  1. Considering only the "max allowed" math, I have always used a spreadsheet to keep track of this and in 14 years, it has always matched the Linden accounting. I (and my alts) contribute all their tier (included and purchased) to a single land group. The simple equation is sum(contributed tier) * 1.1 = max allowed I typically use the "buy for group" option when purchasing.
  2. A viewpoint from one who organizes group events… In the sailing community, we have many events that repeat on a weekly basis and event times tend to get fixed at a certain SLT. Participants attend the events having times that work for them. Organizers are not usually concerned with the time zones of individuals. Rather, they might be thinking about countries or geographical regions.
  3. Second Life has evolved over the last 20 years to be a small virtual world that requires considerable investment in time and money by the residents. It is privately held and the owners are operating it so as to be profitable, which is the only reason it still exists. It is hard for new residents to figure out how basic things work. Many come here but very few stay. This is not something that can be fixed by branding.
  4. I am the person that buys the Hallowe'en stuff. Please Sir, I want some more.
  5. Going back to the OP, I would like to challenge the assumptions. 1. "a lot of people" do not "play" Second Life. At any given time, the number of people inworld would easily fit into an outdoor sports stadium. Is there any evidence that a significant number of these people are in SL to "try to find their significant other"? Second Life does not have a specified objective. Anecdotally, we each find our own joy. 2. Linden Lab "makes bank off land" but this has nothing to do with dating. 3. Second Life hardly does "adult marketing". One could argue that it doesn't do any effective marketing. Linden Labs has provided a rating system for regions and has rules concerning adult content, but I assume this is related to legal exposure and minimizing bad press.
  6. If you have a box that contains items, and you have transfer and copy perms on all that stuff.... except for one item (the shoes) in the box where you do not have a copy perm... THEN when you transfer the box using a script (llGiveInventory), it all gets copied and transferred EXCEPT that one item, which is transferred but NOT copied. So the first purchaser gets the shoes. The subsequent purchasers get the box without shoes because the seller no longer has shoes in the box that is being sold. Here is a note in llGetInventory that explains the first part of this scenario. "If inventory is no-copy it is transfered to destination without copying it. Since it is no-copy the only copy is given to destination; removing it from the source prim's inventory. " So the seller thinks all is well because shoes WERE initially put in the box.
  7. Sounds like a case of the creator originally putting “no copy” shoes in the box (they were not full perm to the creator) and subsequent failure to diagnose and correct the error. Continuing to poke them might eventually work, maybe. This sort of thing is unfortunate, sorry.
  8. Just double checking… did you rez the box on the ground and edit it and look on the contents tab OR did you rez the box and touch it and then look at the folder it created in your inventory? Do the first thing to really make sure it is not in the box.
  9. Concerning the new game of homes they say "Whether you're on your computer, tablet, or smartphone, you can now view and select from all Linden Homes. " My takeaway is that they are simply making the current selection page more accessible. A "higher value" improvement would be to show you a list of specific parcels that are currently available. This would enhance the Premium Plus perk of "select your parcel" and would give Premium members an indication of whether it would be a waste of time to roll the dice.
  10. Thank you for giving us more information about yourself and your project. The issue concerning losing our digital goods is of interest to me. My understanding is that years ago, Linden Lab established a policy of allowing creators to retain IP rights to their uploaded creations. However, these rights are not exclusive and LL, of course, gets full rights to everything uploaded. This perhaps means that Linden Lab (or a successor owner) could shut down Second Life but retain our creations as their property (for who knows what purpose but training an AI model comes to mind). BTW, when I saw the phrase "veterans" in your question "Any veterans willing to be interviewed?", my first thought was that you were seeking military veterans. Of course, you were not but that is just how I read it. New residents in Second Life are typically called "noobs" or "newbies" and the older ones sometimes refer to themselves as "oldies" or "oldbies" or something like that. Some of us feel like "crypt keepers".
  11. The issue that concerns me is how this type of thread is moderated, not the actual content. If the OP had said, "I just joined SL and am curious about how much $ this will cost?", that seems innocuous. But if a day-one avatar presents as a researcher and appears to have poor research methodology, them some posters will question that. This can invoke moderation and lead to posts being deleted which can be perceived as unfair. This actually happened recently.
  12. Please refrain from ad hominem attacks. This forum is maintained by a private company who has very specific ideas on appropriate content. I suggest it is valid to discuss those rules. I believe LL created this forum for residents to discuss SL topics. LL has a different process for actual journalists/academics/researchers.
  13. I have asked @Tommy Linden to ban threads doing “research” or “data collection” as they create drama because some of us challenge the OPs and then moderators get involved because they are asked to ensure that we are courteous. Tommy is not biting so I will just ignore these type of threads. My opinion is that only anecdotal info can be collected and we cannot know for sure who is doing the collecting. Sample size is tiny, sample bias is likely high, and it is not possible to cut the data demographically.
  14. On a related topic... one might ask what are the benefits of organizing your land as one parcel versus multiple parcels. Note that this does not effect LI availability as long as the parcels are in the same region. "One parcel" allows ease of administration as you set parcel attributes once and they apply everywhere. "Multiple parcels" allows you to have different attributes in different places. This is what I like. My parcels vary with respect to rez rights and autoreturn, avatar visibility, music stream, default teleport location, parcel name, and parcel profile picture.
  15. I do the same... I make a long name that may reference head/body/shape, date, style, and/or key apparel. Then I use search to find things. Because I enjoy it, I also have all my stuff cataloged on my hard drive and I can easily find things visually with a thumbnail program. If I see something, such as a particular pair of shoes, I can use search to find the outfits where I wore them.
  16. In my case there is a “chilling effect.” As I own numerous yachts in Second Life which cost tens of dollars, I have no need to purchase the same in RL, decreasing my country’s GDP by millions.
  17. This thread was also started by the original poster. it mentions an avatar boyfriend. Earlier today I checked the OP’s inworld profile. It was completely blank.
  18. I am thinking the original posters posts are AI generated. Longer responses are coming quickly and they are word salads and stating obvious things.
  19. Also found it in Preferences>Graphics>Rendering
  20. I wear + FACELIGHT LeLUTKA Low and recently noticed that it no longer lights my face or anything else. I use viewer Firestorm 6.6.14 (69596). As a test, I made a small prim and checked Light on the Features tab... this lights me up. However, when I attach the same prim (to my left ear), no light at all. What happened? Is there some new feature somewhere that disables attached lights? Thanks in advance for any help.
  21. Going back to the OP... I have only my own experience on this topic... no study or research. I google it a bit and found two items that align with my thoughts. For the record, I have zero experience on any online dating platform. Reasonable expectations... Unreasonable expectations...
  22. Seems unusual for mainland. There are private estates that are connected to mainland where there are yellow parcels with no tag. In the Land tool (About Land), check the Covenant tab and make sure it says Estate: mainland. If so and you still do not see a tag, you might file a support ticket. If you wish, IM me the SLURL and I will check if I see a tag.
  23. When you set your land for sale, the World Map will eventually show the parcel in yellow with a little clickable tag that gives info. If you want a For Sale sign you have to make that yourself by constructing the "sky sign" out of prims and positioning it around 300m altitude (there is a max altitude but not sure what it is). Usually this is done for rentals and to advertise things. It is really NOT necessary for selling parcels, as the yellow parcel and tag indicate that the parcel is for sale. If you really want to make a sky sign, fly up to one inworld and notice how its made. The letters must be actual prims... textures don't work. Also, the sky sign will not show up until the world map "refreshes" and that may take a day or two. In case you simply wanted an inworld for sale sign at ground level such as this t then save the image below to your hard drive, upload this texture to Second Life, rez a cube, texture the faces with the uploaded texture, resize and position the cube. Voila!
