  1. Greetings, Talisia Someone has a similar problem to yours over on this other thread perhaps? http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Second-Life-Viewer/Major-SL-Issue-unexplained-crash-during-login/m-p/1647109
  2. Welcome to Second Life Answers, Buck Another thing to take into consideration is what is on your new character? I mean is your character still in newbie form or have you decorated it with hair/footwear/AO/HUDs of any kind? It is not uncommon for certain scripted attachments to prevent teleportation. Please come back and give us an update; you can add more to your thread by clicking on "options" at the top right hand corner of your original post and "edit", or you can click on "permalink" at the bottom left hand corner of any of the replies so far to respond to people individually.
  3. Reminded me of another... "c.u." as in see you, but I read it as Cee U Next Tuesday !! :matte-motes-oh-rly:

    Screenshots

Welcome to Second Life Answers, Yeplaaaa Screenshots as opposed to photographs? You can do both. When you take a photograph inworld, read the information on the window that comes up. There are options to include the User Interface (UI) if you want (just check that box), and there are options to either send to email, upload into world, or save to computer. If you prefer to take screenshots, you can do this also. Just open up the "Paint" program on your PC, and go back into your Second Life Viewer Screen, press \2ctrl" and "PrtScn" (up above the arrow keys on your keyboard) simultaneously and paste this into the "Paint" document you opened, and save. If you do not wish to have the UI on your screenshot, you can remove it by clicking on "ctrl" "alt" and "F1" at the same time.
  5. Welcome to Second Life Answers Premium membership fees are automatically taken every month/quarter/year, depending on which you originally opted for, and there are not usually refunds. You should have received an email from Linden Lab to remind you that the fee was due to be taken from your account. Fuller information about the way your account is billed can be found on this link to the official Second Life Knowledge Base... http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Billing/ta-p/700037 Edited to add: I read through the Knowledge Base information about Billing, which led me across to a separate document all about billing and recurring fees, the relevant paragraph to your issue is this one ... If you wish to add more to this thread, you can do so either by clicking on "options" at the top right hand corner of your original post and "edit", or by clicking on "permalink" at the bottom left hand corner or your original post.
  6. I hate when people (especially TV presenters) address a group as "guys", when clearly some of us have lady parts and are not guys. I don't like "prolly" used instead of "probably" I haven't heard YOLO or git-er-dun (I've been living in the basement for far too long) ;P
  7. You can have the best graphics card in the world, but if your internet service provider lies about the speed, or you find yourself sharing your broadband with a ton of other users, it's not going to make a deal of difference to your framerate. Before giving up on that new piece of kit, contact your ISP and force them to be honest about what service you're getting. Here in the UK we are waiting for Virgin to fulfil their promises of twice the speed services. Makes me laugh, I am supposed to already be on unlimited and fast - but as more and more people are buying computers and hopping on board the internet highway, we're not getting the benefit of these increased speeds.
  8. Welcome to Second Life Answers, Maddalena The last time I changed my password, I had the same issue. I found I could log into the website on my new password, but for the following 24 hours I had to use my old password to access Second Life.
  9. Welcome to Second Life Answers, Zander. Just to add to Luc and Irene's great answers, do not hesitate to submit an abuse report against those who fake traffic. You may find that nothing appears to be done the first time you submit - but it is possible that LL has given a warning to the bot owner, and they just replace the bots, believing nothing else will happen. Keep checking the area, submit a new area each day you see the 'bots' there, and longer suspensions will be given to the bot owner. They risk losing their account altogether if they persist.
  10. There's tons of places to meet teens and younger - Vortex at Whippersnapper, oh and actually, when you are at Giggles, have a look at profile picks of those around you. Don't write off a place as being full of creepers just because there are a few that spoil it for the rest. Also, if someone behaves inappropriately towards your chosen age, don't hesitate to quietly submit an abuse report to Linden Lab. The more that do, the fewer creepers the kid roleplayers have to tolerate.
  11. You removed everything individually? Did you try the character test - from the Advanced Menu >> Test Character>> Test Male/Female ? This should instantly switch your avatar back into a basic newbie one, and everything should be removed that way. Please continue keeping us updated.
  12. I'll say thanks for the kudos, Luc :matte-motes-bashful-cute: but we'll wait and see how this problem turns out. It's frustrating when something stops us from being able to log in - and it is usually something as small as a cache issue.
  13. I take it you mean "character test" when you say "I did the newb yourself out"? Just need clarification please.
  14. Edited to add in this: http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Second-Life-Viewer/SL-Viewer-constant-crashing-HELP-please/m-p/1637197#M15742 Similar problem to your own? Worth a look at. If not relevant, please continue reading this post. _______________________________________________________________________ Regarding logging into the Beta viewer, and everything being out-of-date, it will remain so unless you change your password and wait for 24 hours (and I am hearing from other Beta grid users that even then the inventory and profile etc. is not updating - so if you need to use Beta grid, send a notecard to Oskar Linden to get him to update your inventory). If Luc's latest advice doesn't work - and I see no reason why it shouldn't work - and taking into consideration that you have tried just about everything you can, including using a lot of different viewers, I would remove every single viewer completely, ensure no files remain (any chat/IM folders I would save to an external drive so I didn't lose these), and reinstall the official Second Life viewer. I would then bring up a log in screen, but without logging in, would go into 'preferences' and 'clear cache', reboot the computer, reset the modem, and attempt to log in again. Now, at this point, if you find you are still unable to log in, and if it still appears to get stuck at "downloading clothing", I would assume it is something within your inventory that is having a hiccup and I would submit a support ticket to Linden Lab, briefly saying you have tried everything - and would give a link to this forum thread so LL can see you've tried, with help from residents, but are completely stuck unable to log in. I say to use the official Second Life viewer, because if your viewer of choice is Firestorm, LL will just refer you to Firestorm website for support, and I feel sure this is a problem with server returning information to you; ie a corrupt file in your inventory. Please continue to keep us up-to-date. (And fingers crossed that Luc's advice works, so you don't have to go through Support).
  15. Bumping thread for "night shift" techie people to have a go at. Night all.
  16. What a nice thread starter ! :matte-motes-grin: Occasionally you do see positive threads here on the forums, but human nature dictates that people are more likely to complain and be negative. There are a ton of blogs out there already, some that focus on the technical side of Second Life, some that focus on personal diaries of adventures in Second Life, some that are all about the shopping, and a lot of blogs on more specialist topics such as roleplay, Gorean lifestyle, etc. Always feel free to vocalise something that you feel is great, but be prepared that undoubtedly someone will want to pee on your parade :matte-motes-frown:(human nature)
  17. I am a little bit lost for words... is that for real? You should log back in (to a quieter location ) and submit an abuse report - let LL look into it. Use Governor Linden as name of abuser, have that screenshot, or a link to it, up on your screen when you submit AR.
  18. Welcome to Second Life Answers, Nicole You are still getting emails from your professor? If you are absolutely certain-sure you want to drop that course - and it seems your professor thinks it would be a bad idea - then you can actually just block your professor by logging in, and clicking the option inworld (should be an option when you look at prof's profile - if he is in your 'friend' list, you don't even have to unfriend him to block him. However, if you wish to close your account, just click on the Second Life icon at the top left hand side of this screen and go into your 'Account' option, left hand side of screen, menu option to delete account is towards the bottom.
  19. And I went and fell for it! There's no n00b like an old n00b
  20. You know more than me on this one, Rolig, and I appreciate your feedback. I sometimes go to venues where they have script counters and auto-eject anyone carrying more than a certain number of scripts. I tend to wear a heavily-scripted HUD a lot of the time, when I'm exploring, and I've fallen foul of a script counter.
  21. You've already had some great responses in this thread, RickerR. Another thing that can cause 'lag' is personal scripts; you might want to pick up a free "script counter" device from Second Life Marketplace. https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/LagMeter-with-land-info-and-other-functions/2263471 Do you feel 'laggy'? (slow, sluggish?) If your house is in one of the Linden Home sims, then I blame the Linden/Mole people who do all the decorating there :matte-motes-wink-tongue: - all the sculpty trees, scripted birdies and water, and there's not really a lot you can do about that.
  22. I doubt there'll ever be a topic as hot as that Russian one yesterday. Although we could try for it
  23. I never thought this day would come that someone would think me to be wise However, I think it would not be wise of me to listen to my inner voice, which tells me to go and jump on that trampoline in the garden at the front of this house (in RL)!
  24. Welcome to Second Life Answers, iiRackz Please use the useful links in valerie and Rolig's posts. Also be assured this is a very common problem. As frustrating as it must seem right now, you will become like those of us who suffer with this 'egg-bound' syndrome on a regular basis :matte-motes-big-grin-wink: I always begin by attempting to rebake (pressing "ctrl" "alt" and "r" all at the same time will rebake the textures onto your avatar). Sometimes this is enough to bring my avatar back to it's normal state, but sometimes it will come back looking quite peculiar (a 'Ruth' avatar). Sometimes sliding a bald base over to my avatar from my inventory will fix it. Other times ... well, it is best to look in the links that Rolig and valerie have given you. I am sure you will work it out just fine.
