  1. Closed and deleted would be better. Worst thread title and topic I have seen in a long time. But it's evolving into something good, Jay. People are discussing optimal ways of relating to each other.
  2. Good point, and I actually do see one such person. Not a griefer, but someone who hangs around the community frequently and advertises herself as a succubus. She appears to be leaving the dark side now.
  3. Oh no! The customer might use the product they purchased how they want to use it, and not how I want them to use it! How evil! You need to consider what the merchant intends for the item -- they often set various parameters around anything they sell and sometimes need to choose what's best for their business overall. For example, if they want to use a huge number of their landscaping items in a design and are willing to do that at a greatly reduced price if it's not mod and the parts can't be utilized individually then this is one of their offerings and they should be respected and not labeled as "greedy", "egotistical", or "inattentive to customer needs". The design of the compilation is the focus in such an item, and not the individual parts. I do think this is what Codex is referencing.
  4. Some think when you 'turn the other cheek' that you've lost power and so to regain power they must attack back in an even better way...really 'get' the other person, win the battle. In reality, the most powerful response is to not respond at all (to turn the other cheek when attacked). It actually requires much strength to do so in many cases.
  5. To reflect a bit more on your question...a very odd thing happens in SL related to the "disagreeable people" in SL (or the SL forum) Gopi is pondering on. I do a spiritual practice in SL named 'Kirtan' where we design an experience with music, dance, and text to feel a greater sense of love (Bhakti Yoga). Frequently, these very odd people enter and try to grief or disrupt the event, dressed in all black with additional menacing attire (weapons, sharp objects), attempting to look and act 'scary'. Sometimes they have RL pics of themselves in their profiles and they have these 'Charles Manson creepy eyes'. They often stand in front of the Kirtan leader in a confrontational manner, or sometimes glom themselves onto the back of an avatar. A few weeks ago someone started the dance circle moving I was attached to and so one was dislodged from me. So, I see that when you focus on love there is a certain percentage of people who are compelled to ruin it, disprove it, disagree with it. It's not all about a disagreeable person attracting someone disagreeable, but I do agree with you that sometimes this is the case.
  6. On reflection I wonder if as in how like attracts like, disagreeable people attract disagreeable people? If one is being attacked by disagreeable people, is it possible that one is attracting that to themselves by being disagreeable in some form? Hmmm...could be yes, or at least some of the time. All I know for sure is that when you don't respond in a disagreeable manner back the energy frequently dissipates. I think this might be a life lesson, or is for me anyway.
  7. Just a good test of who feels most uncomfortable with a silence and needs to break it by saying something inane. It is a great test in R/L. Scrolling up I saw the fighting and attacks against each other end after Gopi's apology, and then some though-provoking comments by Istel, Cinnamon, Sammy, Sid, Love, myself, Sabrina, and Kathlen...so not sure what you're referring to.
  8. All my stuff is mod so don't encounter this, but I can confirm that a certain percentage of people buy my assembled gardens and skyboxes so they can get a lot of items cheaply for repurposing. I feel somewhat guilty, as I use other people's full-perm meshes as well as my own in these compilations, and the customer is getting all of the individual items so cheaply. I try to rationalize the problem by hoping all their repurposed items provide some advertising out in the wild for the full-perm mesh creator. Plus, creating 'scenes' is my bliss and I don't want to give it up -- creating compilations, the design of it all, how everything fits together -- and I want to use the best content available (and that's not always my own, and I don't always have the time to make it myself).
  9. So true, and there are some who, in nearly every interaction with certain people they dislike or feel threatened by, make the interaction about "winning' via putting the other down as best they can.
  10. Interesting take -- yes I think often we do have expectations of others (an awareness of a transaction, as you say). Humans have a need to be understood and accepted by others -- the "currency". The trick, or what is likely to increase happiness in one's life, might be to seek the understanding one needs in optimal places. I don't think a forum in general is a good place to seek it, as seldom do we see the backstory of an individual, one that is often required so that we develop the empathy which leads to greater acceptance of them.
  11. Well I tell my little grandson his scribbles are very artistic...it inspires him...it's the best way to build confidence. At the very least say "oh my this is very unique", as I did when one unknown resident submitted their...highly unusual...creation to me with pride.
  12. What bothers me most...and I've seen it many times on this forum...is making fun of those "special little artist people who think their little creations are so wonderful"....basically denigrating what people create here. If their stuff is so un-special I have to wonder why the person condemning them wants the content in the first place! Likely it's jealousy plain and simple -- they couldn't create something artistic if their life depended on it.
  13. Sure. This isn't a moral issue. There are good reasons for the creation and use of premade backdrops. I don't think it's "unethical" to use (or create them). I just think it's boring -- and it does contribute to the sense one sometimes gets in SL of a sort of dull, consumerist monoculture, in which everyone wears the same mesh head, the same mesh body, the same popular hairstyle, and the same LBD So are all the backdrops no-mod? I've actually considered making some.. It's very time-consuming though -- you're developing an entirely new environment from scratch with custom mesh pieces and textures. Maybe not...
  14. That's my Rowan...the most important thing to do in a disagreement is to punish the one not on your side!
  15. The consumer in SL is at the bottom of the ladder the way the Lab runs this virtual world. Land barons first, creators second, and at bottom rung of the ladder is the consumer. Excuse me, working your fingers to the bone for low wages while consumers demand more from you isn't so high on the ladder.
  16. Right, so I don't know why the discussion and the claims made as to the intent of the creators of said products continues... It's all so simple. What is the goal for those that post further? What do they seek to accomplish or what changes would they like to see? Whiners I tell you, whiners. Almost ALL of my customers have been great, but many of those who don't create and are regulars on this forum come off as super-entitled and unappreciative of creators. What did we hear when word of a likely cash-out fee increase might come for us? We heard..."hey...what you get here is gravy compared to other platforms". No respect for our hard work most earn very little for. No concern for us at all and only a demand for more more more while we earn less less less. So yeah, not so supportive to the consumers who frequent this forum, to put it mildly.
  17. Does that not apply to the creators who are staking their proprietary rights over their content as well? Pretty sure it does. All my mesh is stored on my PC.
  18. Which is precisely why I almost never use commercial backdrops anymore. I don't think that anyone has asked for "total control" though. Tinting or resizing something, which is probably 95% of the actual modifications people make to items, are hardly that? I've never purchased those, but I can imagine why they do that. All the individual pieces that make up a backdrop should be quite expensive when sold individually (if a complex one), yet they can provide a cheap version, an assembled product, at a much cheaper price. This is a good business decision, although they could provide a mod one at a much higher price for someone like yourself to cover the market better.
  19. BAd news for ya...you never own digital content here...you have a license to use it. Look it up.
  20. Create the stuff yourselves if you want total control of it, ya lazybones!! LOL
  21. /me heads back to her nature park, hoping another customer/visitor doesn't drop by again to inform her that the water she chose for the park is 'too blue'. tata
  22. Is SL reality the same as the reality outside it? No, bad comparison, apples to oranges.
