Advanced Griefer?

The other day i encountered a male avatar on my land property that was angry with me because i returned one of his items that he claimed flew over to my sim four sims away. I basically told him to stop crying like a little girl & get over it. He then threatened me saying "your gonna regret that B*****", Never thought nothing of it but maybe him coming back spewing dumb griefer stuff all over. He came back with an alt because i banned the account that threatened me & created so much lag & apparenty hacked into my estate rights & took them away. I couldnt eject him ban nor freeze him. He placed mega prims on the sim & continously made my computer crash until i set my login spawn destination elsewhere. He kept coming back & messing with the sim & the terrain. I had to call chung to remove him because my lag was so bad i was actually scared to go back Anyways he kept coming back& back doing the same thing threatening in my IM's he would do this everyday until i left the sim. Well i did. couldnt deal with it & such. He im'd me this morning saying " aww you got scared and left your sim" told you that you would regret this or something..then he said so how's michigan treating you? ....O.O! then went on and named the city, then my IP i checked it to make sure he really had it & he did. Then said i need to pay my comcast bill which is the name of my internet/cable provider. Really freaking scary. I reported to LL & going to report to local today. Should i be worried about anything pertaining to my PC? since he has already made it crash several times?

I would imagine the only thing he/she may have gotten was your IP. Which he/she then ran your IP thru a whois search and determined you were using comcast and location/state/city.. Probably throwing little tidbits of info to intimidate you. You did goog to report it. Make sure the report includes the region name and times of date these occured so they can look into his use of scripted items maybe..Be careful what information you give others as well.

If they start telling you more personal info like . Exactly how much your bill is. and how much past due. Or other personal info that could not be derived from that type of service, then you need to start worrying more and your personal protection on your PC, Just sounds like a kid acting like a dork to me

Yes, but mostly no.

Your computer's IP address is just about public knowledge, it's how any other computer knows where to send replies.  The IP address gives them your internet provider (ISP) because that's who it 'belongs' to.  It can also be used, roughly to tell you where someone is but it won't let this person know your real address unless they are doing some seriously illegal hacking elsewhere.  No great need to worry about them turning up at your door or anything.  Unfortunately knowing your IP address does mean this person can try all sorts of hacking on your PC.  Use a firewall, anti-virus and anti-malware software and generally make sure you follow normal internet safety procedures.

Send an abuse-report to Linden Lab with all the information you have, including copies of IMs and chat logs if possible.  Note that he has broken the TOS by deliberately griefing, crashing the sim, crashing your viewer, misusing IP information, etc.

This guy is sick and I'd say there's an implied real-life threat in mentioning your city.  You may want to hire a lawyer and start legal proceedings against him to get a restraining order, at least.  I'm pretty strongly in favour of RL law but in this case it might be better to just mute and ignore the person since you've already moved.  Just make sure you clean your computer and keep it guarded.

advanced griefer that is more to the hacker side. dont underestimate him he is good. all hackers are.

he is just intimidating you. knowing your city and state and internet provider he may soon know your rl name.

my suggestion is contact LL as you have and maybe even a federal agency for a search on him. if you think anything is getting worse. maybe spend a day or two somewhere safer then your home and dont use a computer. can never be too safe.

 

about the situation for your sim. he is just a troll. (i am as well but not in SL )  finding out your information from a computer isnt hard. even if you can write your own program. to make what i said simple stay low.

sorry to hear what you went throught but its very disturbing and the fact that he was able to get your IP sound to me he must have inside knowledge of your account, I sure if you dont work for LL or anyother  organisation and assuming all the info he gave to you was correct then how can he get that, I work in it and there is no way as a normal member of LL I can get Ip addresses and what not , unless I have acess to your account details I would assume,   be nice if I stand corrected or not

Weird that he was upset that you returned something to him. Guess you shouldn't have called him a "little girl."

The censors remove posts that discuss ripping IPs from media streams but it's well known that the so-called "justice league" & others can do this in SL. Depending on your isp he may be able to locate exactly where you live. Chances are he doesn't live anywhere nearby so you probably aren't in any physical danger. On the other hand, with a psycho you never know .. If he's a good hacker he may be able to get credit card or bank account info from your computer, tho .. so this is the real threat. He may also wreck or take over your computer with trojans or other malware. I hope local law enforcement takes this seriously. The dude sounds dangerous.

If you contact the FBI they will tell you to contact local law enforcement. The feds only get involved once its been determined that federal or interstate laws have likely been broken, & the local police ask them to.

• The griefer has not demonstrated any hacking skills at all yet but even if he had there is a big scale of hacking ability from being able to crash your SL viewer to finding out the USA's missile launch codes.

• Yeah, he's only got to hack that ISP, get a list of all their customers in that city and then use some extra magic to match IP address to customer account.  True, he 'may' be able to do that, but it's not likely.

• Because moving-out is so easy and stress-free ^^.  Honestly, unless the police suggest this it's ridiculous.  You're better-off being in your own home and calling the cops if a psycho turns up than you are permanently living in fear that there might be one out there.

• Except that as my first post and Dilbert's said - it's very easy to get that information and means nothing of the sort.

there is no way as a normal member of LL I can get Ip addresses.

Thank you, in turn.  Not only makes the hacker's job easier but does the griefer's job for him - creates an upset, worried victim that they can laugh about.  There are always different opinions, of course, but I thought these comments were just going too far.  Now I have to wait to see if I'll get RIC'd and have my wrists slapped for flaming ^^

actually... the griefer did break some laws... bullying on the internet for one... if you get a lawyer... he can supboena LL records and find out who he is in RL and if he is in the USA, you can sue him in civil court.... there is also the denial of use of your property... sock him for a lawsuit for a million bucks... that will shock him... and you can sue him in your local court... so he has to travel... you can also get an injuction against him from logging in to SL at all.... and that can also be say that if you are harrased in any way in SL... his equipment can be seized and gone over by a computer forensic specialist... if he has even contacted someone to harrass you.. he is in contempt of court and therefore the court can issue a warrant for his arrest.... and he can be barred from ever using a computer again....

Yeah, contact authorities .. but in the US you must contact local authorities 1st. I know cuz me & my bbf once busted an internet pedophile. He had posted pics of spreading feces on naked ltl girls. We contacted the FBI & was told to contact local police 1st. So we did. The guy had told us he was a college professor. Turns out he was just a loser living in a rented room above a bar in Montana. I'm not sure what ever happened to him but he disappeared from the internet.

The trubble is that local police may not be very tech savvy or may not think that internet crime is 'real' crime or may be busy w/ local law enforcement issues or may just not care. Use2 almost always be this way but things are slowly changing. The OP needs to contact local police 1st & they will advise him or her what to do. If they think it's a serious issue they will get the FBI involved cuz its almost surely an interstate case over the internet. As for a civil case the attorney fees prolly make it prohibitively expensive to pursue, unless one is rich, highly motivated & can get help for free somehow.

Hope you sent an AR. Griefing in Second Life world is one thing but this is more like internet stalking. I don't think you have to worry about your computer. They likely just got your IP from the radio stream or something. Don't listen to music or watch video in Second Life unless you know and trust the environment or people. Those things capture your IP. Don't let your viewer access the web from within. That can capture IP too. Also, a sneaky thing some people do is post a youtube video from their own channel. When  you go there, it gets your IP. 

Most of that is harmless unless the person is a little unhinged. Which, this person has way too much free time, or needs their meds, I think.

School is out for the summer, things always get worse in SL around then, until into September when it's settled down again and kids are busy back in school. I don't have anything against kids, we were all kids once and all. But it happens every year, and it is just a fact. Bored unsupervised kids will cause some mischief where they can. From his language and how easy it was to flip his switch he sounds like a kid to me.
