  1. Hello, the download-speed is throttled anyways to something far below the average's max, 1Mbit will be sufficient to use Second LIfe, but if you go into a big sim, you will see the world loading very slowly. Make sure that "Texture Compression" is not active in your preferences (menu Me-> Preferences-> graphics-> Advanced mode-> Hardware Options) or you would suffer from client lag while the viewer is trying to compress the slowly incoming textures. Also set your draw distance slider to minimum in the graphics preferences (64 m).
  2. Hello, you don't have to press that button, you can just ignore it.
  3. Hello, sadly it is not possible to deposit Lindendollars at virwox without paying one of their terminals in-world. Here is a list of terminals: https://www.virwox.com/terminals.php You can log in directly next to one of those terminals, when you put the name and coordinates into the "Start at" field on the login screen, for example (I picked a random one from the above list): "Haddath/197/219/1668". See this screenshot: I hope this helps!
  4. Hello, did you try rightlick-> paste and rightclick-> copy? It works pretty well for me. The only exception: when you copy something from a resident's profile window in SL, it will be gone from your computer's clipboard once you closed the profile window. I think that's a bug. So keep the profile window where you cut/copied your text from open, until you finished pasting it to the desired destination.
  5. Hello, what's the error message that you see when you try to login?Just like Rolig said, I like to ask to please use the Options menu at the top right of this page and click 'edit' to add information about the error message you get, please! Try a clean install first. http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Clean_Install Check your antivirus software, and your firewall. Check if everything is whitelisted (the Second Life viewer, SLVoice.exe and slplugin.exe), try disabling HTTP Textures and HTTP Inventory in the develop menu (bring it up in the login screen with the keyboard shortcut CTRL+ALT+Q, CTRL+ALT+D). Update your graphics card drivers to the latest version - and if you did that lately, try rolling them back to the last version where the viewer worked.Try Google DNS ( https://developers.google.com/speed/public-dns/docs/using ), and also try to connect with a wired LAN connection, in case you're using WLAN or any other wireless internet connection. Also try switching the graphics option in the preferences (you can do that before you attempt to login, from the menu Me->Preferences) to the lowest possible options, also check the Hardware options in Me->Preferences->Graphics->Hardware, and set everything to minimum/try switching the settings. Download the latest version of the viewer: https://secondlife.com/support/downloads?lang=en-US There are known issues with Skydrive/iTunes/Photostream. If you have either of them installed, try if it works when you uninstall them first (although these bugs shouldn't actually prevent you from logging in).
  6. Hello, the best would probably be to contact support: http://support.secondlife.com/contact-support
  7. Hello, I'm sorry I don't quite understand the question, could you please click 'Edit' at the top of this page and be a bit more specific? Thanks!
  8. In case you don't meet the system requirements you can still use Radegast viewer, it's the only viewer with optional 3D graphics for desktop computers, and can be run on almost every desktop system: http://radegast.org/wiki/Radegast_Download
  9. Hello, please don't click the "x" symbol when you catch a fish. These fish are non-copyable and they will be lost. Always open the notification and click 'OK' or 'accept'. The 'x' symbol means 'dismiss' and when you do that the fishes will be lost forever:/ I've lost about 300 fish myself and had to learn that the hard way: /
  11. Hello, please make sure your boyfriend uses the latest viewer version. He'd best uninstall all previous versions, and install the latest version. He can download the official Second Life viewer from here: https://secondlife.com/support/downloads?lang=en-US
  12. Hello, you can set your date of birth here: https://secondlife.com/my/account/
  13. Hello, check the startup location at the login screen. And select 'last location' or 'home location' for example from that dropdown.
  14. Hello, please also update your viewer to the latest version: https://secondlife.com/support/downloads?lang=en-US
  15. Hello, scripts will only work in parcels where scripts are allowed for anyone. See: http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Managing-your-parcel/ta-p/700113#Section_.6.10 Or get your sub a collar that also works in no-script zones.
  16. It is possible. If a script kept your permissions. Otherwise only if you sit down on something, or accept a permission request. Be very careful when you accept a permission-request like this: You can find scripted objects when you activate beacons: http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/How-to-deal-with-abuse-and-harassment/ta-p/1339983#Section_.3.1 (also check the 'scripted' checkbox in the beacons floater)

Hello, please check this page: http://wiki.phoenixviewer.com/dns_fail
  18. Maybe you have an active gesture. Open your inventory (press CTRL+I), and type 'active' in the search field, then right-click all suspicious gestures and select 'deactivate'. Did you try the 'Release Keys' option from the advanced menu? A full clean reainstall didn't work? Also, if you see a 'stand up' button at the bottom of the viewer screen, click it.
  19. As a last option, you can go to the menu Advanced-> Release Keys (You can enable the Advanced menu with the keyboard shortcut CTRL+ALT+D) This will effectively stop ANY script or attachment that animates or otherwise controls your avatar.
  20. Hello, please check if you're wearing a scripted attachment (e.g. a 'Chimera' or a dance hud) that animates your avatar, Click the Appearance My Appearance button on the left side of the Viewer window. The APPEARANCE window opens. Click the WEARING tab to see your current outfit.
  21. Hello, I sent you a 'stop all animations' tool in-world. Just click it, and all animations will stop immediately.
  22. Hello, I scripted an example for you. Just put it into a new prim, then sit on the prim (press the Escape key if you don't see any change immediately, if the camera is still locked): rotate_cam(){ integer iDegree; for (iDegree = 0; iDegree < 360; iDegree++) { rotation vRotArc = llEuler2Rot( <0.0, 0.0, iDegree> * DEG_TO_RAD ); //-- creates a rotation constant, n degrees around the X axis vector vPosOffset = <0.0, 1.0, 0.0>; //-- creates an offset one meter in the positive Y direction vector vPosRotOffset = vPosOffset * vRotArc; //-- rotates the offset to get the motion caused by the rotation llSetCameraParams([ CAMERA_ACTIVE, 1, // 1 is active, 0 is inactive CAMERA_FOCUS, llGetPos(), // region relative position CAMERA_FOCUS_LOCKED, TRUE, // (TRUE or FALSE) CAMERA_POSITION, llGetPos() + (vPosOffset * vRotArc), // region relative position CAMERA_POSITION_LOCKED, TRUE // (TRUE or FALSE) ]); llSleep(0.002); } llClearCameraParams(); llUnSit(llAvatarOnSitTarget());}default{ state_entry() { llSitTarget(<0.0,0.0,0.5>,ZERO_ROTATION); } changed(integer change) { if (change & CHANGED_LINK && llAvatarOnSitTarget() != NULL_KEY) { llRequestPermissions(llAvatarOnSitTarget(), PERMISSION_CONTROL_CAMERA); } } run_time_permissions(integer perm) { if (perm & PERMISSION_CONTROL_CAMERA) { rotate_cam(); } }} You can IM me with questions in-world. ETA I used the code from here: https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Rotation https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/LlSetCameraParams
  23. Jared: it could possibly be another program with an "overlay icons shell extension". If you're 100% sure that you don't have iTunes or Skydrife installed (or didn't uninstall either properly), I would like to ask you to file a bug-report at https://jira.secondlife.com/secure/CreateIssue!default.jspa and mention that you don't have Skydrive or iTunes installed (please fill out all fields there, together with the information about your Environment from Help-> About Second Life), but please note that Linden Lab will only look into the issue, if the information you're posting is only about the official viewer.
