    In the main graphics settings preferences tab there's a checkbox for custom, check it and you'll get more options. Make sure basic shaders and hardware skinning are checked.

    Put it on a second monitor and you don't have to switch focus to see it. It works fine that way.

    I don’t think Windows 7 is your problem, it’s the terrible graphics chip. It desperately needs to be replaced. It’s not like you need a monster video card to run SL, depending on what expansion your PC can take (slots and power supply connectors) you can get a decent one for SL for ten bucks, delivered.

    There’s a setting in graphics hardware preferences to enable vertex buffer objects. It should be unchecked on old AMD and ATI video cards. It can cause various weird problems with them.

    What are you looking at? Anything you're looking at for serious professional 3D work should be fine for SL.
