  1. Looking at the last series of replies in this thread, I'm happy to see more folks than just me are pushing back some against a forced way of living. 'In-theme' is definitely a thing, but, like you say, not everyone is as talented an interior decorator as someone else -- or even has the inclination to be. Extreme eyesores is something LL could perhaps look into on an individual basis; but, remember, 'derender' is your friend. EDIT: Oh, and I meant to add, I do like special skybox areas, though, We'll have an essentially empty region, water only (let's call it The Sea of Tranquility), with essentially just 1024m plots on it, and no building below 2,000m, and free boating for all. This means LL wouldn't have to populate any homes on there (= eating up prims), so these water-only, skybox parcels could perhaps even come with increased prim-allotment.
  2. ^^ Most assuredly! No one should feel guilty over just claiming what they essentially pay for: a perk that comes with premium membership. It's ultimately Linden's responsibility and job to meet demand for new homes (if that is something they want to do). But it's certainly not on residents to forego on getting their nice homes.
  3. I say it's entirely reasonable ppl are wanting to secure a spot first (without necessarily having the desire/time to start decorating immediately). Reserving judgement until, say, next month seems more useful -- if judgement is required at all, that is. It isn't really a totally black & white situation, either: it's not against the TOS to keep your pied-à-terre empty (if only to keep it as a retreat for region restarts and such) , nor a very nice thing to do, per se, to your neighbors. I just think we need to be careful not to dictate that 'People need to spend X amount of hours at location Y,' or be disqualified. Not suggesting you're doing that, of course; just saying that I can only hope new residents of Bellisseria will be mindful of the 'spirit' of togetherness that comes with these new home region(s). Beyond that, I don't think much more should be enforced.
  4. This, to me, really simply underlines the apparent need for 'skybox-only' spaces: a need LL could address, maybe!? Since the new region is so beautiful, with truly premium homes, usurping a plot there, just so you can use it for skybox purposes, does seem to be, if not outright against the TOS, then -- let's stay polite -- at least a bit of an inequitable use of the privilege of living there.
  5. Yeah, ideally I'd reroll too, until I got the perfect spot. But, realistically, once you get a home on the new region, one should hang on to it for dear life.
  6. I hear ya. But I don't think we should confuse the issues: you get no say over what house you're getting, regardless of what peeps are doing with their homes (aka, even had that nice corner home been vacant, there would still have been no guarantee you'd have gotten it; and, since getting a new home is a very lucky roll of the dice to begin with, rerolling, under the current scarcity, is out, which pretty much means you're guaranteed not to have gotten the home of your choice).
  7. In all fairness, the whole 'shared experience' thingy has always predominantly been about 'Everyone else seeing the same thing as you do' (in terns of windlight and stuffz), and not necessarily about sharing a sim with everyone else.
  8. It does raise the question, for me, though, can you still set your parcel (for the new homes) so no one from the outside can see you? I always loved that feature. They can cam in, but not actually see the avi's inside.
  9. This is the part where YMMV. Me, I already abandoned my old home, so I can immediately jump on a new one, the moment it becomes available. If I need to go inworld first, abandon the land from there, and only then try to grab it from the website, I'll already be 5,000 refresh-clickers behind in the process, LOL. It does mean you'll be without home for the duration, though. EDIT: Pray-tell, what manner of language did you use instead of 'show up'?! 😲 Cuz that's obviously not what you said; and I can't think of a sensored expletive that would otherwise fit, LOL.
  10. Friendly request to @Patch Linden Please, when the new homes arrive, add a new post to the update thread (instead of, say, updating the start-post), so I'll get a thread notification. Thx.
  11. You can simply prefill the name, and press 'Next'. Then you press your browser's back button (as you don't want an old home, of course). At that point, the filled-in name will survive a page-refresh. Also, do not be as blonde as I was, and abandon your new home (should you be lucky enough to get one), should it turn out the type's not to your liking. Unlike the old homes, namely (where you had to preselect a type), you can choose a type for it later. Refreshing seems to be moot at this point, though. Even if I should be able to get one after all, chances are it was abandoned for good reason (eye-sores in neighborhood?). I think I may be better off just waiting for the new batch.... which is a-coming, right, Linden?! 🤤 As always, YMMV, though.
  12. I agree. Higher demand than anticipated means LL really outdid themselves. This is something they can feel good about, and so can we... as they really outdid themselves.
  13. On that note, how many prims do you get on a land with those new homes? I've seen some homes that looked pretty heftily prim-occupied (ugh, I should have found a cleaner way to put that). Some of the furniture on the photos posted here I even recognize.
  14. Not to be too nitpicky, but 'they were a bit surprised at just how fast they went' is really just another way of saying they underestimated demand. (As anticipating demand is not just a matter of having enough of a supply, but also of estimating how many items will be requested per time unit). Anyway, completely unimportant, of course: I just need to fill the time awaiting the new homes (as refreshing doesn't seem to cut it any more).
  15. LL house prims have never counted towards your prim limit, far as I can remember (as their root-prim used to be on the Linden-owned portion of the region).
  16. LOL. So I abandoned it twice for no good reason at all?! LOL. Feeling mighty blonde now!
  17. I actually just got a traditional one. Had to abandon it, as it was just an inferior shed (so unlike many of the other homes I saw there). So, I kept tryng, and 5 minutes later, a new tradional home opened up. Lo and behold, it was the same inferior one! (Guess the next owner decided to abandon it immediately too). So, I guess this has become a pointless endeavor: the ones that open up now are just no good (which is why ppl leave them). ☹️
  18. Yes, I realized this myself: once you filled in the name, the field stays filled, even across a refresh.
  19. Oh, FFS, I was sooo close just now! A boathouse position opened up, I chose a name, then next, and then.. We're Sorry... The theme and house selection you have chosen is temporarily sold out. Please select another combination and then try again. Secondlife.com | My Account
  20. I'll take your word for it, as I'm not a resident there. Still, makes you wonder what made the houses derezz then. I do quite a bit of scripting myself. I'm nothing special, really, but I know enough to know that setting a texture on a face somewhere doesn't normally make your house derezz. Could be the 'style' box is in communication with the mailbox too? (To sync stuff, who knows). Anyway, it would appear the matter is solved. Which means, that by the time I land one of these new homes, all style issues will likely be gone.
  21. As a fave Captain of mine once said (not about his boathouse, but about his 'boat' nonetheless): "Try and look past what she is, and onto what she can be!" Kudos for making that a reality! In fact, looking at your supercute home, I think I don't even want a boathouse anymore, LOL. (Insert gratuitous "I'll have what she's having!" here)
  22. I'm very impressed by those pictures! And, fair is fair, a wee jelly. 😛
  23. Based on Patch Linden's comment that they were "overwhelmed at the positive response to the new models and at the rapid speed with which they were acquired," I'd say it's fair to say they underestimated demand a little. Their own response to the high demand has been equally fast, though, so it's all good.
