  1. I asume that buying clothes is not a problem? I think it is harder to dress nice when you are stuck with just free items (though not impossible). I echo some of the designers that have been mentioned. ColdLogic, Jane (which has a great freeebie mesh dress), Izzies, Maitreya to name a few. If you are looking to find some nice outfits for less I would check out the Collabor88 sale event that happens each month. You can find some awesome clothes for about 88L each. --sean
  2. Love it. I saw all the stuff up on MP. I was wondering if the new work boots will fit over the mesh legs & feet. I love my muddy feet, but maybe sometimes shoes would be a good thing.
  3. A lot do yes. Though I am pretty sure most wear it instead of rather than under. : )
  4. I am interested in purchasing a new region for my estate. The region would need to meet the following requirements: 1. It must be empty, and ready for terraforming. 2. It needs to be fully transfered to me so it can be moved and renamed. I will negotiate on price but in general I am looking to pay you 100 (to cover the transfer fee), $10 US per day remaining on paid tier (from the day we submit the tickets), plus a negoiated amount so you take a little something away from the deal. I am not going to set an amount here we can talk about it offline, but I am looking to provide a quick sale option for someone that needs to sell rather than return the region to LL. If you have a region you would be interested in selling please IM me in world or reply here. thanks Seanabrady Resident
  5. I might be interested in teh region if it is still available. Let me know. I will try you in world as well. --- seanabrady Resident
  6. Feel free to give me a shout in world if you want. I can introduce you to flying and/or sailing in SL. I own a coffee shop if you are looking for a place to chill and chat with friends, and do occasionally get out to live music events. : )
  7. Do you mean spending. 300L per week or 300L total? If all you have to spend now and always is 300 then look for one of the small sky boxes. You can sometimes find them for 50L per week.
  8. Feel free to look me up in world as well Purple. I am happy to help with anything. Welcome to Second Life.
  9. Feel free to look me up in world, seanabrady resident. I mostly hang out at coffee shops and just chill. Love helping new people get used to second life.
  10. I see infohub symbols all over, but if I am in my Map and uncheck the Infohub check box those symbols do not go away. Usually this is because those are not infohubs but rather just an infohub symbl rezzed above the parcel to make it look like an infohub on the map. TO the best of my knowledge only Linden owned land can be a true infohub. If you own a private region you need a group with the set home here permission in it for people to set home on the region/parcel. Sean
  11. I have a nice little roadside parcel on the Heterocera Atoll I want to get rid of. Selling it for a little less than L$1 per m2. 2384 m2 545 Prims L$ 2100 (L$0.9/m2) http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Trumbull/240/160/76
  12. I agree in some parts with both the previous posters. If you are going into the land business you have to do it because you want to do it for fun. You won't make money at it, but I disagree that you cannot break even. My suggestions are: 1: Have a theme. If you are just going to divide the region up into a bunch of beachy/tropical sand blocks you will have a lot of competion. 2: Understand how you get money in and out of second life. LL is going ot charge you in real dollars (or whatever currancy) when they charge you for your region. Most likely though, people will pay you in Lindens. You will need to convert those Lindens to cash to pay tier. LL charges a 3.5% fee on those transactions. Take that into account when you are pricing. 3: Understand lag and how it happens. If you have a really laggy region, people will not live there. Learn about things that cause leg, how to measure it, and what you can do to combat it. I will say that combining residential regions with event regions doesnt work. Events are laggy, and your residents wont like it. 4: Run the numbers, price the region right: Figure out how many prims you are going to hold back for public areas. Figure out how many you will rent and then start figuring out what you can charge per prim. Prices vary from 1.30's to over 2.00 per prim on private regions. If you are selling all 15,000 prims you can charge less and still break even...but your region wont have much theme. 5: DOnt buy your region from LL. There are lots of regions for sale and you can usually get one for about $300. Far less than the $1000 LL charges. You can break even in land rentals if you have the right product at the right price with the right customer service. My region is full, with a waiting list. --sean
  13. Thanks to all the responses thus far. A new, follow up question though. If you were looking for a place to live in Second Life and saw that the estate did not ban child avatars, in fact stated specifically in the covenant that they (along with lots of other avatar types that do get banned) were welcome, would it make you less likely to buy/rent land in that region?
  14. It is paces like Bay City in fact that made me think to post this. I am pretty much 100% in agreement with what you are saying here. Obviously there are places where its not appropriate, but in general banning make little sense and only serves to cut off a part of the population from your region needlessly.
  15. Czari thanks. That is exactly the historical perspective I was looking for.
  16. Most regions, including the my current region, restrict access from child avatars. I understand that many people don't like the idea of child avatars in Second Life. What I am wondering is, have there been issues for estate owners/managers in the past that lead to child avatars being restricted? I have been looking at the terms of service for Second Life and thinking about the structure of covenants and I don't see any liability issue. I looked around a bit and I can't find anything other than a general dislike of child avatars that leads to so many covenants excluding them from residential properties. Anyone care to weigh in on the question? I am really more interested in thoughts on reasons why it might be bad to include them than opinions on child avatars themseleves. thanks. sean
  17. I am looking for someone to assist me in fleshing out a brand graphically. I have a current limited brand that I would like to extend into the estate ownership business. The work will include modifying an existing logo to meet the broader brand, and the creation of about 6 - 10 different graphics for different purposes. I am looking for people that a) have experience working with brand creation and marketing in Second Life (or other virtual worlds), and b) have a portfolio of work I can review (specifically examples of brands/logos you have worked with in the past). If you think you fit the bill please contact me by reply here or in world via IM or Notecard to seanabrady Resident. Thanks
  18. I love the more realistic natural looking areas of Second Life as well. I try to visit them when I can, and I try to make my region(s) as realistic as possible. Certainly, it is a good idea to experiment with creating your own custom windlight settings. I try to keep settings around for all different types of times. If you are in a region where the windlight is to your liking ask the region owner if you can get a copy. I think all of the v3 based veiwers allow you to copy the windlight XML files from one machine to another.
  19. I would assume that if a scripted object is creating these notecards that it is something you are wearing, or maybe rezzed in world. Just sitting in your inventory wouldn't do it. Check to see if you are wearing an attachment that you don't normally wear would be my suggestion. sean
  20. The autumn colors are out in Effington Estates and we have three parcels available for immediate move in. Effington Estates is a quiet residential community situtated in the Effington Woods. Autumn is a perfect time to join the community and watch as the explodes with color. Stop by and take a look. Available Parcels - http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Effington%20Wood/115/109/24 D31 - Water on two sides of this parcel. 380 prims for 638 L$/week B42 - Waterfront Parcel 439 prims for 738 L$/week B44 - 2xs Waterfront 439 prims for 738 L$/week (Picture shows both open parcels side by side)
  21. Part of the parcel sold! I Lowered the price on this still amazing waterfront and road side parcel. I have decided to sell off one of my mainland parcels. This is an amazing spot on the south side of the Heterocera atoll. The parcel is protected on three sides by roads and protected linden water ways. The region is right next to an open water region which is great for boating. This is a big parcel, and I would like to get rid of it all in one piece, but I will consider dividing it into two (but not smaller). Take a look here: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Cristat/156/78/31 Size: 15504m2 Prims: 3548 Asking Price: 14,000 L$ or Best Offer!
  22. My region has been optimized, to some extent. But it is residential, so prims change all the time. So in theory, when the region runs out of spare time the physics time should reduce automagically to allow for more free time....correct? This is how I understand it from Nalates blog and other places.
  23. I am noticing that with the LL Beta viewer (and most recetn Dolphin and Exodus) that if I leave my graphics set on high my bandwidth in the stats floater is what I would call normal. However, if I swap to Ultra it pegs up to the 1800 - 2500 kbps range and stays there. This happens even in an empty region on a skyplatform at 1800m. I have let it sit for about 6 minutes and the bandwidth never drops, until you switch off of Ultra and it is back down to "normal" again. Anyone else seeing this? Has it always been this way or is this something new? --sean
  24. I typically only show display names. My thinking is a) people who prefer to not bother with a display name jsut show there user name instead automatically and b) people who do bother to change their dispaly name liekly dont mind being called by that name as thats something they chose. I also set my viewer to change the floater color when the display name/user name differ so I have a cue when they are different. I for one wouldnt want to always see both, less is more when all the floaters anyway, IMHO. --sean
