very top of the page near your name. that is 'Alerts'. That's where you say you do or don't want messages, emails, alerts, whatever, or how you want them.

Also have a join date of 2007, and this Forum date shows 2009...... not tripping tho, it's cool. So looks like you can reply to the 'topic' but not to the person individually, I don't see a reply button on each post...... (yeah, I'm bright like that) Ok! -

Hello; I got an IM from you in IM to email, a few days ago, just saying hello; I forgot about it and didn't respond. Is that why you were saying hi, because I often share that I am black in RL? *shrug* Well I am, but it doesn't mean anything in SL, lol There used to be a sim, looong time ago, that was owned and hosted by a group of black folks, black owned businesses and clubs and such but that's the only one I've ever known, and I think it's gone, no idea, and can't even remember the name. I'll look through my inventory, and see if I can find anything from that sim, in the past and let you know if I do. Cheers, enjoy your SL! People often IM me when they learn I am deaf, less often because I am black, lol.

Experience Tools
Treasure Ballinger replied to Treasure Ballinger's topic in General Discussion Forum
I said Experience Tools but it might be actually named Experience Keys. -
Does anyone have any experience, yet, with Experience Tools? (this might be better placed in Land Forum, I wasn't sure) Any positives or negatives? Thanks.

Marybeth, yes, in communities of the 'truly disabled', that is, disabled in RL, 'devotees' are often a problem; people who want to either pretend to have a RL disability, or want to be around people who really DO have a RL disability, it can be either a psychological or sexual attraction, who knows why people want what they want. I am deaf in RL, and i hear with the technology of cochlear implants, however, when I take off my external processors, I am completely deaf. I once ran across a Yahoo group called 'Deaf Wannabees', consisting of hearing people, who either pretended to have a hearing loss, by wearing hearing aids or other assistive equipment, or actually trying to physically damage their hearing, so they WOULD require equipment. To me, that's crazy time, but I realize these types of conditions exist, had to learn not to be judgmental.......... I'll avoid it like crazy if I know about it though. As for verifying credentials, as you know, SL Bar Association will indeed verify credentials if the attorney would like to do so, to be verified in SL. Then they can be referred to someone who needs help, in that person's RL jurisdiction. As for doctors and other RL professionals, seems impossible and also improbable to verify..........

Visit Virtual Ability's Health Info Island; and our 'Path of Support' for a myriad of SL based support groups, for just about anything. Although many SL residents are professionals in RL, in their various fields, the fact is that most of us aren't licensed to practice whatever it is we do, everywhere in the world, and thats a valid concern when it comes to plying one's RL trade in SL. Unless you're licensed to practice 'everywhere' you might want to rethink that, as most people you meet in SL are from somewhere else. Jurisdictional issues abound...... Peer support is fine but unless you're ready to provide verifiable RL credentials, probably best not to hang out that shingle in SL......

Dr Phil is in second life
Treasure Ballinger replied to CheriColette's topic in General Discussion Forum
A bunch of the Linden Moles made the avatar. I agree it does look very good. Dr. Phil was in SL to discuss a young man with a gaming addiction. The guy wasn't a SL resident, but SL was used as a platform, and of course, it was pointed out how SL can be helpful to those with disabilities, there's so much social interaction we can have here, that may be denied to us in the real world. It may have been valuable, in the moment, never any way to know who's been moved, helped, touched.. Outside of some media exposure, that isn't negative exposure, who knows if there will be lasting effects of Dr. Phil's appearance. I hope he had fun in SL. -
DaisyBlue Heffernan name missing?
Treasure Ballinger replied to Benson Gravois's topic in General Discussion Forum
She's gone from my list too, Benson. I guess LL did it, I certainly didn't. A true loss, on a personal, and a world level. Have you been to the memorial reading room we have for her, on Health Info Island? I can't get inworld right now, but IM Gentle Heron, tell her I sent you and she'll give you the LM to it, or you can just go over there and find it. It's a very comforting spot, and she would have just loved it. Sorry for your loss of DaisyBlue, she was special, in any life. -

In my years on SL, I'd never before sold a piece of mainland; when I was getting ready to, few months ago, for the first time, I came in here and asked exactly what to do. Qie Niangao gave me the exact instructions he gave here. All went perfectly and haven't been billed since, and I DID change my land holding to zero on the website. It works if you do it right.

((((JUMMMPPPPYYYYY!!!!!!)))) I'm so glad to see you! :matte-motes-big-grin: I de-noobified myself, live and learn, trial and error..... Back on 2007, you rezzed on Help Island, got your torch, and left, pretty much. My RL son told me about SL, but he was busy with his girl, his prim babies, etc so I pretty much learned on my own. Still here, look pretty good for my age!

Is there something wrong with me?
Treasure Ballinger replied to ZoeTick's topic in General Discussion Forum
Is possible he respects elders? Virtual Ability recently concluded a class for seniors, honestly, those were the coolest people ever. Normally, I am rather an isolationist in SL, but these folks, I enjoyed immensely. They caught on quickly to the tech stuff, and were the most interesting people ever, to just stand and chat with.
