  1. I’d think that stores that are selling 99% club wear are successfully catering to the people who buy it else they would already be making other stuff? I don’t like most of it for myself either but I know sexy clothes sell well in SL to all kinds of people, maybe even letting us be a little more bold for our avatar clothes than our human ones and that’s OK. I also suspect it might be easier and quicker in some cases to rig most shorter tighter items than something that covers substantially more. Clothes are not too hard for me to find, I like many of the Lolita fashion brands and steampunk makers, lots of the Azul gowns, quite a few of the things from Coco, Ison, Rowne. ...but I’m also not going to go scolding a butcher because he doesn’t offer me a loaf of bread, better I go to the bakery. 😎
  2. Granted...but everything is in your least fave color and you discover that you aren’t at all happy with what’s actually currently in style! I wish I could sleep!
  3. It’s just the kind of ‘extra’ thing that’s not so expensive as to be considered completely out of reach like the $500 per year customized last name is for most average users, but just expensive and showy enough that I bet a decent amount of people will use it that way. Especially if LL ever runs a special on it. That in addition to the people who use it to get the ‘Resident’ off. Same way IMVU people get the ‘Guest_’ tag off. I wonder how LL will handle names in new account creation once last names are set up again? A bundle with a quarterly or 6 month premium prepaid subscription? ‘Resident’ last name still free but offer an option to purchase a last name from the current active list? Free last names once again for new signups because there’s no account conversion work to be done?
  4. I think some long term couples and family groups might choose to change to have the same name. RP clans too. Founding a named dynasty? It could happen.
  5. Granted, it is finished and sent...but you discover the embarrassing typos only after... I wish the laundry was done. I usually don’t mind doing it but this week, meh. I jus’ dun wanna.
  6. Granted but by your power and the wicked deed, now you are responsible for them until the end of their (or your) life and they are closely bound to you so they return each night from their misdeeds to put their clammy little hands upon you in supplication for their dinners and then demand a bedtime story. all of them. Forever. I wish I had a pistachio macaron.
  7. I like to think some things (like grouping people by a constrained list of surnames) were a sort of interesting social experiment. I was a member of a clan group for ‘Aeons’ shortly after I first joined. We had a few meets, did a pub crawl and some sight-seeing together but the group kind of fizzled.
  8. Another thing to consider with feature requests, I’m guessing the Lab wants to provide (if possible) the ones most requested that will also be practical to manage over the long term. I’m not sure why they removed the last names, but it’s clear that it has been an effort to restore them and that it’s a highly requested feature. But in the end, it’s optional and not at all necessary in any way to do it so I guess I’m not really sure why the price is such a point of contention. With nearly custom surnames being $500/year with a $500 setup fee, a $40 one time fee honestly doesn’t seem outrageous to change away from “Resident” or to leave behind a name you may have outgrown for one reason or another. A hobby forum I’m on (which has the larger international marketplace) allows no alts, no name changes and no second chance if caught breaking the terms. No joke.
  9. Bringing the topic back around, my industrious second cousin {redacted} Resident has been quite busy racking up well chosen submissions to the name contest. We...er SHE...will keep submitting them until they cut us off. She’s sure she can win one entry in a juried contest where they are going to pick 5. If she doesn’t...should I lend her the L$ to get a last name? Not sure yet. a longtime game I’ve played with all kinds of people is ‘That would make a good Second Life name’.
  10. It’s highly user dependent! All hobby spending is so subjective. My fiancé and I have often gone to the movies for Ghiblifest with my fashion club. it’s amazing to see them on the really big screen. We usually eat all together before, often some of us linger afterwards at a coffee shop or small bar discussing things over drinks...those movies tend to really bring out the feelings in people! We are dressed up, we take photos together and post them in the group as a memory album. We have been doing meets like this locally since 2009. It’s a really enjoyable time.
  11. I do not live in a big city. 3D movie tickets at an AMC chain theatre are a bit over $17 each, a large popcorn and 2 drinks is $20 so yes, it was $54 last time we went to the movies. Plus tax.
  12. Half of SL’s actual business model is built on the concept of micropayments in a micro currency adding up so I’d say you are correct but it isn’t new at all...and I’d also say they have been pretty successful with it so far.
  13. I would donate to the ‘change my name’ tip jar of a performer I like! I cringe when I see his old username! He’s got a really good case for name change! Game extras, perks, premium services are often expensive out of proportion to the perceived general benefit. If they don’t suit everyone, that’s fine. They weren’t meant to. LL is a private company providing a product/service so they can charge what they like, people aren’t required to opt in for this at all! Ditto for the upcoming higher subscriber level. I assume there will be similar discussion even though it’s totally optional. This is not new. VIP passes, extra perks, multiple tier levels, subscription add-ones...all of these are getting more common IRL everywhere, super-passes at conventions, multi-level VIP tickets at concerts, Golden Ticket experiences at events. I joined in 2008, I have my same first and last name on my main...oldbies don’t consider me an oldbie, but people several years newer don’t think I’m a noob so I guess I’m Gen X in SL too, how funny! kidding aside, I don’t ever balk at using someone’s chosen display name providing I can read it, and aside from just a few search and scripting issues, display names have been a pretty good alternative, so shouldn’t they keep working fine for people who (for whatever reason) don’t want to opt in for a name change?
  14. @animats don’t the really old (legit) fullperm business in a box have the fullperm texture templates? I could swear some did...
  15. There’s an inworld mud-wrestling game and plenty of strip scripts. just saying. Today I’m feeling better emotionally but very rotten physically, I’ve caught a nasty, gooey cold. Pizza might be my answer to many things today as well!
  16. Everyone’s brain works differently regarding the ‘easiest’ and or ‘best’ way. Sometimes best practices or prevailing wisdom helps, sometimes it complicates. If looking for a simple inworld solution, advice starting with downloading and learning outside programs might be like drinking from the firehose. It was for me. Glad later that I read about it...but way too much at the time when I just wanted my skirt to fit! ☺️ I took a standard ‘5 sizes’ ‘M’ shape, put my face numbers on it and that took care of most of my classic avatar fitmesh issues. Once in a while I need to adjust something for a wide range of motion dance or such. From what I read, much of the fitmesh Classic pieces are based on that shape. If it’s a Meli template (I know, not the best but lots of people use them), those slider numbers are given on her website. For people reluctant to adjust their shape, more measures are needed.
  17. For some people it’s just not going to be a good $40 value. For others it will be hallelujah and more jazz funerals for the soon to be shrinking ‘Resident’ clan. I can see some people wanting to change both first and last names because now the first name they smooshed together is going to feel weird with an added official last name Maybe the Lab will offer some kind of a price special or a first name last name combo change bundle at some point in the future. They also auctioned one custom first and last name at Fantasy Faire this year during the Linden Jail and Bail, maybe they will do one or more again. It raised a decent amount! Then there’s this... http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Linden_Lab_Official:Custom_Name_Program but if $40 ‘rustles your lindies’ then $500/year might just cause a conniption fit.
  18. I believe this thread belongs in the ‘Wanted’ section. @Desiree Moonwinder’s suggestion is a good option, I use Rez2. I don’t have a problem with people asking for sponsorship, land grants, etc. I’ve invited a few people to build interesting projects on our land sometimes, I’ve co-hosted a cooperative and I have also benefitted from generous land use donation and these arrangements can often really work well for everyone when the terms are right...but if I wanted to sponsor something like this (and I don’t, let’s be clear), I’d require (at minimum) a brief and coherent proposal detailing basic information like the size measurement, an LI count, script and physics usage on the land from the rides and attractions, recent visitor counts, the numbers and size of events from the last few months etc. @DYNASTY Clip your post(s) do just read like a too-long, too-spammed request for someone to give you more free land to do your own thing.
