Ziggy21 Slade wrote: Since the answer to every question ever posted in any forum anywhere ultimately can be found by searching Google, its safe to assume that forum users posing questions have either exhausted the Google option or have opted to use a different approach. I've never found this to be the case. Suggest you go look at the thousands of "Help I'm a cloud" threads. The OP didn't mention a where, or why. (Didn't even post a question, just a statement.) He didn't ask for SL users that speak Korean to help, and he posted into General Discussion. If he was truely after anything constructive, would've posted into Wanted. Thanks for continuing the derail however, otherwise I'd have to think of something constructive to be typing here.

As my environment/world need is totally different then what available on server. Is there any one who also think that it is impossible? KatKaif The range of available 'looks' for Second Life sims is limited only by your imagination and your wallet. If you want to create 'your world' here, then that is most likely achievable. However you cannot change the arcitecture of the world, for reasons explained above. 'Right' doesn't enter into it.
  5. Er? No is the easy answer. The 'world' in SL runs on servers owned and operated by Linden Lab. The users of Second Life get no 'administrative' access to the physical machines, cannot dictate what software runs on the servers, etc. I am unfamiliar with Unity3D. If you have built models you can upload them to SL for a cost, but rezzing them in-world will cost you L$ or US Dollars. It won't be free. Hope that helps.
  6. Glad you've found a solution. If it does end up being your Malware or Anti-Virus program, you can always create a 'Rule' permitting full access to your system by SL, and that will bypass the restrictions. I would avoid Lighting and Shadows for the moment. Enabling Deferred Rendering loads a heavy, high graphics engine for viewing SL. To get it working (assuming your hardware can handle it) it's best to enable these options after the program is loaded, but before clicking 'Log In'.
  7. Qie Niangao wrote: very direct competitive assault on SL's main differentiator, user-generated content I disagree with this. Granted - like IMVU - Cloud Party is fun for people who like to shop, but I don't see it stealing many creators 'for keeps'. As far as I understand it, there's no land economy and no significant user-side scripting. The options for content creation are solitary and off-world. I can't see Cloud Party being a draw for people who want to 'sandbox'. I also don't see it as very competitive, since it doesn't draw people AWAY from SL at all; people can easily do both (as has thus far been the majority case with OpenSim). Qie Niangao wrote: Given the mass of Facebook users, This isn't an issue, for reasons given in this thread previously. Mass != inertia. Qie Niangao wrote: with creators able to migrate their every Mesh item from SL to CP at the push of a button 'Every mesh item' right now is not very many, compared to those made using prims and LSL. The ability to export won't be a very considerable benefit until this ratio changes. Edited because Lithium.
  8. Certainly sounds curious. Assuming you have Administrator permissions on your PC it should launch when double-clicked. Further steps would be to try temporarily disabling Anti-Malware and Anti-Virus on your PC and try again, but do this only at your own risk. Not sure I can help further; it's not an issue I've encountered. It does seem however, that something is preventing it from running.
  9. Not a bad machine. Are you using the standard LL viewer available from http://get.secondlife.com ? Press Ctrl+Alt+Delete and select Start Task Manager and go to the Processes tab. Look for any instances of Secondlife.exe, SLvoice.exe, SLplugin.exe. If any are in the list already, close them and re-try launching. Post anything unusual that you find.
  10. Restart/reboot the PC and try again. Assuming you're running Windows 7, try running it with Administrator permissions. (Right-Click on the icon > Run as Administrator) Post your PC's operating envrironment to get more specific information. Post any error messages to give a clearer image of the fault.
  11. Another solution might be using the Private Messages option with the SL 'Feeds':- http://my.secondlife.com By sending messages to your friends from this interface, you won't be able to chat in 'real time'; but it's something. And it doesn't require any third-party apps/access.
  12. Advanced Menu > Show Debug Settings > Enter 'CloseChatOnReturn' and set to FALSE May also help, if you chat frequently and/or don't want to lose focus on the chat bar between sentences.
  13. Are you wearing it? If so, rez it on the ground and then try again. There are two bugs that may be at work here:- 1. The 'Editting Mesh While Worn' bug, which will crash you and as far as I know present in all viewers. 2. The 'Viewing Mesh with 32-bit (alpha) textures on surfaces' bug, which will also crash you and is in a smaller sub-set of viewers. If the second issue seems more likely, you may need to use a different viewer.

As I say, it's mostly misunderstandings like this that cause abusively-powerful Facelights to exist in the first place.

  16. Ceka Cianci wrote: http://forums-archive.secondlife.com/327/a3/250865/1.html Mostly accurate for the time. PC technology has advanced significantly since and the 'high end systems' are now 'average systems', etc. 'Sun + Moon' is the lowest setting using L&S. As I said above, L&S allows between 2 and infinite lightsources.
  17. Ceka Cianci wrote: i remember it being an LL change not a client side change though..i'd have to look up the old thread in the archives to really remember what it was about.. I don't follow; all light-rendering is client-side. Suggest you check your sources. LL's Lighting and Shadow's engine replaced the default OpenGL-style shading (known in the viewer as Advanced Shaders), which was limited to 8 light-sources (2 being reserved for sun/moon). L&S doesn't use the old OpenGL commands, instead using a more typical approach to render as many lights as are within view. There are three rendering systems at work:- Basic Shaders (LL viewer circa 2003) - One lightsource, global light. Facelights don't work and neither does Windlight/advanced prim features such as lights or glow.. Advanced Shaders (LL viewer circa 2008) - Limited to 8 'basic' orb lightsources max, as described above. Windlight works, as does glow, shiny and bump. Lighting and Shadows (LL viewer circa 2010/2011) - 2 to infinite lightsources. Also allows spotlights, textured-lights, shadows. Windlight glow/shiny/facelights all work, also. The disparities between these engines is what's causing 99% of the technical issues with Facelights. The largest problem with Facelights remains cultural.
  18. Ceka Cianci wrote: i thought we were dropped down to only 2 lights from 6? There are now infinite lights available. 6 is the old limit, used by older hardware. Modern PCs will see as many lights are there are within viewable distance.
  19. tilly Kiranov wrote: it has the might of Facebook behind it Misleading. Facebook auth doesn't imply it has access to whole Facebook userbase. There's no 'might', behind using Facebook verification to pass login info. This app isnt' being 'showcased' by Facebook in any special way, nor is Facebook supplying anything special or unique to this app, vs. any other. Additionally, the Facebook userbase may well 'throw this back'; there's nothing to show that any of the Facebook userbase has any established interest in Avatarian culture. In fact, the contrary is probably true. I'm not interested in Cloud Party; it fulfills none of my criteria for being a useful place for me to socialise or create. I don't know who the audience for this geek toy is, but it isn't me.
  20. It's not optional now. No new users get a surname other than 'Resident' (which isn't a surname, it's a placeholder that is only used by old/non-updated scripts). The users that have surnames, are older users (created when surnames were part of the system).

Your user account only guarantees the rights the service provider allows you, within their system, and may be withdrawn at any point without warning or consent.
  22. Sorry Storm, I'm not sure if you agreed with my reply while it was empty or not. You may want to clarify which parts you're agreeing with, or at least review. =]
  23. Penny Patton wrote: All of these issues contribute to why people feel so strongly about whether or not others are wearing nose lamps. I agree with you, too. I'm aware of these issues and that's why I choose to only wear attached lights when I feel they're necessary. There's a very obvious line between 'tasteful' and 'abusive' facelights; the case for not liking abusive ones is very strong, I doubt any will disagree with you. However, as I said, that's what mute/derender are for. All of your examples are evidence of people abusing system resources or at least a lack of understanding the resources that are available. If they're your friends, or they're on your land (or you're otherwise invested in their development) then I'm sure it's suitable to talk to them politely and explain the limitations of the system. Otherwise, who cares? Why make any issue of it? The bile contained in the OP's post (and 99% of every other facelight criticisms I've heard) is completely unnecessary and counter-productive to the de-face-lighten-enlightenment effort. The fact that there's 'drama' over this issue at all proves that the people doing the enlightening are failing. If it's abusive, mute/derender and move on. It never became anyone's responsibility to police this issue, and nor should it.
