Member Title

  1. 2022, the year of the Starship! Early this year we will see the Starship from SpaceX take off. It will be one of the most powerful things you will ever see. Starship is bigger than the Saturn-5 rocket, and it can land. It will be able to carry 150 tons of cargo to the moon. It has several contracts already for commercial launches. Future launches will catch the returning booster rockets with a giant tower equipped with catch arms, so that they can launch again after only a few hours for refueling. This will get humans into space big time, if we are ever to go at all. So 2022 is the year in which we become a space-going species. Hold your helmet, it will go very fast. Join us at noon SLT on January 1st to discuss it. Bring your Kerbal friends. When: GeekSpeak is held every Saturday at 12:00 pm Pacific (SLT) Where: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Danmu/149/129/51
  2. I'm a British guy looking around SL for some good people who are into really deep discussion. If you're into book wormy stuff and book clubs even better. I want to set up some really good gatherings centred around debating topics too. I love nothing more than logging on and finding myself pondering something new with people. It gets addictive! So give me a hello in SL with "saw you seeking friends in the forum". My name in SL is Ishayu Resident. Looking forward to meeting you.
  3. Join us at The Fashion Loft Headquarters next Sunday, September 19 at 1 PM SLT, where we will talk about the "Blogger Blacklist". This will be a discussion on the recent feature that Blogotex added - the "Collective Blacklist". https://blogotex.com/blog/collective-blacklist What are the benefits of having such a feature? What would be the drawbacks? How do bloggers feel about the new blacklist feature? What reasons would a blogger have to take items and not blog them? Please contact Monica Querrien with any questions. LM: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Isle%20of%20Creation/160/26/21

  5. This continent will be different from the rest of continents. You could just tp to Infohubs and home, except this you have to walk or drive. At first that continent will be super-small to make sure its valuable and lively. Prims will be double. It will be growing in time after added more regions. Question is simple: Would you buy a parcel on the continent?
  6. Singers and Their Music With Freda Frostbite Wednesday, November 18⋅Noon SLT Description:Join us for this listening session and discussion. We focus each week on singers, the music created for them and the composers who write it. This week: Ella Fitzgerald Sings Cole Porter You will land in the Bellesmere transit/welcome center. Peease click the teleport pad on the floor and choose "Aviary" from the menu to reach your destination.
  7. Hey music fans! Under Stars with DJ NIKKI returns this week with another great themed music discussion night at House of Willuna. This week we are going to take a dive into the wide world of Jazz with a focus on Gypsy Jazz of the 30s, Dixieland and land somewhere in the realm of Be Bop. Always a fun night of good music, good friends and moderated discussion about the music and artists. A unique SL experience not to be missed. http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Lack Manor/158/39/34
  8. Tonight at Puddles we'll be talking about virtual pregnancy, family and how to chose a baby. Are you part of a Second Life family? How did you find each other? If you have virtual babies, how did you chose the one you have? Don't have a clue what the heck I'm talking about? Then join us tonight at 6 for a lively discussion of all things family in Second Life. Puddles hosts discussions on Tuesday and Friday nights. On Tuesdays we tackle a variety of subjects, but I can only guarantee we'll stick to the topic for the first hour, after that, who knows where it will lead us? Friday nights we meet for an open chat, where we've discussed everything from shady significant others to how to (really) make friends on the grid. Whether you're new to SL, experienced, returning or just stuck in a rut, we want to see you there! http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Erzulie/17/138/3495
  9. Under Stars is a weekly music event hosted by DJ NIKKI. Each week DJ NIKKI presents a themed playlist and invites discussion about the music and artists presented. Music is streamed and a moderated discussion is held over SL Voice. Think of it one part music appreciation with that funky arts teacher you had a crush on in junior high and two parts hanging out with great people and enjoying great music. Chill out with the tunes and join in the discussion every week. 6-8pm SLT every Wednesday http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Lack Manor/158/39/34 Under Stars with DJ NIKKI is a House of Willuna Event https://imgur.com/gallery/1gxlJjo
  10. Join us at Puddles Friday night to discuss... WHATEVER. We have weekly discussions with actual topics too. If you're tired of the laggy club scene, need a break from shopping or just want a quieter place to hang out and chat with friends, this is the place. http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Erzulie/17/138/3495
  11. Who here's got a wild side in SL? Lets show some love to the incredible content creators who have brought us these boundary-breaking feral avatars and the people who have made them their own! TWI, BRDMRT, Teegle, Grendel's, NutBusterz, Prehistorica, Medhue, iMonster...whichever brand you're repping, come and show off and tell the virtual world why you love being on four feet. [Or two. I'm not excluding birdfolk n such here! ] My personal main avatar is the European Dragon by iMonster aka Tithis String. It's a great enough av out of the box, but the 3rd-party aftermarket that's sprung up around it really makes it shine. You can turn it into any dragon, drake, or wyvern you can think of nowadays! The community that has grown around this avatar is also a total delight. There's no better fun than running and flying around in a gaggle of beautifully diverse dragons and roaring your head off! [Really helps blow off steam. ] [A slightly older photo of myself and my good friend unicorn.enchantment, who is sporting a wonderfully modded Teegle Horse avatar.] Dragons have long been my favorite creature despite their fictional nature, and ever since I was a kid I've wanted a video game that really let you play as one. None of the "dragon rider" or "dragon slayer" stuff that was so prevalent in games. I got started in SL for totally different reasons, but the moment I stumbled upon the Uthgolian Dragons by Grendel's Children I was hooked. Furry avs are cool enough, but what do mean I can be an animal in this game? What do you mean I can be a flippin' dragon?? That was it. I was on the Grid for good! [The classic Uthgolian Dragon, made by Flea Bussy of Grendel's Children all the way back in 2006!] I've been collecting feral avatars now since, well...since I joined SL, really! My inventory is full of critters. There's no greater joy for me than showing up in a more "usual" sim as a dragon, or horse, or wolf, or dinosaur and awing the facelights right off folks who didn't even know nonhuman avs were a thing. Soaring around Blake Sea roaring at passing planes and boats makes for a very amusing weekend. I'd be happy to show off more of my menagerie of avatars, but this isn't about me. It's about you! Tell me your animal avatar stories, people of the Grid!
  12. How are you feeling today? (you can come daily to blow off steam)😁👍🏻

  14. Hello, We are looking for a few individuals who use virtual babies to bring something to their SL lives. We are looking to record these interviews in-world as part of a series of videos that take an inside look at various SL activities. These interviews will be hosted and shot by YouTuber, Lexy Nexen. Interviews should take less than an hour to complete, and will be posted to Lexy's social media channels. If you think you possibly have an interesting story to tell and want to participate, please do the following: Leave us a comment below with the following, OR NC the following to Rhia Janick Name: General availability in SLT: Short summary about why you have virtual babies in SL(no more than a paragraph):
  15. So, I am someone who loves playing around with different looks on SL. I go above and beyond (at least in my book) to make my avatar look different and spectacular; whether it be (small amounts of) particles, a weird item, etc. I will always incorporate it into my outfit. (I have provided some photos as examples.) The reasoning for me doing this is because I recently came back to SL (just a few months ago) because I was bored and was looking for something to do. Then bam, it hit me...So now I am back on SL making weird outfits for inspiration of making art and other things. Now my questions are to any of you who reply or read this topic on here: If you do make your avatar custom to your appeal, what kind of things or items to you use to help with that? What are your favorite looks you've made? (Feel free to post photos! I'd love to see!!!) If you could make any look with any items provided on SL, what would you envision on that look to be? Do you like to show off those looks? (Personally I do, just for fun!) Feel free to discuss anything of avatar customization within this thread. I'd love to see some ideas flourish and photos if you have any cool, fashionable, weird, etc. looks you've made! Thanks for reading and I look forward to seeing some interesting replies. - Gill
  16. Ever since the tier allowance and price change I've gotten more mainland land and even managed to make my friend to leave his Linden home and got his own mainland land close to mine with the current much more appealing tier! I'm quite a land and house nerd so the past few weeks after the change has been really exciting to me, lots of things are changing and developing too throughout mainland. So what about upping the hype and appeal by connecting the continents? I like the continent I live in so much and it has its own unique things, but so many historic sites and point of interests are in Sansara (Govt Linden Mansion, Ivory Tower, NCI, Waterhead Welcome Area, etc) I know I'm in the minority but I think traversing from Jeogeot to Sansara and vice versa would be phenomenally exciting! Not to mention Sansara is connected to Heterocera already with even more amazing things there! Satori is already connected with Nautilus, has the black sea, and then it connects to Corsica. I just think it would somewhat increase the perceived value of owning a mainland land if all the continents are connected. (so people don't think, "if I live in X continent, then I'm missing out things in Y continent", even though you can still teleport to those continents, but still, having them physically connected just seems much more better) What do you guys think? I've counted it takes at least 30-ish sims to connect Northernmost Jeogeot with Southernmost Sansara, so maybe if we use openspace regions instead of normal ones as the channel it would be much more economical? Kinda think this has been suggested before, but couldn't be bothered to search, plus I want to resurface the idea anyway
  17. Willow Grove Art Center (WGAC) - a not for profit organization - will soon be opening its doors to an Art School and education center on December 1st, 2018. The expression and application of creative skill is the essence of Second Life. Along with it, we are also going to have Story Time for kids and a Book Reading Club for grownups with Open Mic Nights for everyone! The aim is to build a community for family-friendly roleplay and cater to different age groups from children to adults and everyone in between! WGAC is a place where people can come together to teach, hold talk shows on various topics like Building, Photography, Djing, Art, blogging, live performances, etc just like in real life. In Book Reading Club, the members can choose a book to either read, discuss or present one. During Open Mic Nights, people can sing songs, read poetry, crack jokes. The floor is yours! We are inviting all Second Life residents from different time zones and different languages to volunteer in these amazing community events. You can be a teacher, student, story time book reader for kids, book club facilitator, open mic facilitator or a participating member. All help is most welcome. We will provide class supplies, materials, and projects to enhance a more realistic and engaging roleplay. To Volunteer please fill in the form https://goo.gl/forms/aH7BUOdXItxvp1kA2 Welcome to Willow Grove Art Center. Let’s build a strong bond between communities.
  18. Just thought about this yesterday, why don't we have a separate "locker" inventory that doesn't get loaded up or indexed when we login? (which creates login delay, and inventory loading delay if you got many stuff in your inventory) so people don't have to "clean up" their inventory to reduce the lag, and possibly lose some important items (like one of my friends did) I mean we can kinda do that by backing up things inside objects / prims, but that takes away prims and is kinda an inefficient workaround I guess. What do you guys think?
  19. First and foremost this doesn't necessarily apply to only Millennials; It makes for excellent click bait does it not? I have been on second life for almost 6 years and have fallen in love with its community and the ability to make ideas come to reality for myself and others to enjoy. Renting has been troublesome and it can be hard to trust other land owners with maintaining the sim. I used to rent a full commercial sim during my first year of college. Talk about skipping a few meals :P, but to me it was well worth being able to express my creativity, but yes expensive to where the average college student couldn't even come close to covering those costs without selling his or her liver to the mafia. Now I am looking for a full region for myself in 2017; yet all I am looking at is a solid car payment monthly for virtual land. It raises a lot of questions as how much does it cost Linden Labs to support a virtual sim? I doubt it costs them a high fee a month to maintain the sim, so where does this $295 a month fee come from? I am 25 years old and not in a place in my life to spend a car payment on a virtual world. Is this why I'm hearing about creators and players leaving the world? Any information would be useful. I love second life but after finding out the land prices are this high, I want to know the end game here. Peace and love, Patrick.
  20. I think it would be useful for everyone and mainland land owners if there are map legends (icons) for upcoming / ongoing events that are posted on the events page. So when someone opens the world map, they can enable events legends and see which place has an upcoming / ongoing event. I'd say that would make more people use and utilize the events page, and boost the appeal of mainland even more too What do you guys think?
  21. The Town of Philomena's public library is hosting it's book club, Vintage Reader's, May 10 from 6PM SLT to 7 PM SLT. The current novel selection is Edna Ferber's Personality Plus. The Vintage Reader's Book Club holds a meeting once a month to discuss a text from the 1910s or earlier. If you enjoy books, tea, and good conversation then please do stop on by and join us. If you haven't been able to read or finish the book, that is fine. You are still heartily welcome. Location: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Myron/101/92/39 Information on the novel of choice this month: https://thetownofphilomena.wordpress.com/vintage-readers-book-club/
  22. Since people are more likely to stay if they meet people they can relate or comfortably talk with when they first joined, why don't we let users choose communities (or community) they consider to be a part of during registration, and then first-spawn them in a specific community gateway that's catering to that community? The social islands are great and they teach people the technical basics of SL pretty well, but after that the users are left with these portals (assuming they don't know how to properly search for a place yet) which lead to places that might not necessarily accommodate their specific interests. So since we have these community gateways and the community gateways program, why don't we let new users to first-spawn in these places if they opt to do so during registration? It might be better than first-spawning them in social islands where they might feel estranged (or even to some degree, harassed, or weirded out) by people they can't comfortably talk or hang with. Or maybe even put their age group in consideration? Let community gateway applicants choose the prominent age demographic of their community / places, and let that be another determining factor of where someone first spawned when they first joined. What do you guys think?
  23. I've been wondering for like 3 years now, why SL does not have a proper search function. What I mean by that, Is a search that will bring up a list of every public sim that exists. Instead, we have to know key words to find the sims as it is now. So, for example, I don't have a specific keyword in mind, how do I find new places? I don't. I've tried the " What's hot now" section and I've gotta say it, that section is a stagnant pond. It never changes. It's always some 80s DJ club, skill gaming gamble sim, or a nude beach. I just wish there was a way to see every sim in SL, in one big list, without having to know the keywords to find them. I feel trapped, stuck in the same cycle of sims that I know, because there's no way to search for new ones. And yeah, I've seen people suggest going to "events" because those are active, but to me, it's just like the " What's Hot Now" DJ club events, but in temporary form. And temporary gathering spots are disheartening, cause they move around or they only become active at a designated meeting time. Can't just save a landmark and go back at any time, like infohubs. Infohubs use to be a good spot to see activity 24-7 (Judge the quality of the activity yourselves) but I liked them. They seem less common, less active now days though. It would be nice if as soon as you open "Places" a list showed up. Without having to search for anything.
  24. Recently there was a thread regarding bible studies, which made me ponder what other beliefs and philosophies are represented in Second Life. Now, I've been part of the 'The Satanic Temple SL Branch' for quite a while, but it's been dead air for months. Does anyone know of any groups or communities that actively discuss LaVey's satanism, or philosophies in general? I've been an intrigued observer for some time, but living out in the middle of nowhere there is no local coven I could turn to for further information. If there are no such communities, are there any individuals who would be interested in creating one? I'm primarily interested in exploring the philosophies, and discussing them with other people who are equally interested; I'm also interested in discussing and exploring other philosophies such as Cynicism, Stoicism and Epicureanism. Not 'really' looking for practical deity-worshiping cults, but if there are such around I'd be intrigued to hear their views, too.
