  1. Welcome to Second Life Forums, jvhs This to me sounds like a connection issue. Reset your modem, and see if that does anything to help. Other responses will follow.
  2. I'm as confused as the Phoenix/Firestorm people about the "degraded performance" message. I use mainly Phoenix viewer, but sometimes log in with Firestorm, and occasionally with Viewer 3. It is understably very frustrating when this kind of thing happens, though. Regarding the issue of being a cloud; what will fix one person, will not necessarily fix another, and that can be very frustrating too (as you will probably have noticed by all the threads that come up on these forums about this particular issue). My own personal experience is that, because I have a problematic internet connection, which I share with many other people, I am often a cloud, so I tend to skip right to a character test (which some people highly criticise me for). I am just not prepared to waste the first fifteen minutes of every session I log into Second Life finding out which of the fixes will work for me, so it is easier for me to character test. And I usually use Furball sim. So, what I recommend for you is a break from Second Life for a week or two to recharge your batteries, and when you come back, don't fear the frustrations, just take a-charge, assume you will be a cloud, log into Furball (on whichever viewer you choose), and do the character test thing. If (and I mean if) you find your avatar refuses to load, or your inventory does not load fully, then it is appropriate to clear your cache and do a relog and go make a coffee while it all loads. At this moment in time, that must sound so very annoying to you. This time will pass. You've been in SL long enough to know this.
  3. Good stuff. :smileyvery-happy: Thanks for letting us know your issue got fixed.

  5. NurLaila, you are a delight to help. I hope you'll be a real regular on these forums. With all our tupperware, we could save the world /me gives Luc a gentle shove - you are a naughty boy (but I like you!) :matte-motes-evil-invert::matte-motes-big-grin-wink:
  6. Hi, Valen Yes, indeed, this issue does also seem to happen if you change viewers, swap around different viewers, or have a sudden interruption in your internet connection. Sometimes just waiting will make the avatar appear. Other times flying upwards, or changing group tag, or sliding a bald base across to your avatar will force it to load. Or a simple rebake will. I think in the case of the OP, a character test may refresh their avatar fully, but certainly it is useful to have a look at the advice given by the Phoenix developers on bake fails http://wiki.phoenixviewer.com/bake_fail .
  7. Welcome back to Second Life, Tex It sounds like you need to carry out a "character test" In V1 coded viewers, this is in the Advanced Menu at the top of your screen. Character Test>>Test male/female. (Might be in Me or Develop menu in V2/V3 viewers) This will take your avatar appearance back to a newbie-looking/library avatar, but you should then be able to find your favourite shape, skin, clothing, hair, HUDs in your inventory and get looking back to normal in a few short minutes.
  8. Welcome to Second Life Answers, Samira It sounds like it may just be a little glitch in the system; sometimes the true online/offline status does not show up. Also, please know that people can be offline, but reply to IMs from their email for a day or two after they arrive in their inbox. Edited to add: If you had been blocked/muted, you would become unblocked/unmuted the moment that person sent you a new IM. It therefore does not look to me like you have been blocked/muted.
  9. Welcome to Second Life Answers, venture7 When you take the photo inworld, look at the preview of it in the small window that comes up on your screen. Does it look ok then? I am thinking it might be your email provider having a little glitch currently. Try sending emails out to a different email address (you can easily set up a spare one via an alternative service - ie gmail if you currently use yahoo). Also try using Mozilla Firefox if you currently use Internet Explorer. And check your graphics card drivers are up-to-date too.
  10. You're more than welcome I'm glad Luc's come in on this one; especially as you're both on Mac's. I'm off to seal myself in Tupperware for a couple of hours, see if I can stop the ageing process some more
  11. "I can't go back in time lol" I LOL'd at that too. In some respects it would be good to be able to go back to when our computers were shiny and new, with our lovely virgin graphics cards. Alas, we cannot :matte-motes-frown: I think you may have answered your own question; your computer is struggling with mesh by the sound of it, but you can tweak some of the settings, turn off shadows and shading, see if that helps. There will be some more responses to follow, more practical than mine - I just really wanted to empathise. :matte-motes-smile:
  12. Welcome to Second Life Answers, Chloe It sounds like your home region might be offline/down. Please contact Linden Lab support, via the "help" option at the top of this screen and let them know.
  13. Hello again, DUBANT. Enjoy flying around the grid, and don't worry too much. It's never going to be like flying in real life, and I think you'll understand, over time, why your idea wouldn't really work in Second Life.
  14. Maelstrom Janus wrote: GOT TO LOVE A GUY LIKE LEGION WHO INSULTS USERS AND THEN EXPECTS 'RESPECTFUL RESPONSES' Deep breath, Maelstrom... .... and now let it go.
  15. See, while I agree with you, you should have just muttered that under your breath out in RL. When you aim a personal remark at someone, it makes you look bad, and can get you warned/banned, and as much as you're cheesed off (and you are entitled to be), don't stoop to the level of the idiot. Ceka, I'm with you - a bit of warning by those in the know (in this case LL) should have been forthcoming. Alicia - I also report the nazi stuff when I see it, and traffic bots.(Good to have hobbies :matte-motes-wink-tongue: )
  16. Just go steady, Maelstrom, or you'll do yourself more harm than good. You're right to make people aware, and people are also allowed their opinion. My own feeling is that the sh1t will hit the fan when they get their bills for broadband next time, or get a cap notification from their ISP. You've done what you can to warn people, Maelstrom, and I've informed as many people as I know, and suggest others do that too, so we can all take some damage limitation. Let's not turn this thread into yet another vehicle for sniping at each other. It's not at all constructive and will only end up with another thread being removed, and possible bans.
  17. Welcome to Second Life Answers, TallLisa Normally when you get kicked from a sim, there is at least some warning from maybe a security device that is in place. Reasons are generally (a) lack of age; (b) lack of height © not being in the right group; (d) loitering at an entrance point instead of moving away. Being logged off, though, after some security device has kicked you, is usually a sign that your internet connection is weak. (Are you on a wireless connection?). Check your chatlogs (do you save these to your hard drive? If so, you will be able to see what has kicked you and the reason why). Look on your hard drive for where your Second Life folders are kept. If you wish to add more to this thread, you can do so by clicking on "options" at the top right hand corner of your original post and "edit", or you can respond to each individual reply by clicking on the "permalink" at the bottom left hand corner of it.
  18. Welcome to Second Life Answers, DUBANT Unlike real life, there is no Air Traffic Control system in Second Life, and I think it is inevitable to fly into some problems, unless you own your own cluster of sims and ensure there are no security orbs in the sky (although passing over sim borders can still be a problem). If you are intending to fly over mainland regions, you do not need to have permission, although it is wise to fly above the official building height limit, which is also the height at which ban lines cease to exist, 4096m. There may be airports in world where you can speak with others about this; they will be able to offer you further advice and some good tips on how to get the best flights in Second Life. When you are next logged into Second Life, please search for keywords such as "airport", "aerodrome", "flying", "flight". Good luck to you.
  19. Depending on speed of connection, and type of system set-up you have, rezzing on mesh-enabled viewers such as Firestorm and V3 can be slow. You can go into Preferences and try turning off shadows and shading, tweak the graphics setting, see if it's faster if you set the draw distance lower. Other suggestions will follow.
  20. Greetings, Sasori It is a very common problem, and rarely is anything actually lost forever. It's somewhere on a server, waiting to be scooped up, so do have a read of this link from the official Second Life Wiki http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Inventory_loss
  21. Both my RL face and my SL face are set into permanent frowns. My SL face has less lines though ;-))
  22. Hello NJMike Have you tried logging into a different sim, such as Furball or Quarrel? Have you tried with a different viewer other than with Singularity? It might also have something to do with you being on a wireless connection. Other responses will follow.
  23. What happens when your wife slides a different outfit across to her avatar from her inventory?
