  2. interesting calculation. Thanks for doing that. I was aware of the cloud for a while now, but since i didnt need an update for my CS5.5 i never got around to actually do the math and check if it's worth to consider. On the other hand for a few reasons i am still one of those people who want to have full control on when and how to update their software. Regarding all the plugins and addons i am using, it is frustrating when you reopen your program and 50% of the addons report as no longer functional due to not being able to run with the latest version. And not every plugin or addon provider can keep up with the update speed of big companies, so you are kinda stuck waiting for it, and often they also can't include their updates into the procedure of the other software so you need to update it manually. Whilst surely not every update of adobe breaks all addons and is just minor bugfixes or changes - some do. When i have the full software package i can at least decide to stick to that one for as long as i need to or until a certain addon is available for a later version too. Plus (just a bit of pointy fun here) i actually dislike when every new feature is being implemented right away into my versions. If i want to do 'beta-testing' i'll sign up for it ; ) (i guess you know what i mean, sometimes they really use the direct consumers as silent beta testers before putting it into the full paid versions) But in general, and under certain circumstances i think it's a good deal from what i have seen.
  3. i can't see much of a difference either. The 'green spots' and possibly what you feel like being a contrast issue apppear on the lft side, as well as on the right side. The only difference appears to be the right image being brighter. And thus these 'artefacts' are more visible. The difference in the brightness of both images could either be based on the daylight settings in the region, or on surrounding lightsources. Or as Peggy already suggested, it could be that your graphic drivers have recieved an automatic update. You should check on that, by looking at your drivers properties and see what version and date they are from. Or looking at your windows update log. If so, you can try to check on the Gamma-values, and all others that are influencing the brightness and contrast.
  4. In addition to the other good answers: You can also allways 'add' something to an existing link. So in case - let's say: you already linked most of it, but then you notice that you forgot a door or a window. Just select this forgotten part first, and then select your whole linkset and simply press 'link' again. (CTRL+L) This will add it to the existing linkset without changing the rootprim or former linking order. But as Alicia already said, you might get unwanted results when linking speciffic parts like doors and windows. If their scripts are not using local procedures they might start to flip into wrong directions. There is often a reason why builders did not link certain parts. Should you experience any of this, it's best to unlink those parts again : Rightclick > Edit > Select Linked then select the part you want to remove from the linkset and press CTRL+SHIFT+L, this will unlink only this one part but keep the rest of the linkset intact)
  5. Very valid point, and just supports what i was trying to explain in my topology tutorials. 'stick close to the avatar's topology' and edgeflow in the areas that are being influenced the most within animations. (which is a good advice no matter how the quality of the underlying model is. So even if we get avatar 2.0 and people still keep creating those chess-pattern meshes or wild topology, they will still have avatar flesh peaking through. That is nothing the deformer or anything else can or could fix , and lays within the responsability of the clothing and attachment creators : )
  6. In case you tried to upload an image from your harddrive, you have to save an image inworlds to be able to add it to your profile feed. Another reason can sometimes be a server issue. (We had already problems in the past where the upload wasn't possible until it was fixed or resolved) Another solution you can try is to clear your cache (http://wiki.phoenixviewer.com/fs_cache_clear ) And if this doesn't help try to do a clean install of firestorm: http://wiki.phoenixviewer.com/doku.php?id=clean_reinstall
  7. I know there was one once on 'vixens isle', with cars and poseballs and a great variety of movies. But i don't know if they still have that. In all other cases you can try to do a search, insides of SL either in the map or in the regular inworld search. And type in : drive in or cinema to find related entries : )
  8. If the AO comes out too dark with RTT you could try to change the Gamma Values to around 2.0 / 2.5 by putting a gamma & gain map as master. (but choose to not have it reverse the gamma correction in that case). Or try to disable the gamma correction completely while rendering. Or you try to make your AO bakes with Mental Ray ( ) Or Vray - if you have it - i personally find VRay still the best. Eventhough Light tracer and skylight can help improve here in terms of not leaving dark borders where floaters are. For instance: Use the Scanline renderer Add a white material to your geometry / model. Add a skylight Open RTT 's options and add a Complete Map to your output (make sure the shadows are selected in the render options 'and' the skylight) Use the Skylight's Rays per Sample parameters to raise the quality in case you have artefacts. Check on the actual rendered image (not in the preview window ) they mostly have a different look and outcome. On a side nodte: It still might leave a few things to retouch in an image editor. It could also be a smoothing group problem, which i doubt in your case, since it's all plain walls. For more info look here: http://wiki.polycount.com/AmbientOcclusionMap#A3ds_Max_Baking_Methods
  9. Hey Nalates, So, while I would very much like to see this version released and other things fixed later... that may create more problems. I feel wanting this version is a bit self centered of me. i totally understand. And it's always good to see new features released. Stable or not, in the end all of them add to a better experience, more variety and choices, so nothing wrong with that So while I can't say I'm not sure if I want the Deformer as it is released, I do, I am willing to wait for a more comprehensive and well thought out decision. yeah that is kinda exactly the point where i am finding myself at. And i am sure both sides could find a middle way on what is needed to accept it as 'release-able'.
  10. you can change your 'display' name: Setting or changing your display name You can change your display name once every seven days, but you can Reset it at any time, which makes it appear as your "classic" Second Life first name and last name, or your username. To set or change your display name: Log into Second Life. In the Second Life Viewer, click Me > Profile... or in the toolbar. Click Edit Profile. Click Display Name. Type the desired display name in the field under New Display Name. Type the name again to confirm. Click Save. For more infos look here: http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Usernames-and-display-names/ta-p/700173 But be informed that the display name is not the same as your username. The username will allways remain the same.
  11. LOL ! how could i know ... =) in that case of course replace the 'guy' with the 'lady' who made it for you : ) And listen to her advice. As i said too, you can surely adjust this little left over issue with editing the parameters in the script. Cheers! Code.
  12. you can change the display settings for the skeleton. In order to change its look and switch away from this stick-type. (http://autodesk-maya.wonderhowto.com/how-to/control-joint-display-size-maya-197109/) Or you can grab skeletons from here: http://blog.machinimatrix.org/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/SL-avatar-rigg.dae (rightclick and save , then import the DAE into Maya) might be you need to lower the joint size of the bones on this one. Another solution: use wiz daxters SLAV SLAV Maya to get the default skeletons (be aware only the paid version supports custom avatars and other features)
  13. There is no drawback or things to be afraid of. All it does is really just putting an info in your both profiles filling your names into each others 'partner' field. If you want to propose to some one, just do as Marigold said. And in case someone else proposes to you you will find a request which you can accept. Should you no longer want to be partnered, each of you can at any time cancel this virtual relation by ending the partnership from within your account settings. It really is nothing more then a visual reference to whom you are virtually partnered. Whatever it involves on the private side - now that is something that is totally up to you guys ; )
  14. This depends on many things. It could be that you did not grant internet access permissions to the application, or having some additional firewall software installed on your ipad which prevents it from access. It could also be that you need a newer ver4sion of PM (it needs to be above 1.2 to run on an iPad) However, the best is to look at the pocket metaverse support page: http://www.pocketmetaverse.com/support/ And in case of questions that their FAQ's can't answer they offer there an email adress to contact them. If you should do that try to describe your problem very explicit. The more info you can offer the better they can help you. =)
  15. There is no age verification process anymore. You only can put in your age once when you create the account. And all your access or restrictions are based on this birthdate. In case you are not 18 yet you will have to wait until you reach this age to have full access to adult regions or features. On a sidenote: creating different accounts with a different birthdate is not a good idea. Should your real age be revealed this can lead to being banned from SL permanentally.
  16. Unfortunately the storage time in your account is only 30 days. So no way of getting older transction lists out from there. Best tip is to save them once a month to your hard drive. (they offer export formats like XML in the transaction view to do so) This way you will have them allways available. 17. Heya Seedro, if the seller offered a refund that is one good step to make the customer happy again. However you can not 'force' anyone to remove their negative review on their experiences with an object. The seller can politely ask if they would like - now that the refund has been done - to remove or edit this comment. There is nothign wrong with that question and certainly not against the SL TOS. (IMHO) If the seller would be impolite or trying to force or scare the customer into removing the comment > that is surely violating certain rules about behaviour /harassment etc. But however the seller him/herself is also free to post a following comment / review. Saying that a refund has been done, and explaining the situation. So others reading this know what was going on and that it wasn't simply just ignored.
  18. no problem =) And no, apperently when you exported it first it clearly applied the subdivision. Thus you could see the model 'as is' in the preview window. SL itself has no way of knowing or handling active / un applied subdivisions. And no own subdivision tool or function to use. Means you allways have to apply it and make it real somewhere along the modeling process. Either before exporting, or with some exporters (which have an option for that) while exporting.
  19. Either just have the guy who made you this cone rotate it so it faces already the right direction and then apply the location, rotation and scale to it and esport it again. in that case it should behave correctly. Or edit the script as Rolig already said, and change the way the rotation is handled. the rotation procedure allways needs to take the orientation of a certain object into account to work correctly. (http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Rotation)
  20. I also think as Chosen that this is a UV problem. Especially because you said that you edited the model at a later point again. In that case the UVs might have gotten out of space. Or even have new faces which lay on unused or wrong areas of the UV grid and the texture.
  21. nope you can't =) but hey it's not about the winning anyways it's about the helping, hehe
  22. It looks like the subdivision / smoothing edges wasnt applied when being exported into the rigged version. you could either apply your subdivision or smoothing modifiers already in maya and then export it. Or depending on which Maya- DAE exporter you are using look if there is any apply option for the modifiers in the stack. Which is also important to make the calculated weights on the only virtually existing vertices become 'real', otherwise all it has to relate to, is the existing vertices of the non subdivided object.
  23. Hey, yeah in most cases you should still be able to get in at some location if one fails during to the rolling restarts. Sorry to hear you have so much troubles with fixing it. If everything else fails, check also your firewall and antivirus software if they maybe got updates over the night, or look into their logfiles / event logs, if there are events regarding to the viewers you have been trying to use. Maybe they isolated it or blocked it, if so generate a new rule to allow the viewer's full access on the OS and on the internet. This can certainly also lead to the application already failing at VFS status.
  24. As far as i know some of the older viewer do not work on Windows 8 anymore. But everything that is based on the Viewer 3 Code of the official SL viewer should work just fine. And for the rest it's as Rolig already said.
  25. Hello Steve, have a look here : http://secondlife.com/landing/voicemorphing and here for the details on how to use and activate it : http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Using-voice-chat/ta-p/700169#Section_.8
