  1. Thanks, Perrie. :matte-motes-bashful-cute-2: I had to make the JIRA non public, since some of the tests may show my IP adress and I don't want to give some griefer the chance of trying anything. But I'll keep you posted here how it is going. For now, I'm just doing tests that Monty Linden is suggesting, and I got no conclusion from them so far, except it is not a viewer issue, which I already knew, since I tried 3 different viewers.
  2. Yep, you got quite a few points there, Perrie. LL has chosen to address that step by step. Maybe it is and maybe it isn't the the right way to handle it. Maybe what they need to do is shut down for a few months and retool. The thing is, Second Life is a business, and I don't think the Lab can afford shutting it down for a few months. Anyway, there are some developments in the JIRA. It seems the bake service isn't allowing us connecting to some parts of it. Per country? Per ISP? We'll see...
  3. I'm really not going to argue with you here. I'm not looking for arguments, either, Perrie, just letting people know — especially the Lab — how I feel about it. I've had my problems also, one of them was major. There was a tiny, tiny number of us who had the problem. And it got fixed. There seems to be a long history of "per user" issues, problems that affect only some people. Why does that happen? One of the Lab's mysteries... I looked at your Viewer log. I really don't know enough but I'm pretty sure the question is going to be, 'Why are you having so much trouble connecting to the Server?" It's possible the failure is with something LL did. Or the failure could be elsewhere. Yes, I saw that too, and I probably know much less than you do... So I'm not excluding anything. But, again, "per user" issues do happen when the right condtions of each one of them trigger whatever. Nevertheless, the present issue seems to affect some people in mainland Europe only, especially Portugal, as far as I know. One more thing, that may be related or not: since Christmas I've been experiencing inventory issues, and each time I unpack anything Firestorm starts fetching inventory and won't stop until I re-log. I'm sure you remember all those inventory database unscheduled maintenances from Christmas till a bit after New Year's celebrations. May mean something or nothing at all... But one thing is certain: the assets service isn't working well.
  4. It sounds like your ISP has changed the way it handles some data and that causes a problem that wasn't there before Sorry, Theresa, but you're just guessing like everyone else — me included. However, this is typical: the ISP says they didn't change anything, and SL Support told me to talk with my ISP. But SL is much more subjected to changes than any ISP. Also, I'm not sure it is a network problem, since all sculpties, mesh and its textures bake fine — most probably isn't, but I'm guessing again, which is all I can do. Yes, it is true that we must provide the sympthoms to get a cure, eventually. But I seriously doubt that it is possible to survive when the disease was induced by the doctors in the first place and they just keep experimenting things on you, not knowing exactly what they are doing. Anyway, the JIRA was filed. P.S. - But let me tell you a bit more how I feel about the JIRA... More than one year ago I filed a JIRA reporting a Pathfinding bug that was marked as duplicate and closed. Months later, the Lab announced it had been fixed, but it wasn't totally, or what they fixed was a different bug. Anyway, the bug I reported is still active, "eating" some regions' memory and causing the need to have them restarted almost on a daily basis, depending on what happens there. About one month ago, Support finally told me they are working on it. Once in a while I think that some people spend more time in the forums than they do inworld, actually trying to do anything there, since Second Life is always so flawless in their own words (no, I don't think this applies to you.)
  5. Really, Perrie? I can't see there anything else than the GSP saying there was an issue and that it was being investigated. At the time, I was about one month SL old, was more or less clueless and felt totally hopeless — I was ghosted for over a week. Still, I created an alt account, but it was ghosted too. I should have left SL right then, instead of believing it would get better and invest time and money in it. As I said, never read a single word that could be taken as admission of a mess-up, never an apology. About this baking issue, it seems obvious to me that if the Lab doesn't know about it is because they don't know what they are doing. And that's exactly what I feel most of the time: the Lab knows where they want to take SL, but just don't know exactly how to get there, so they keep experimenting. You bet I'm upset and discouraged. I'll file a JIRA when I have the time and patience for that. But know that it isn't right, either... I mean, I pay for all this and still I have to go doing part of the Lab's job, trying things to find out what is wrong. It is like going to the clinic that is killing you with wrong prescriptions and tell them what your sympthoms are so they keep experimenting until they kill you for good. There have been serious issues with the assets service (messed up databases or whatever) since Christmas. Has anything consistent been done about it? Not that I can tell. The issues persist and even get worse once in a while. I'm sick 'n tired, really.
  6. There seems to be somewhere a mess-up, but it's a bit too many mess-ups in a short time. This took away from me all the joy of Second Life. I remember that in the beginning of 2012 there were quite a lot of people ghosted. They were reported as being inworld but were not, hence they couldn't log in. I also remember that the Lab never admitted it was a mess-up, they just told people to keep trying to login repeatedly until they could actually get inworld. The Lab fixed it, somehow, but I never read a single word that could be taken as admission of a mess-up on their part. This whole issue starts to seem like that one, although the effect is different.
  7. I think I would use your option as a premium member to raise the issue with support I did, and was told to contact my ISP because it was a network issue. Didn't help at all... I think the rep didn't even read properly what I was telling him (on live chat.) Thanks again, Sara. Goodnight. :matte-motes-asleep:
  8. Thanks again, Perrie. I will file a JIRA and post the link here as you suggest, but not today — I'm tired.
  9. I will have to ask the only one who didn't bake for me where she is located That is not the issue. Other people can see me properly, but I only see them and myself grey (skin and system clothes, that is — all mesh is baked properly.)
  10. Ah, thanks, Perrie, that's an important bit of info, although not related with my problem.
  11. Despite not being a exactly tech, what you say makes sense to me. But if you have the time and patience to read a bit more of this thread, maybe you'll find something different. My issues began before the RC restarts on Wednesday. Being in Europe, I login the first time in a day at a very early PDT hour. I've been in many places since then, all types of regions, seen a lot of people, before and after all the restarts (Wednesday and Thursday) and the issue persists until this very moment. From what someone else wrote above, it seems to be expanding but affecting only people in Europe.
  12. Some additional info: earlier I went out flying in my helicopter and had no issues at all, except my grey face (the body was covered by a mesh suit.) Sim crossings went quite smoothly. I wonder if this baking issue will be expanding to all mainland Europe... Anyway, thanks for that info. :matte-motes-smile:
  13. Yes, Theresa is right, and probably she means I am that person from Portugal. Please read all that it is written at http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Second-Life-Server/SSA-messed-up/td-p/2740564 to check all that I tried so far. If you are in Portugal too, that may confirm some of my suspicions: that there is something wrong (a network) between the country and LL, no matter who your ISP is. This morning, I had an IM from a third person whom I believe is also in Portugal — just waiting for her to be inworld and talk about this mess.
  14. Yes, Sara, and I'm not 100% sure it is a network issue. The truth is that I've been experiencing inventory issues since Christmas, when LL started doing unscheduled inventory maintenances one after the other until a bit past New Year's celebrations. Some days OK, some others quite bad... Outfits not changing or having two of them on after a re-log, items failing to rez or not being taken back to inventory, you name it... What is going on seems to have the hallmark of a network problem, and LL restarting the whole grid may be related to this issue or not. I guess we'll never know. One thing I do know, though: if this persists for a whole month, I'll abandon my parcel (or sell it) and I will cancel my premium account — SL is not fun like it is for me right now.
  15. Just talked with my ISP's support and they didn't detect any problem on their side, nor on my side. [uPDATE] I did some more tests, but this time within my country (as always, these are average values.) http://www.fccn.pt/ ping: 25 ms download: 27.66 Mbps upload: 0.94 Mbps So, I guess the problem is ahead of my ISP, somewhere along the way between Portugal and LL.
  16. I know you did speed test...try a tracert...look for packet loss...isp maintenance... new antivirus? The trace shows some delays along the way. No packet loss reported by the viewer in the stats window. Will check with my ISP soon. Antivirus is always disabled when I'm logged in. I`ve had random disconnects on virgin media the last 3 weeks and Mr virginmedia techman brought me a new router today. As I previously wrote, I even skipped the router and connected the computer to the modem directly. But yes, I strongly suspect of network problems, just don't know on which side. If no one you know is seeing what you`re seeing , then has to be a connection problem somewhere. When I logged in, minutes ago, I had an IM from someone telling she's having the exact same problem. She's in Europe, too. I will try talking with her later, when she's inworld. Despite everything you people wrote here — thank you all — I insist on this point: everything, absolutely everything but system (layered) clothes loads fine. Mesh loads fine, and its textures as well. When I edit my shape or skin, and close the edit window without changing anything, I am back to normal, with all system clothes properly rezzed (once in a while I have to repeat the process a few times.) But, obviously, that works for me only, all other people look grey except for their attachments.
  17. I wonder... From the GSP: [Posted 3:43 PM PDT, 04 June 2014] We will be performing rolling maintenance for all regions on the main Second Life server channel and all RC channels at approximately 05:00 PM PDT tonight, 04 June 2014. Please refrain from rezzing no copy objects, making inworld L$ transactions and remember to save all builds. http://status.secondlifegrid.net/2014/06/04/post2285/
  18. Thanks, Sara. I'm in Europe too... not sure if that is good, though. Anyway, I never had anything like this in my two years and an half in SL.
  19. Thanks, Perrie, but it didn't. :matte-motes-sour: Next, I went even further: skipped the router and connected the computer directly to the modem... and the issue persists.
  20. Aaah, can be... Thanks, I'll try disabling HTTP textures, going to login again and try that. But wat is odd is that only system clothes/skins appear grey. As you can see in my picture above, textures on mesh items look fine, just like everything else.
  21. Yes, Perrie, as I wrote, I manually cleared cache for both Firestorm and Singularity. Additionally, I reset the modem, the router, restarted my computer and tried a fresh install of the official viewer. I'm using a hardwired connection, too, so that is not the problem. But I tried a speed test, and maybe there are some network bottlenecks somewhere... Here are the results I got (my preferred server, of course): http://softdallas.speedtest.net/ ping: 180 ms download speed: 17.13 Mbps upload speed: 0.99 Mbps http://tucson.speedtest.net/ ping: 196 ms download speed: 14.46 Mbps upload speed: 1 Mbps http://reston.speedtest.net/ ping: 296 ms download speed: 9.70 Mbps upload speed: 0.88 Mbps Will be going back inworld next and see how it goes now. Anyway, thank you for your suggestions.
  22. Ok, but you didn`t mention if you`ve tp`d to other sims and have the same problem. Oops, sorry, you're right, I forgot to mention that: yes, I TP'd to other sims and always the same problem, both RC sims and Main Server Channel. Also, as I wrote before, everyone using system clothes/skins looks grey.
  23. Yes, I know there were restarts for the RC channel. According to the GSP they are finished, and that picture was taken minutes ago at my Linden home (Main Server Channel.)
  24. Is the Server Side Appearance service messed up in some way? Since early this morning I only see grey people, including myself. But let me explain: mesh clothes load fine, buildings, furniture, landscapes, etc, all load fine — at a normal rate —, but system clothes and skins show grey. Doing a texture refresh doesn't work. Used both Firestorm and Singularity, after manually clearing their cache, but the result was the same — grey people all over. The frame rate is fine and my connection is super. Anyone else experiencing this issue? Any explanation for it? More: I just tried the official viewer and the result was the same. The image below shows how I see people — as I mentioned above all mesh items are ok. Alpha layers are not loaded, either.
