  1. Hello, this is an issue with Skydrive (or iTunes). Either uninstall them, or (in case it's Skydrive), you can try this workaround for Skydrive(tested in Windows 7) by removing some registry entries: 1) Start regedit (start -> run -> type “regedit” -> hit enter) 2) Navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\explorer\ShellIconOverlayIdentifiers 3) In the left panel you should see 3 SkyDrive keys (1, 2 and 3) as shown here in attached image 4) Delete all 3 of them 5) Reboot 6) Enjoy both Skydrive and Second Life working at the same time A fix is on the way, and will be in the next viewer version. I was about to give you a link to the brand-new viewer with a fix, but it seems that the latest build failed =D Check the download page in a couple of days: https://secondlife.com/support/downloads?lang=en-US If you can't wait and don't want to uninstall Skydrive/iTunes, you can use this (unofficial) viewer version: http://automated-builds-secondlife-com.s3.amazonaws.com/hg/repo/integration_viewer-development/rev/268856/arch/CYGWIN/installer/Second_Life_3-4-5-268856_Development_Setup.exe Links to non-windows version here: SL Viewer Automated builds
  2. Hello, please go to https://support.secondlife.com/create-case/ to report an offline region (select Land & Region -> Report offline region from the dropdown).
  3. Hello, as far as I know, you can't. Contact support and explain your situation: http://support.secondlife.com/contact-support
  4. When I open multiple topics in "Answers" in tabs in Firefox (18), often (not always) I can only give Kudos in the last opened tab, in all other tabs I get an error message (something about an invalid/missing app/security token). Is there a workaround? Thank you in advance:) ETA: This is how the error message looks like, it happens every now and then when I open multiple answers in tabs and give kudos in a tab after I did the same in another of the opened tabs before, while keeping all of them open:
  5. Hello, are you sitting behind a proxy? You have to enter the proxy settings in the viewer under Me->Preferences -> Network. Best way to find out your proxy settings is to check the proxy settings in your webbrowser. Also, please use the latest official viewer from https://secondlife.com/support/downloads?lang=en-US If you have further problems, you can also contact support at http://support.secondlife.com/contact-support
  6. Hello, the viewer got an updated gpu_table list recently, that means your graphics settings were reset to default values when you logged in recently. Go to Me->Preferences-> Graphics and try different graphics settings. Also always use your primary monitor for the viewer, because multi-screen setups are not supported and can lead to several bake fails. Also go to your graphics control panel (NVidia control panel, CCC or similar), and check whether the correct graphics adapter is used for the Second Life viewer.
  7. Hello, if you're using phoenix, there is a good chance you can find your password in a textfile or xml file in this folder: C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR USERNAME\Application Data\Phoenix (on windows 7: C:\users\YOUR USERNAME\appdata\roaming\Phoenix As far as I can tell this won't work with the latest official and Firestorm viewers anymore.
  8. Hello, also there's a checkbox in the preferences (access with the keyboard shortcut CTRL+P) under 'Privacy': "Only friends and groups know I'm online"
  9. Hello, also check your graphics card software (NVidia Control panel, CCC or something like this) if it's set to using the correct graphics adapter for Second Life.
  10. Hello, please contact support about the issue, they are the only ones who can do a refund, maybe (the same happened to me once, and probably to alot of others, too): http://support.secondlife.com/contact-support

    land credit?

Hello, you can change your payment plans on this website: https://secondlife.com/my/account/landfees.php?lang=en-US The fees are also listed on that page.
  12. Hello, when you login, choose a different start location at the startup location dropdown. It looks like this: Type in 'Goguen' for example, there (that's a public test sandbox). If you can't find that dropdown, go to Me->Preferences over the viewer's menu, and check the checkbox like this (in the 'General' section): I hope this helps. More information can be found here: http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Login-failure/ta-p/700109
  13. Hello, here is a huge list of all kind of viewers: http://virtyou.com/viewer_track/ A little more information about what each does, can be found here: https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Third_Party_Viewer_Directory I also recommend the Modem World blog with very deep insights in all of those viewers: https://modemworld.wordpress.com/
  14. Hello, an option to make this stop: go to preferences (press the keyboard shortcut CTRL+P) and click the "Sound & Media" tab, and de-select the option 'Allow Media to autoplay'. You can then start the media that you want to listen to manually, by hovering with your mouse over the 'play' button at the very top right corner of the viewer window, then click on the 'More >>>' button. This will allow you to select which media you want to actually listen to. I've marked the relevant spots on this screenstot: Hope this helps!
  15. Hello, in addition to what Rolig said, here is a guide about how to make a 'clean install': http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Clean_Install
  16. Hello, when that happens just remember the keyboard shortcut CTRL+ALT+R to fix your clothing and skin layers. This is known as 'rebake' (your skin and clothing layer textures will be merged by your viewer, and uploaded to the Second Life server). The menu option is in the advanced menu -> "Rebake Textures". http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Advanced_menu
  17. Hello, the only thing you can do about it (apart from asking the owner of the zombie-skybox to move his skybox to a different height) is to reduce your draw distance. Go to the graphics settings (press the keyboard shortcut CTRL+P and go to the graphics tab), then move the slider for the 'Draw Distance' to the left, until the zombie-skybox isn't visible for you anymore. You maybe have to enable the advanced preferences (that's a button) inside the graphics options.

  19. Hello, you can change the proxy settings in the login screen by pressing CTRL+P. Did this help?
  20. Hello, I had the same problem (see https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/WEB-4600 ). This is what I did to fix it (apart from creating a support ticket at http://support.secondlife.com/create-case ): Made a clean install (see http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/How-to-uninstall-and-reinstall-Second-Life/ta-p/1375231 ) of the latest viewer Release (uninstalled all other viewers, also Third-Party-Viewers) and installed it in English (do not use in any other language for this attempt to fix) - download here: http://secondlife.com/support/downloads/ . Then I went to a sim with the main release server ( follow this link for example: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Chilbo/207/21/95 ) and stayed on ground (not in a skybox), and opened the Received Inventory folder (see http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Received-items-Beta-feature/ta-p/1393755 ) and kept it open then I opened the merchant outbox (see http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Selling-in-the-Marketplace/ta-p/700193#Section_.4.2 ) and uploading worked (while keeping the Received Inventory folder open).
  21. Hello, do you have a dual-monitor setup? If so, please rebake your skin using the viewer on your primary monitor. The Second Life Viewer doesn't support dual-monitor setups, although it seems to work in most cases, you should always only rebake on your primary screen. You can usually switch between primary/secondary screen in your OS' display settings, to be able to use the viewer on any of your monitors. If that's not the case you could try to use another internet connection to rebake your skin (ask a good friend if he could login for you for a moment in a different location, or try it in an internet cafe or something), in case that your proxy or other hardware has a cached version of the baked skin. (Rebake with the keyboard shortcut CTRL+ALT+R, while you wear the skin on your avatar) Another option that comes to my mind, is switching between HTTP-Textures/HTTP-Inventory and UDP-Textures/UDP-Inventory mode. That option is in the Develop menu (bring that up with the keyboard shortcut ctrl+alt+q). Last options is to try switching your graphics settings (press CTRL+P, go to the 'Graphics' tab, and try switching the shader options, and the avatar rendering options, and also in the hardware-section (that's the button in advanced mode) the texture compression ('lossy compression) and the other features. What viewer did you use, and which Operating System? ETA: Are you maybe talking about the marketplace? If so, please file a ticket with support at http://support.secondlife.com/create-case
  22. Hello, you can export and re-import the avatar shape, some third-party viewers have an option for that. I know that Cool VL viewer has an option for that (at the bottom of the appearance menu), I haven't tested it yet, so I don't know if it actually works. And third party viewers also have an option to export and import prim shapes to/from xml. But you can only do that with full-perm items, and you cannot export textures. So everything you imported will have to be retextured. Please note that you only have the rights to export and re-import things that you own (created yourself), otherwise you would violate the Terms of Service.
  23. Hello, you have to do the tutorial again for Aditi here: https://secondlife.aditi.lindenlab.com/my/account/ip/tutorial.php Also the inventory databases on Aditi get full from time to time and Linden Lab engineers have to clean them manually, this happens once / twice a month, and until this gets done, many things on Aditi will refuse to work.
  24. Hello, I'm not 100% sure what it means, but I think you have to choose a sub-category in order to make it work!
  25. Hello, do you have iTunes or Skydrive installed? If so, try if it works when you uninstall them. There is a workaround for Skydrive (tested in Windows 7) by removing some registry entries: 1) Start regedit (start -> run -> type “regedit” -> hit enter) 2) Navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\explorer\ShellIconOverlayIdentifiers 3) In the left panel you should see 3 SkyDrive keys (1, 2 and 3) as shown here in attached image 4) Delete all 3 of them 5) Reboot 6) Enjoy both Skydrive and Second Life working at the same time
