I can't believe LL charges as much as they do in the first place. I can run an entire Neverwinter Nights 2 PW with just... humongous amounts of stuff to do from playing arcade roms to riding carnival rides, board and card games PLUS an entire full blown DnD world for the players to explore and level up, for 13 bucks a month and Linden Labs charges that much for a postage stamp.

When I was new I was told "take whatever character height you want to use, then add 20cm" if you wanna fit the general motif.

I wouldn't doubt for an instant that 10% of the population plays Minecraft. I'd have guessed 20 percent.

I have spent hours reading this thread. The people on the left.. all three of them... are debating, and trying desperately to educate, while continually re-examining their own beliefs. The people on the right are moving onto more whataboutism every time their last point is shot down by objective facts. Funny be that, says I.

I know, and it was halfway poking fun at the absurdity of claiming people get paid to live places in SL. Now for some off topic-ish banter! I do run such an RP place, and it does tend to sit empty for a few hours a day here and there. I find most of the people who stick around are Scandanordiwhoovian people and Japanese folks who like that they've found a place which is, as was explained to me, "Japanese enough to be comfortable" (even though I has not going for that vibe at all.. just making it look like a little tiny urban area) but isn't overloaded with the ridiculous living anime/Japan fetish a lot of places tend to be. Now that this is out of the way, I can tell you why my own place sits a ltitle empty. I thought originally a lot of places sit empty because the "landlords" are either never around or are overbearing, and I still find that to be true, but I've learned other reasons some of these places fail: 1) Going into it expecting to first build up a community and then start charging rent. Folks have told me they can kind of "sense" when that's what's going on 2) Skyboxes. Don't allow them, at all. Even if you have to cram housing in strange places (like on top of a McDonald's) you need to keep people near each other. 3) Too damned big! I used to hang out in a place modeled after Colorado and it was gorgeous! So many beautiful houses and little things to do, places to eat... and confusing to get anywhere. You had to drive a minimum of 15 minutes to go visit a friend... so it was easier just to teleport. You can't develop a community if people can't take leisurely strolls to stuff. 4) This one blew my mind: apparently a lot of free sims exist mainly as a way for dudes to try and develop a harem. I figured this one out because I noticed my land is almost entirely women and dudes don't stick around. I asked a guy why, and apparently I am "flaunting my wealth" with my whole slightly more than 1/4 sim. Paradoxically women stay on my land because I _don't_ try to bang them, but guys don't stick around because they think I am some sort of Mad Max tyrant. ...I just want people to play Cards Against Humanity with. I don't remember where I was going with this rant so I'll shut up now (PS: I provide free Mama-Allpa services as I RP Nick as a medic... and it blows my mind people charge money to do this! It's good fun RP!)

My tired as heck take on it, as I work my 22nd hour into other stuff? The (relatively) new guy CEO is pissed that Sansar failed no matter how much of the money SL made was thrown at it. Since it failed as everyone expected it seems like he's looking for a quick payday. It was a stupid idea, and it might bring down SL entirely. Due to what Nika said above my confidence is dashed again.

I just wanna say that is the absolute most beautiful head I have seen in SL so fart. Edit so FAR, damnit! It's funny though so I'll leave it.

We're done. As soon as a publicly traded company acquires anything, the death warrant has been signed. A publicly traded company requires infinite growth in a closed system which is impossible. It might be 6 months from now, it might (and is likely to be closer to six months) 16 years from now, but we are done here. Friggin' heck WHY are any of us even asking for that? I have a rig that can run Red Dead Redemption 2 full 64 person hacked servers multiplayer with the "always photo mode" patch at 70FPS... but with Second Life and Firestorm I twiddle my thumbs for 10 minutes entering Big Daddy's, for example, and stare at 5 frames per second. It's not my connection, either. I could run 10 instances of SL before making a tiny difference in ping. My experience isn't unique, either. I don't know what Linden Labs is doing wrong, but there is something being done SEVERELY wrong. There is absolutely nothing more important than fixing whatever the hell is wrong which causes this. The region crossing problems are likely related to _whatever the hell you're doing wrong_ for circa 2012 graphics to run like I'm logging in with a Commodore 64 when my rig can run.. well as above. You guys seriously need to pull all the tech dweebs in and make it so this doesn't run slower than Habitat (google it) when there's more than 10 people in a parcel. I'm 43 years old and am pretty much the young guy wherever I go, due to how it runs. We're people who remember BBS and so have patience but... there's gotta be fresh blood, and I don't mean brazilian ladyboy escorts. I love this place, I mean it's the best RP engine around but.. so help me I can't blame the kids for ADHDing off in a few days.

There's still a lot of the same regime left over that thought Sansar was a good idea. I doubt they pay anyone to stay online and make sure the grid actually works. That would make too much sense. Lay you odds they rely on the status page.

That's most likely what happened here. Unless you're listed in "Destinations", are a music/dance place with a good crowd, or hookers... you're probably not even making enough to cover half your tier anymore.

There are already many devices that allow this in SL.
