There was no mass exodus in 2008-2010. There has never been a mass exodus. There was a rash of creators who left SL in 2005/6 because of a change on the TOS. Mainland has been pretty much dead since then. Once LL open up the ability to purchase "private estates" and the land barons pounced, that was pretty much all she wrote for mainland. My only question is: Were the login issues on October 28, 2018 due to a DDoS attack?

I've seen this type of behavior many times in SL and it was never due to a DDoS attack (eta: with the exception of last February). Sometimes the issues are system wide, sometimes they only affected certain aspects/areas as was the case yesterday. Although SL does get hit with numerous DDoS attacks they are mostly unnoticeable to residents. If this had been a real DDoS attack not even I would not have been able to log in, much less stay logged in from around 7:30am SLT until 10:30pm SLT yesterday. I would have gotten booted at least once at some point. That never happened. Another thing to consider is how much people can afford to pay for a DDoS service of the magnitude it would require to bring something like SL to its knees. While prices do vary, it still isn't cheap and most of the "script kiddies" can't afford to pay what it would take to actually shut the grid down. We're talking approximately $20 USD per HOUR. There was one worse than that in 2005. One of the updates buggered things up so badly the grid was down for almost a week.

I've been rezzing stuff in all morning and haven't had any issues outside of the norm. And still haven't been logged out. Seems to be only certain servers are being affected.

Ya think? lol I've been an SL resident since 2004 and an Oregon resident since 2006. Not to mention having been on the FS support team for 5 years. I think I noticed.
