Weekly on Tuesday evenings I run a discussion group for talking about Progressive Politics / Liberal Left / etc.

In conjunction with that, I've kicked off a new group:

https://my.secondlife.com/groups/5c142c81-6e60-a7a8-a3f8-316b81ed0e5e

Being new as of maybe an hour or so ago, not anybody there yet. But hopefully will get a few and then can be used to organize discussions, gatherings, and so on.

So if you want a space in Second Life to talk world politics, political issues, and so on - without being shouted down by right-wing, libertarian, or conservative talking heads and points. If you want to get together with other progressives, liberals, leftists, and so on...

If you'd like to talk politics but want a space where it doesn't have to be a fight.

Join the group.

And join the Tuesday meetings. :)

Meeting announcements:

And in both cases, I am always looking for topics to discuss to give it a wider perspective than my own.

That is the laziest political cartoon I have ever read X-D could be applied to ANY party philosophy bahahah. Im actually convinced whoever drew this never actually met and spoke with a Libertarian, and instead opted to be educated by facebook threads..... Anyway, cool looking group, but does anyone know of a group like this that allows all sorts of thought? I'd much rather participate in a conversation with all sides of the spectrum than close out a few things I disagree with.

Libertarian is not equal to right wing conservatives.

hey are not liberals or progressives; and when they mix with liberals and progressives, all they do is become attack dogs against liberal or progressive ideas and ideals.

I'm editing out my snarky list of what I do think of them... because this is not a topic for arguing this.

But do note how... anytime a progressive or a liberal actually ever says anything - it's one of these libertarians that feels a need to come into that space and attack, challenge, or usurp the space for themselves.. As your post did. You make the point for libertarian exclusion from a progressive liberal space yourself by doing that invasion.

I will tell you this. This topic wasn't about you. If you don't see me invading your space, why the need to always invade the space of others trying to form communities for themselves?

Your attack makes the very point for why such a group is needed.

The Forum is a public space, everyone is free to comment as they see fit, no "Invasion" has taken place. If you are going to group people in the way you did, please stand by it, don't delete it then accuse me of ill-intent. I was actually quite interested in the concept until I realized I would not be welcome, and that is why I commented on the thread.

Not trying to attack you or your ideas, while I disagree, I at least understand where you come from, and I respect you for you positions. The right wing and so called conservatives of today I have a much harder time with, which is why I can't leave being included in the same sentence with them alone.

Funny story, but a quick reading of the news today alone and I see two stories about a right wing group being barred from having a rally by a Democrat politician, so...

Just tossing that out there as something to think about.

Where do you get your news from?

Yep. There's one source right there. Not a "fake news" thing, which is where you were going with that question, I'm sure.

Even the ACLU called foul on it, and they're pretty liberal.

The point I was making though, was to double check to make sure the pot isn't calling the kettle black, as the old saying goes.

The thing is, it was two stories about the same thing, and it wasn't really today. The interesting thing about electronic news is that it doesn't really have dates. For instance, I just pulled this up today:

Once upon a time in the United States, there was a saying,it went like this "I do not agree with what you are saying, but i will defend to the death your right to say it". That sentiment seems forgotten now. Now holding a different political opinion is no longer seen as a fundamental right as an American, but rather as a personal attack to be met by fighting back. We are mo longer united by our belief in personal freedoms but divided over politics. This has occurred as politics becomes increasingly irrelevant to the problems facing ordinary Americans. We no longer engage in political debate, but rather just gather in groups of like minded individuals to sing the praises of our view while trash talking the opposition, no effort whatsoever is ever made to understand the positions of the other side. This is not the way it should be done, this is not the way to arrive at truth.

So as you can see. A progressive cannot even make a call to find others to talk with, without all of you having to jump in and make "counter points"... to what for me, is just a post looking for others to group with.

Don't any of you have your own spaces to be in, rather than having to invade others?

Is your politics nothing but to troll those you oppose?

But you couldn't stop there could you, you had to make generalizations about people by lumping together three different groups as if they were the same. Then after you do that you expect no one to object. What if someone lumped a group you belong to, with two you are opposed to? I don't even want to do it to give an example? I doubt you would remain quiet if it was done in a public forum such as this.

Pussycat, you've been in the forums long enough to know that nobody has a "space" here. Just try to look for pay pigs or people to bite and you'll see that. Isn't that why you've actually created your own space in the form of your group and Tuesday meetings?

I certainly don't intend to troll you, particularly as I'm probably a progressive (which sounds nice, though I'm not sure I know exactly what it entails). But I'm also contrarian by nature. I can agree with myself faster and better than any of you, so seeking like minded individuals isn't as interesting to me as seeking counterpoints. I think we're (the US) going in the wrong direction, but I don't see how chatting with fellow progressives in the back seat will change that. I'd rather try to sway the people who are holding the steering wheel. If I get swayed in the process, that's fine too. It means someone had a persuasive argument... and I love those.

I'm frustrated by increasing polarization, distrust of data and expertise, and a bunch of other things. Yet I'll endure people who yell their disagreements at me, particularly if they weaken their own position by doing so. I'm willing and sometimes able to help them self destruct, while struggling not to do so myself. And by enduring them, I'm hopefully seen by others as both capable and willing of serious discourse. Of course, if I'm too effective at enabling self destruction, I scare away those who have interesting ideas and little self confidence. I work on that, but I don't know if I'm making progress.

I have the potentially misguided belief that reason will ultimately prevail, even if I don't.

I don't see any trolling, invading, or attacks in this thread. So far, I only see people discussing a topic in a discussion forum.

If you didn't want feedback, you wouldn't have posted in a place that has a Reply button. You even said,

Or did you mean to say "I am only looking for topics that match mine and agree with my own."?

However, if you want to see some trolling, I'm sure there are forum goers here that would be happy to provide.
