  1. The 96m disqualifier is an odd one since it's not necessary for permissions calls, but IS necessary for sensors. What happens if you're both on adjoining sims (but within that range)? Does it work?
  2. It's probably not a scam, SL Marketplace is buggy since the latest release (I'm sure there's other posts mimicking your problems) and many deliveries are failing or taking up to 2-3 days to complete. If you haven't received a failure message yet you may want to keep waiting. Merchants are possibly overloaded with dealing with each enquiry, and not everyone is able to log in every day. Good luck! Editted to Add: It looks like the creator is responding to redeliveries to other failed products (I checked his my.secondlife.com profile), so you may want to try posting on his feed or sending him a notecard.
  3. When it's too dark to see and instead of looking for a light-switch you try to override the sun.
  4. Some sculpt-related data: Sculpts were made official on 23 May 2007, coinciding with SL v1.16.0 Nicholaz' Viewer (the first TPV that I can remember) was released on 2 June 2007, and based off of an already-sculpt-compatible v1.16.0 http://secondlife.wikia.com/wiki/Version_1.16.0 http://nicholaz-beresford.blogspot.com/2007/06/release-day-nicholaz-edition-16e.html ETA: Meant to reply to the OP. This is just general information for those interested, and not directed at anyone in particular
  5. But.. then how will we know that we need to upgrade? :matte-motes-nerdy: There'll be no indication of mesh ever having hit the grid, and we will have to assume that people are running around naked because someone told them they're wearing some new kind of cloth sold to them by a cunning trickster! There'll be anarchy in the streets! Everyone will start criticising everyone elses invisible fashion-sense.
  6. llGetInventoryCreator can also be a good way to check/limit who's dropping items. You can cycle through the whole object inventory, or just check the new items for ownership. Not a perfect solution by any means, though, since it's easily misled. ETA: Using it in combination with llAllowInventoryDrop/Touch as suggested above might actually make it more practical, since you could check the keys match, so the inventorycreator would match detectedkey.
  7. TriJin Bade wrote: They've been saying it for years... no result. Well, then I guess good luck saying it again. May yours be the straw that breaks the camel's back.
  8. I think they get it, Group Chat's been on the books for a long time. ETA: Source is SLCC 2010
  9. There's no business associated with your listing. Are you hiring for 'private' sessions, or commercial? Do you represent a company? Your account was registered today (08.26.11), from which many people will assume you're either new, or disguising yourself or your business. Either way, this doesn't read like a trustworthy employment ad. More information is always better than less.
  10. Peewee Musytari wrote: the scenario the OP described of someone IM`ing a second after she logs on, makes me think it is not someone using a viewer that shows online status Thanks. In my haste I'd forgotten that Melita said these people weren't on her friends list. TPVs can show true status in the Friends list (which would show online/offline notifications based on true status), but obviously that doesn't apply for non-friends. I agree with you that scripts (in one form or another) were most definitely the cause. Rude people will be rude, with or without gadgets. I agree with this, absolutely.
  11. Peewee Musytari wrote: That would have to be a scripted gadget. They usually scan at regular intervals such as every 10 mins or whatever, but I guess you could set one to scan every minute if you were that desperate to talk to someone lol There is an online service that advertises the ability to get in touch with SL users by showing true online status (my belief is that it polls once, but in real-time). Considering that this thread is aimed at privacy, I'm reluctant to post the URI. Between that and some third party viewers that use LSL bridges for the same purpose, it's unfortunately not too hard at all to bypass even the basic privacy controls that we're given in-world. My personal assumption is that privacy was something that SL isn't capable of by design. Humans however have a fully functioning understanding of privacy, and those that pretend otherwise have no place in my SL.
  12. Using the Edit tool on 'Select' mode allows you to drag a box around mulitiple prims, much like selecting multiple files in folders or multiple icons on your desktop. Be careful though, as the selection box selects all objects 'inside' it, up to the maximum viewable range of your viewer. For best results aim 'upward' towards the sky and also turn on 'Select only my objects' from the Build menu. Editted to add: you can also check the number-of-primitives in the selection you make, to check you're only getting the micro-prims. Good luck! :smileyvery-happy:
  13. Knowl Paine wrote: Urban Dictionary: newb A term used to describe a inexperienced gamer/person/etc. Unlike a noob, a newb is someone who actually wants to get better. Urban Dictionary: noob 1. noob Someone who does not know how the world works, what is going on, or anything. They aren't as new as annoying. A newbie is someone new but isn't an idiot. One minor point missing from your definition is that Newbie/Newb is traditionally used from an angle of being 'understanding' or used with the intention of helpfulness, whereas Noob is more derogatory.
  14. Life 2.0 is a pretty largescale production, sadly I've never had the good fortune of seeing it. Not living in the US, I'll likely miss it this time around too. http://www.life2movie.com/ is the official link to the movie site + trailer and associated info, for those interested. The story's pretty interesting, though it's focussed around people who have complications in their Second Lives, and that can be a bit distorting. Regarding the comments... yeah. This is how SL's seen outside on the wider Internet. It's fairly normal. I love it regardless. ETA: Ralph Pootawn features in the comments. +1
  15. Ashlyn Voir wrote: I don't mean to offend anyone with this statement, but I understand that the concept of SL is that you can be whoever you want to be and while that is great and all, I also understood that your avatar is also a virtual representation of the RL you. I designed my avatar many times to the point where it didn't really feel like who I was and then eventually I designed my avi to be just like who I am. Thanks for your response. I apologise for the slight de-rail that took place in your absence. I remember a line from the first Matrix film "A digital representation of your physical self". I think that anything a person creates will reflect that person's nature, regardless of how close to being accurate it is to being realistic. That said, it seems to me that you've put a lot of effort into your appearance, even in making it reflect yourself; something most residents love to see. I agree with Ishtara's comments, that perhaps you've just been unlucky in your search so far? While I can't speak for Trans people, I do find many of them integrate very well within SL, so it's definitely possible. I, too, would recommend Ishtara's beach as a place to perhaps feel more secure. There's many others too, I'm sure. Would you mind people posting more SLURLs? Is there any community you're especially seeking acceptance within?
  16. I'm sorry that you took offence. I added the smiley for a reason? Additionally, (and to stay on topic) 'walking away' is often not-literal. To 'walk away' from a disgreement, for example. I agree that more details would be nice, but I feel making assumptions when dealing with perceived discrimination is... unwise.
  17. Randall Ahren wrote: Don't you think it would be a bit odd if I introduced myself to someone by saying "Hi, I'm a hetero male, how about you?". Your comment would make sense if that's what Ashlyn was doing. However she didn't say that it's something she does immediately, but rather:- Ashlyn Voir wrote: I try to spark conversations and such, but it seems that once people find out that I'm trans, they walk away. This implies there's a delay between the 'Hi' and 'I'm a...'. Thanks for playing. :smileyvery-happy:
  18. Hugs. I think that in RL, people are more apologetic towards each other about who they are. They wear normal clothes and normal shoes, aiming for normalcy. Things are different in SL - and I'd say for the better - there's no need for that theatre. The downside is that SL is still quite small, and so those lying on the fringe can find themselves having to play those games still. You sound neat, though. ETA: I've been playing with a thought experiment:- Assume people in SL start off with an 'idealised' version of themselves, with an assumed 'attraction rate' of ~100% People then deviate from this with small quirks; a wider face, rounder hips, longer thighs. Each of these changes lowers the attraction rate slightly, and makes them appear more 'niche' and although less ideally perfect, more like their internal vision. The number of quirks people add varies, depending on how low they think they can safely push their attraction rate. While people who use a lot of quirks (perhaps copying RL completely) appear less idealised (and the attraction rate drops), it tends to lead to being more comfortable, but considerably more 'niche'. Food for thought, perhaps.
  19. Good luck! 'style' attributes allow people to input CSS to make HTML-based elements look better. It's likely these commands are disabled in the forum to prevent people abusing CSS tricks (hiding elements, backgrounds), and standardise the forum's layout. Hope that helps =]
  20. TEST TABLE ONE CELL<table border="0" cellspacing="0"> <tr> <td width="232" height="17">TEST TABLE ONE CELL</td> </tr> </table> --- It looks like the bit that it objects to is the 'style' attribute within the <td> tag, and associated arguments.
  21. That's some bizarre HTML. I'm not familiar with the 'frame' or 'rules' attributes inside of <table...>. I can't imagine them doing anything to the layout of your tables. The <colgroup> tag seems unusual to me too. All you need in a HTML table is <table>, <tr> and <td> tags. (I'm unsure how much experience you have with HTML) Try simplifying them a little? It's likely Lithium doesn't like one or more of those unusual elements.
  22. Nope. There's only one level for water, and it's sim-wide. Though you could do it by building a cavern above the water, and hiding it inside a hill, as shown below. http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6150/5954765466_2a0096675a_b.jpg Courtesy of Penny Patton.
  23. Randall Ahren wrote: My solution will work. You really don't have a solution other than to find one from information at the posted links. In comparison to something that doesn't work, a working solution that provides redundant startup modes is not backwards. My solution is to discover the root cause of the issue via diagnosis and eventual troubleshooting, without forcing the user to return to an unsupported operating system. Windows XP is over a decade old, and completely different to Windows 7; any solution you find will be unable to migrate to Windows 7. Abort/Retry/Fail.
  24. Offering Windows XP is a backwards solution that will create more problems than solutions. SL works just fine on Windows 7. BroLLy. you can find alternative viewers (including 1.23, if you think that will help) here: http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Linden_Lab_Official:Alternate_Viewers It's impossible to guess what your problem could be from the provided screenshot; it could be anything from unresponsive hardware, to system permissions trouble or perhaps, failing to have OpenGL working. This SL resident's blog has some handy tips: http://blog.nalates.net/2010/11/04/second-life-viewer-crashes-while-starting/ Especially, see if you can retrieve the Crash Log file, it may give real clues:- http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Debug_Help#Where_do_I_find_my_SecondLife.log_file.3F
