  1. You're new around here, aren't you?
  2. Love the print on the curtains, would you mind sharing where they are from?
  3. One post, two unrelated things. 12 days of Christmas gifts day 1 to 3 at Two Moon Gardens. Not sure if you need to be in the group (I'd expect so - the alt that picked them up is in the group). There's a group joiner nearby (free group). Also, I bought the Christmas platter ("holiday deli board") from Vespertine at Fameshed - it's pretty big. Here it is in the Teja kitchen from Trompe L'Oeil. As a bonus, I can confirm that the Teja kitchen fits nicely in Apple fall's Chelsea townhouse... In case anybody was wondering... 😁
  4. No stilts today, the grid has gone away The login stand awol, a symbol of the groan No stilts today, it seems a common plight But techies standing by, don't know the reason why How could they know just what this issue means? The end of my hopes, the end of all my dreams... To be sung to the tune of No Milk Today, by Herman's Hermit https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AuGWNshGM64
  5. Maybe the universe is trying to tell us something? 😉
  6. So on a whim I picked up the gifts at Fameshed, and I thought I'd show them here in case somebody might spot something they like... (I didn't think of checking the LI, sorry...) I think I got everything... Trompe L'oeil Mysa Modulus (this has poses, but I think it would make a cool seasonal coffee table, especially in the log homes) Hisa (there's a non sparkly version as well, but the sparkles on this are are quite muted, which I personally prefer) Heart - yeah, that came in a vendor, so I was lazy. It looks cool, though. Equal (the white fur trim blinks on and off) DRD Dahlia - sorry, the texture would not rez for me, and I got impatient... Dad Broken Arrows Brocante 220ML - I feel a bit peckish all of a sudden... [Con] - a very Marmite lamp, I think...
  7. Ooooh, it's a lovely spot! Thank you for spending the time to do this, and for sharing it! (The Windlight setting was a great match, too.)
  8. never mind - I tried to embed a picture of a cute item from the Happy Weekend sale, but it's not working. I'mm come back when I've figured how to do it.
  9. Oh, I know about Seraphim. It used to be a valuable resource. It stopped being a valuable resource (for me) when 1. they changed the format of the posts/gallery so that the pictures don't appear in my RSS reader (OK, that's a bit of a specific grievance... and I realise that from an advertising perspective, it makes good business sense for them to do that; I don't have to find it useful.) 2. and more importantly, alongside the event posts, they now publish numerous posts about some obcure store releasing some random item of clothing that I don't care about (about half the content sems to come from these now). If, like me, you're only interested in home and decor stuff, these posts are just noise. (Some events have their own blog, and I subscribe to those, but some events don't really have a blog as such. I subscribe to as many creators blogs/flickr streams as I can, but quite a few don't have either, which is their prerogative, of course.) And, personally, I still think it would be wonderful to have something that focuses on the home stuff within those events... so I think this thread will be great... 😀
  10. I've often wished that there was a blog that published all that's available accross the various events, but just for home and garden stuff (and related, eg landscaping). (There isn't, is there?) Maybe this thread can be a great substitute, especially if it includes pictures (if possible). Thanks for starting it @Trinity1776. ***checks her L$ balance at the end of the month**** ...wait...on second thought...😁
  11. Yeah, I do incorporate quite a few things, superficial as they are. My eyes in SL are always the same colour as in RL. Hair is similar, too - always mid length/ bob style. This is what makes me feels the most "me" both lives. Hair colour, on the other hand... in SL, it red, blonde, white, blue, purple, black...everything but my RL hair colour (brown, though I do dye my hair red). I'm a shortie (5'4") is real life, and I'm a shortie in SL. The way I dress in SL is not one million times removed from the way I dress, though I wear far more black in RL. Or sometimes it's how my younger self used to dress, or sometimes how I would dress in RL if practicalities didn't matter (hello, silver latex leggings). Only everything fits better. (Well, there's also the avi that walks around in evening gowns and diamonds. Plus sometimes I'm a pink flamingo. And sometimes I'm a tree; with a sexywalk animation, it's an absolute riot. And sometimes all I wear is a full body alpha mask. So there ends the parallel with RL...) Apart from that, my avis (there's more than one) are far nicer looking than the person behind them. They are how i wished I looked. Oh, and they are younger, though I could see myself getting a nice skin that correspond to my real age, if I can find one. Personality-wise, it's all me, though.
  12. I'm sure they are. Doesn't make it less icky to me (quite the opposite in fact). Each to their own. Sorry, you did ask for opinions.... 🤣
  13. Fair enough. I do think it's a complicated issue, and has a much bigger scope than this thread (even allowing for all the off-topic places this thread is going to), so I'm just going to leave it at that... 😀
  14. I actually think that it makes more sense for a man to create … let's call it pin up stuff. It's traditional red blooded male territory. It's fine, as far as I'm concerned. Not my cup of tea, but then it isn't supposed to be. It's a bit jarring in SL, because SL affords us so many other ways of representation, and most people in SL take full advantage of that, but hey, it adds to the diversity. The whole daddys girl angle, though - ugh, icky, and not so innocent in a way that has been excellently deconstructed in this thread.
  15. No, it would end in a scintillating tapestry of individuals. I very much agree with that… though sometimes, it feels like things haven't changed enough yet, and so it's a vicious circle. A narrow representation of sex based on female objectification is sold as "power" (and it does affords women a degree of "power") and so it perpetuates the idea in (some) women that it's all they need, so it gets reinforced.
  16. I've always thought that the idea behind talking about prostitution as a job like any other was to remove the moral judgement of prostitutes as "fallen women" and such like, which is obviously a good thing (the removal of the stigma, I mean). But I do think it has gone too far in the opposite direction - forget morality, it's a very dangerous job for a women. Also, pushing it a "just another job" means ignoring the bigger scope of why sometimes (often? always? I'm no expert), women become prostitutes: lack of other opportunities, poverty, sexual harassment ("might as well get paid for it"), stuff like that - those are bigger society issues that get swept under the carpet in the "prostitution is a job like any other job" framework. I agree prostitution should be legal, but I also think it's worth working on building a society where these issues - the reasons why some women turn to prostitution to make ends meet, or some of the reasons at least - are addressed. Women make up the workforce in far too many of the lowest paid jobs. (I'm aware it's more complicated than that, but I mention this because prostitution brings up far bigger issues than simple personal choice, as far as I can tell.) Yes, of course we're going off topic 😄 That never happens in these forums...🤣
  17. In retrospect, that's actually quite obvious... 😁
  18. I think all the above are very fair points …but I still get slightly (or sometimes more than slightly) annoyed about the way it seems that, to put it bluntly, it's always the women who take their clothes of. Sure, sexuality is a powerful force, and it shouldn't be denied and all that… but I'd feel happier about that discourse if there were more naked men around (it is better than it used to be, I'll admit). Why is it always the women getting their kit off? Yes, I'm sure they do it because it makes them feel powerful, but it feels terribly unbalanced. But then I come from an age and a culture where the naked female body was used to sell everything…cars, yoghurt, whatever. That's not an expression of female sexuality, and it definitely coloured my perception of sexualised female representation, whether done by a man or a woman. OK, all this didn't have much to do with the original intent of the thread, but I was drawn in by @Scylla Rhiadra thoughtful responses. (And I agree with @RowanMinx - creepy topic title.)
  19. I've just come back from a visit... it's lovely. I agree with @Elena Core, the underwater garden is my favourite. That guardian type thing at the entrance, though... he's a bit scary...😄
  20. Good to know - maybe I'm just unlucky (it's not just gachas, it's basically anything that's no copy - I just stay away...) And I only buy gacha items on the resale market, cos I'm cheap extremely mindful of good value (plus I want to know what I'm getting), so no trade ins for me, though I'll keep that option in mind if I get an original unoped box - thanks for pointing it out. If only Plaaka's gacha stuff wasn't so lovely... 😁 Yes, there's some great stuff in the store, but all the best stuff seems to go to their gachas. Ah well. PS Love that yellow washing machine, too, it works really well with the rest.
  21. LOVE that kitchen. Hate the fact it's a gacha - it makes it hard to find the pieces at an affordable price, and there's always the possibility of losing the piece (I've lost too many gacha pieces to mention, and it's incredibly annoying - hence why I'm not willing to pay up for a no copy gacha item). Oh well. Maybe I need to learn to buy my own.
  22. OK, I know this is an old thread, but reading it was such a wonderful trip down memory lane... I miss Ivalde and Artilleri big time, it was nice to see them mentioned. Does anybody remember Enkythings? the marketplace is nothing but...mushrooms?????...but they sold prim shoes, and I used to really like them. Dark Mouse had some lovely jewellery. K boots are still awesome. So is that Mr poet scarf. Buildings/ home decor: Kuro had/has some really nice stuff, but nothing new in a long time. And.. who else misses Y's House? I adored their builds, have a couple of them, wish I had bought them all. Technically the store is still around, but I haven't seen any new releases since forever. I wish I had bought THAT sofa (the one that appeared in a million Flickr pic) when I had the chance. And Node+, which dippeared fairly recently - some lovely (but expensive) houses. The whole region (Slow) was beautiful, so serene and peaceful. I miss it.
