Official Statement from Oberwolf Linden
JeromFranzic replied to Scylla Rhiadra's topic in General Discussion Forum
As someone who frequently TPs in Open Sim... I'd avoid Avatar Life. It seems to be another one of those hypergrids trying to emulate SL, and is somewhat shirking the open nature of Open Sim. At least it isn't trying to be as dictatorial like the Avitron HG, as far as I can tell. I don't like closed HGs masquerading to be open in Open Sim. That didn't go well. Ok, back to the thread... -

I want to meet Salvador Dali, and maybe his wife. He would probably drop a bunch of his techniques and ideas as tools to be unboxed... if selling them in SL doesn't work, he could always clone himself in several Open Sim hyper grids and do the dirty work there (presumably for free, but it's possible to sell stuff in OS).

It's fairly consistent for me, as long as I'm within 100 feet of my router. Within 100 feet, no difference between the wireless or Ethernet. If it's a bit further out than 100 feet, sure, there's some FPS drop but it's not too bad for me. I'm in an apartment ATM so I'm not more than 20-25 feet away from the router, no need for me to use a repeater.

Thanks for the details! I think I shall stay content as the somewhat cutesy thing I usually do in SL, with a side order of nudism. Not really interested in abusive RP, even if it's tongue in cheek. (By that standard BDSM seems more playful, I think... at least that act encourages some level of equity between anyone who performs it on either side.)

I've had very few issues using WiFi for SL. The only time I get into any trouble is if I'm more than 100 feet from the router at home, and the microwave in the kitchen happens to be running. Nothing else interferes with my WiFi at home. Never restarted mine for SL, either. If I do need to restart the router, it's for a hard reset after dealing with a bad firmware update.

Mini pc & ultra usage
JeromFranzic replied to DaDonMegaMrBell's topic in General Second Life Tech Discussion
Lots of multimedia gear needs extra power. If I was building a tower today, I'd want it to tackle DAW tasks, as well as graphical stuff... Definitely benefits from a more powerful PSU. Yes, the 5xxx series could be less power hungry, but I'd want the extra juice just in case. -
And your hardware (and to some extent IMV the OS used)... I'm still running a i7/1050 GPU based laptop from 2018. Manage to eke out a few extra fps in Linux vs Win11, due to slightly fewer OS resources needed to run things. Even with the latest hardware, you may experience lag in crowded places, and/or densely graphical sims. Switching shadows off speeds up things for most residents, which allows the hardware to run a bit cooler. My typical fps range is 15-60. Yup! I don't go past 60 fps, thanks to my 60 Hz screen @ 1080. Also keeps my laptop from exploding. 32 GB of DDR4 RAM @ 2666 MHz 2TB M.2 SSD... Can't imagine running SL with a spinny platter, forget that!
