And the worst thing is that you can't find a job here. With one salary in a house with two unemployed I had to turn to other sources of income.Well, i just thought that i can make something in SL, i have planty ideas...Seems to me I'll pass this game. (Bold lettering added by me.) Don't do that. For your own sake and possibly the rest of SL's. Each new prospective citizen is valuable, in my opinion. We don't know yet what each can contribute. Here we have someone who wants to work in SL, pay their own way, be productive and he's being ragged on and pushed away. Ivan, try the Wanted section here for jobs. SL is difficult at first but it is worth it. SL is also extremely vast. It can be a good hobby for you, some fun and relaxation, and maybe more some day, who knows? You can meet people from all over the world in SL. You can study languages, you can virtually do almost anything one can do in real life (and a lot that you can't) etc. Never let one person or one experience dissuade you from something you feel is right for you. Good luck.

  3. The "or if you have not read this" part always makes me tilt my head sideways. I mean...? All of the people in the world? You owe me a million dollars, whether you have read this or not. Yeah because, that's totally logical and legally binding. Mm-hmm.
  4. You're welcome! And to Maddy for "Suella." I knew I had her name slightly wrong but was muddled. I should've known better.
  5. Try contacting the event sponsor with questions. There should've been an avatar name. If not, right click the land and see who owns the land, nad ask them. Or right click something in the shop to see who owns it, as they are probably the shop owner. A bit like RL in the sense that there are various citizens of this virtual world and all are different and many play by their own rules. THere is no hard and fast answer to why you were (apparently) stood up.
  6. Nah. First, I don't blame teens. Sadly a lot of the trollers and/or griefers are well into their adult years. Second, this is not a new argument. Making people register has been talked about for years. It's basically putting the 'no free accounts' toothpaste back into the tube. It's too late. I don't believe in tarring everyone with one brush. Instead of punishing everyone, some of whom want alts for all sorts of good reasons, and who never have broken TOS, how about just punishing that person, when that person behaves badly. Even if they paid the fee or used someone's info to sign up for a more restricted account they could still misbehave, anyway. It's SL, not Utopia.
  7. I would just ask them to do it, with their own stuff. Simple solution is simple.
  8. Some morphs are okay if they wind up looking like photo realistic art - in other words, like an avatar. When it's an uneasy blend, mostly human ish, the Uncanny Valley effect comes into it.
  9. Butterpecanxx wrote: how do you add soneone to your house so they can drop n change close in ur home I don't see anything in the OP's post to indicate they are American? I haven't looked at their profile, though. To me 'dumbing down' has been going on world wide - same with other things always levied at Americans, like being unfit physically. JMO & YMMV.
  10. jwenting wrote: Sim owners can indeed be held liable for visitors violating the TOS. A friend of mine got ARd and ended up with an official warning that she'd be banned and her land confiscated if she did not stop child avatars having sexual encounters on her adult sims Another person I know actually got suspended when someone rezzed an A rated object (I believe some pr0n photos) on the roof of her Linden Home, made screenshots, and filed an AR against her. I instinctively thought things like this could happen. Sometimes people argued if asked not to have 'encounters' on my land (or my neighbor's land when someone had a house next door) or not to rez adult items (including the box itself, as often, the picture on front was porn), or use adult gestures or sounds (those things that cause the audio track of a porn film to play, for instance.) I'd be lectured at times for being a prude and whatever. But my land wasn't A land. At that time especially, minors could've conceivably been there (real ones, not child avs.) Wasn't taking any chances. Same with people plying their 'trade' of the oldest sort, trawling for cilents & so on. I had people rez sex beds in teh rooms at times. Thet's where the one person in a room policy came from. Lol Had to preemptively ban a child av who was continually showing up and/or leaving, in adult lingerie, and whose profile was absolutely filled with sex and rape groups. Sorry, no. Guests should understand not only is the person's tier money at stake, if their sim loses its reputation or becomes an unpleasant place for all others to be, but, the person can even face serious real life implications for some of this stuff, if they are perceived to be allowing it to go on. (These are just a few examples, of what can happen. Of course the people doing it don't know or care other than their own whims of the moment.) If sim owners seem strict at times, it's a necessity (if they have much sense.)
  11. What do you mean by "vacation place?" A 'game' people use while on vacation, including school breaks? Or a place people use in place of vacation, or to take a vacation with loved ones even while (geographically) far apart in real life? I think both are true. Second Life is free so I'm not sure what the dilemma is. If they dislike it, they can uninstall and not be worse for wear. SL only costs if you buy things (including a premium membership) or pay tier. Some of the total population are alts. That doesn't account for all of it, of course; but not all 400,000 are unique members. At least, by all available evidence. And by the way before someone says so - I honestly do not care one milligram's worth whether SL is called a game or a virtual world, a floor wax or a dessert topping. It is what you make of it.

  13. They both walked into a bar? They should have looked where they were going.
  14. What are you shopping for? Portable toilet? Beer hat? Fireworks? Edible trees? It would be nice to know something about you, as well. Are you a a) garden gnome b) pterodactyl c) fossil of a deciduous plant d) tree frog e) other Knowing who you are and what you are shopping for makes all the difference. I highly doubt they make beer hats in tree frog size, for instance.

  17. Thank you both. Much appreciated. It's mostly the interface in my case. Plus I have always and only used the official LL viewer and I hate to give that up. I like knowing who (sort of knowing at least) has my info, I like that they are the company, I like that they are bonded and insured or whatever, and won't close up shop tomorrow (compared to a newer viewer.) It's strange to me that some of the newer viewers are outstripping the Lab who should have more resources (right?)
  18. I think I still have a 'safe' sign on the beach. When I had busier land I had them there too. As I understood it, it's a sort of anti bullying thing. All avatars have always been welcome on any of my land open to the public, my only stipluation is 'cover your bits' obey SL TOS and be nice or at least civil to others. In the case of one sim I had other rules, from necessity. The safe signs were meant to make clear that any sort of -ism or harassment wasn't tolerated on my land. But originally they were meant to denote child-av friendly sims. As someone else pointed out, if you would have clicked the sign, you should have gotten a note card explaining the sign's purpose. I can't speak for what was in the specific land owner's mind who apparently had a safe sign next to sex toys.
  19. One sly way might be, if they got you to listen to music on their land, and then, post a you tube video that they own and ask you to click on it. then they ask if you did. then they can match up the two URLs.* Things like that. Which works a lot better if they are either a super haxxor or if you live in a teeny town somewhere - as opposed to NYC or L.A. or something like that. Then if others from NYC or L.A. visited on those days...lots harder. In general being smart about revealing any personal clues is a good way. I think a lot of hacking is more social engineering. People tend to like to talk, and a lot of people like to talk about their lives. I remember once in a chat room a person was harassing a member of our little 'group' and someone 'very talented' in that group somehow pulled up that person's web page and a lot else within a very short amount of time. Never saw that person in that chat room again... __ * ETA: This is a variation of something Desmond Shang said in the old forums. In his example, a person could ask another person to visit their website. Knowing when that happened, and then some social engineering ("I live in a small Oklahoma town" for instance) one then can narrow down the location, and with some other clues, find out more. In my (unrelated to SL) chat room example, all the person knew about the bully was their user name.
  20. If you want to create a group, it's been a while since I've done it, but basically you find the groups tab in your SL viewer. Click 'create group' and name the group. It has to have at least two avatars in the group or the group will go poof and take your $100 group starting fee with it. It takes a day or two for the group to go live, and then you can invite people to join it. Groups have dues, just a few Lindens every so often (someone fill in the details I am sketchy on if you would?) so if you make your own group, might wanna go through and assign roles and make sure of the reponsibilities each person has. If you don't want anyone else to pay dues, make sure that part is unchecked under their role's responsibilities. Then you would make your land, group land. You only have to set it to group. You don't have to deed it just for this. Then set the land rights so the group can build, or whatever. They will have to wear group tag while rezzing, unless you set your land so anyone can rez, which I do not recommend. They can also set home on the land while wearing group tag. They don't have to wear group tag to get in later, just to be in the group.
  21. Yes. I have been in SL with family and have watched them log out, but their avatar takes a few more minutes on my viewer, to disappear.
  22. No. I dislike the type of help I call "pointing." Most of us can use google. An exception might be if someone is completely new to a subject of interest and would not know which terms to google, or if they speak another language and are unclear of the spelling. I like details. I like people who've done it and can explain it in simple to follow language. Nothing wrong with good teaching. It's difficult to find sometimes, though. I do wish the OPs would return more often and say whether the people here helped them, or not. But I can understand why they don't.
  23. So, those who want to hang onto v1 until their fingers are ripped from its corpse...what do they do? And when?
