  1. Thank you two so much. I need to do some more testing (there are a few things that are still wacky), but the upload included skin weights and correct movement.
  2. Thank you. I'll have a look at everything when I'm back home. Where in the file do I add the m and collision bones? I haven't been able to upload anything of my own creation with rigging (even a box). I do use the Linden and I do use the FBX converter.
  3. Here's the 50 cent tour. All the bones are there, and the object is rigged. When I export from Max, Animations and Deformations > Skin are checked. When I try to upload in SL, The Skin Weights box is greyed out. I did a forum search already, but it didn't help. Can someone please explain how to fix this? If possible, sooner than later, since I am trying to upload something for an even on Sunday (tomorrow), and it's taken me a few weeks to get this far. Thanks.
  4. Well, whatever it is, it'll be using current technology, so it should be an interesting project. Assuming it has anything to do with Second Life or a Second Life-like platform, I'd expect better performance and optimization, better integreation with modern asset creation tools, and an improved inface and controls. Anything beyond that is wishlisting, since we don't even know what this new project is, let alone can create opinions about it.
  5. How long are you waiting when you put something on. Even with items I frequently wear, I can sometimes wait 10 minutes for a full update, or I'll put something on and have to detach and reattach it a few times before it shows. I doubt it, but something else to think about... Is the item transparent, or are you sure it is what you think it is? I've worn items that are supposed to be rezzed and rezzed items that are supposed to be worn. And everyone, everywhere, all the time puts on boxed items that need to be rezzed first.
  6. I use a variety of freebie and cheap AOs, all mixed together, and I'm pretty happy with that. I'm one of those people that wants to be able to stand around for an hour and not see the same animation twice. I'm sure the quality goes up with some of the more expensive animations and AOs, but I've been pretty happy with what I've found so far. I'm never going to find the variety of customization in a single AO that I've been able to put together.
  7. No. Do you want to know why I won't buy you an avatar? I won't buy you an avatar because you aren't trying. You said you don't have a credit card. Fair enough. What country do you live in (you don't have to answer)? If it's Canada, the US, or parts of Europe, you can buy prepaid credit cards using cash or debit and should be able to buy funds using that. If that doesn't work, you can link your bank account to PayPal and transfer funds that way. We now live in a time when not having a credit card no longer limits your commerce options. There are ways to buy Linden if you spend more than a few seconds trying to find out how. And as other mentioned, there are games and contests you can take part in. Sure, it's slow and unpredictable, but it's free. You can also shoot for stores that have lucky chairs (I've been hanging out at a skin shop that has some). You can also join the groups of larger stores, since many seem to give out free gifts to their customers. There are also sale groups you can join, like Fifty Linden Fridays and Sixty Linden Weekends, that put up full price items at a major discount. Can everyone afford x thousands of Linden for whatever they want? Probably not. But can you get some funds and items for free or very cheap, enough that you can enjoy the game? Absolutely. You just just have to try.
  8. Yes. Scholar. I have a university degree in Japanese language and culture, spent 3 years in religious studies, practiced Buddhism in a temple, spent 7 years event planning for cultual groups, networked with employees at the Japanese Consulate and a community association, have traveled twice to Japan, and am an English language teacher. Yes, I am a Japanese cultural scholar. And do NOT use that racist **bleep** tone with me, because that is exactly what I am calling into question. As soon as someone says Japan, everyone assumes they are some Naruto loving virgin with no friends, and I have no gone and proven exactly why no one wants to talk with to the OP for having a Japanese name. It is because some people on the internet are petty, racist, elitist dicks who want nothing more than to crap oin other people for having interests.
  9. Unfortunately, you haven't addressed what I said. You mentioned that you live in Canada. Canada is a first world country. Unless you live in a log cabin on the top of a mountain (though the recent Lumbersexual movement would even call that into question), there is a way to solve every single problem and rebuttal you've put forward. I know what it's like to be dependant. I know what it's like to be out of work. I know what it's like to not have a paycheque or other income for months straight. But there are ways, in a first world country with ubiquitous internet and tech access, for you to either acquire the funds needed to play SL or resolve your issue with Paypal. But you simply aren't trying. You want everyone here to fix your problem for you instead of investing 10 minutes to find the solution yourself (and I know what this is like because I sometimes get upset and do the exact same thing). But we can't fix this for you. You said you live in Canada. Go to Staples or anywhere else that has a photocopier. They have scanning, printing, and email services your can use. The Kinko's near where I used to live (I can't remember their name now) have free scanners and computers you could use if you just asked. Walmart and any photolab can develop pictures from a disposable onto a CD. Pull up your Board of Education's website and email a computers teacher for help. I cannot even write all of the ways I can think of to help because there are too many. There is literally no reason why you cannot get this resolved in Canada. And it's almost comical how much effort you are expending into trying to get free money instead of just fixing the problem before you. Again, I'm sorry if I'm coming off as a jerk. But I could literally walk into any commercial building in the tiny hicktown I live in and get my ID photgraphed for Paypal, and the whole thing would take maybe an hour. I can pick up the phone and call almost 100 people (and I don't really know that many people here) or make a post on Facebook and get 100 more volunteers who could help; friends, family, old co-workers, friends of friends, etc. It would be awkward and it would be embarrassing, but I could get it done in very little time because people will help you. I have been so embarrassed and ashamed to ask for help, only to have almost everyone I know offer me ride or a warm meal with only a comment. There is simply no where in Canada you can be living (even the Lumbersexual's cabin, 'cause it probably have wifi and a powerful gaming PC) and under almost no ciurcumstance where such options would be closed to you. Heck, when I lived in Japan and knew no one and couldn't speak, I could probably have gotten this done inside a few weeks. You just have to try.
  10. I think I saw you ask about this in a group chat. Regardless, as Sassy mentioned, there is no magic fix or unknown secret. Getting free Linden is a horrible grind, and you need to provide some kind of service to generate any revenue. While you can do things like camp at sploders for 5 hours or play the traffic cone game, you are only going to get individual Linden for doing these; it's really only good for pocket change, like tipping at a club or buying a L5 item from the Marketplace. As for your situation, there absolutely has to be something you can do. Internet cafes have scanners. Even the most horrible of horrible phones has a camera. Failing that, you can get a scanner for less that $50 Canadian (not sure where you live, but $50 Canadian really isn't that much) and a cheap digital camera for even less. Heck, it's frowned upon and a terrible idea, but you could probably go to a cell phone provider and use one of their phones to take a picture. If none of this works, do you know anyone who has a camera or scanner you could use? What about your workplace? Or school, if you're a student. The answer is probably less, unless you live in a cave or in a country where such things simply do not exist. Even printshops will usually scan things for you, either for free or a small charge. And I just noticed that you can also pay with something called Skrill (no idea what that is, but it's a payment option). The point I'm trying to make is that there is always some kind of option, and unfortunately, it sounds like you aren't trying very hard to solve this.
  11. Being a Japanese cultural scholar, I have to think this has more to do with your behaviour or cultural prejudice that racism. If you don't say hi to people, they won't say hi to you. If you sit in your private skybox or closed off parcel and never venture out, you'll never meet people. I don't know if you're doing any of this, but I so hear people say that all they do is sit in their house and comment how bored they are. As for cultural prejudice, a LOT of people who are into Japanese culture are giant, horrible nerds (myself included), so anyone familiar with those subcultures may simply be avoiding you as a stiupid weeaboo, not wanting to tak about anime and panty machines. You can't really do anything about cultural prejudice (aside from turn it down if that's what's going on), but you can be more social. If you go to a club, say hi to people. Try and strike up conversations. Use emotes and gestures. If people see that you are being active, they may start talking to you.
  12. And then did you immediately change your appearance to hide the shame of teen angst?
  13. I haven't. Can you point me to their store?
  14. By host, do you mean someone to work the crowd and entertain people during shows? I unfortunately know less than nothing about DJing, but I could help with hosting and building a more social atmosphere.
  15. The only post-apoc one I'm really aware of is Wastelands, but I understand that it's super low tech. I understand that cyberpunk is really tough to find, and haven't had a great deal of luck.
  16. I'm playing something of a nerd kid. I'm always looking to meet other kids, but I do have a bunch of adult friends too. Drop me a line. HarrisonMcKenzie Resident.
  17. Hi! I'm pretty new too, but I've been picking things up quick. I can help you out with some things if you want. Drop me a line: HarrisonMcKenzie Resident.
  18. No, my Lego is a toy, and the company does have a boardgame line. You can also :play Lego" just like you can "play Second Life."
  19. I'm playing an SL-shape kid avatar (age 11, so no toddler stuff) and recent bought a really good pair of mesh feet. I just love the feat. but I can't find any socks that fit. Everything I find is scaled for adults, no modify, for specific mesh avatars, or system/texture socks. Can anyone point me in the right direction or wanna take the job? I've searched MP high and low and I'm not really having any luck.
  20. Does that mean that Minecraft isn't a game? It doesn't have a central goal, and you can go the entire time without fighting a monster. What about Star Wars Galaxies? It's also a sandbox virtual experience with almost an entirly user-content generated economy. Plus you can do whatever you want in it, from fighting monsters to dancing or being a doctor for a living.
  21. This has me thinking about a Free Comic Book Day sort of approach. You'd never be able to do a vendor wide sale or discount everything, but a X annual, planned marketing day to give away free quality items would go over quite well. I was fortunate to find some really good non-demo clothing items from a certain seller, and I now sing their name from the clouds. And that's really what events like Free Comic Book Day are about - getting people interested in your product. Now mix that with some performances and other events, and I think we'd have something really interesting.
  22. I'm just starting to explore content creation, and I wouldn't be opposed to looking into integrating Life HUD more. I am noticing a trend of lots of restrictions in things, and I'm approaching content creation more openly. That being said, I know very little about Life HUD, so ther's that.
  23. As others have noted, it's really an issue with what the user base is creating. I'm playing a 1.8m tall child avatar, and I've been in buildings where I can't see over the counter. If the default avatars are set to have human proportions, it's more likely that content creators will build to that scale. On a related note, having some built in proportion aids would be a god send. Creationg properly proportioned avatars is a nightmare, and I'm always seeing super tall people running around with baby T-Rex arms and other unnatural features. It should be noted that doing this does not mean that creativity will be stifled. If people want to play a 20 foot tale character, more power to them. Smae with those who want to use very small avatars. Defining real world-like proportions and scales doesn't mean that you cannot build or do anything you want; it just sets the baseline for those who want a more realistic experience for themselves.
