  1. What I would really like to see is the mesh... Depending on how you made the mesh you may have a seam with a row of double vertices, or a crease. You may also not have the adjoining polys sharing the same vertces. Try selecting a single poly along the edges of the problem polygon. Move it and see if the faces are really joined.
  2. Look through Troubleshoot Your #SL Connection It explains how to tell if it is you, your ISP, SL, or the region. If a region is lagging you can get false Packet Loss and Ping values from the Viewer Statistics. With the collection of data you'll know whether to report to SL or your ISP. If you find it is the ISP, get a friend to collect the same information, presumably they are not having a problem, and include it with your information to show the contrast. You problem with an ISP is getting to teir two support. If you can get the info to second level and there is an ISP or backbone problem they will recognize it and you'll have a chance to get it fixed.
  3. When you ask a tech question include information about your computer and viewer. If the viewer will at least show the login screen, get the info from the viewer's Help-About... and paste that into your post with your question. To add your info to an existing question use OPTIONS->EDIT. It’s in the upper right of your post.
  4. You can get a free program CPU-Z that will tell you all the tech info about your CPU. Most important is the SOCKET type. If you have a LGA775 type socket, you can upgrade the CPU. The LGA775 socket came out in 2000, I think. If you have a LGA775 then look on eBay for a Core2 Quad. Find the fastest one. There are a couple of different models. The difference in cost is from the speed of the chips, ranging from 2.4 to 3.2 Mhz. That's from memory, so... The Core2 chips have SSE1, 2, 3, 3s support depending on their release date. Depending the chip you have now, you may need to add a better heat sink and cooling fan for the CPU. Also CPU-Z will tell yo about your motherboard. Check the specs to see what it supports. The l o n g story on upgrading is here: How To get a Faster Second Life
  5. I can change the viewer to drop AA and several other features and push tasks off to the GPU. If I let the viewer do the work, I run at about 6 to 25 FPS with the avarage in 8 to 13 FPS on HIGH with L&S, Ambiant, and Sun/Moon. If I do, I see the GPU running at 99%. I can leave all the graphics render process in the viewer and still get 6 to 25 w/6 to 13 avarage and the GPU bouncing between 20 and 60%. The overall render image and user interface is much better if I let the viewer handle the graphics. I'm puzzled because others with similar setups are running 30 - to 50 FPS. The only significant difference appears to be they are in Win7 - 64 bit. I've tried over clocking to push the CPU to 3Mhz. That gets me from 15 FPS to a weak 17 FPS and runs the box way hot. 6. So far I've only seen the Blog Announcement and some new functions in the LSL Wiki. The code is running in Magnum RC. Has anyone found anything more than that? Is this still a semi-closed beta now? #SL News Week 22 Advanced Experience Tools Preview llTeleportAgentGlobalCoords() Oskar added some information to this weeks Server Deploys: NOTE: the new LSL functions work with the current runtime permissions system and are precursor to future work with experience permissions. More information about the runtime permission is here:PERMISSION_TELEPORT. These functions only work on the RC regions and not grid wide.
  7. Describe a good user case and file a feature request in the JIRA.
  8. Game physics are calc'd on the server so there are no settings in the viewer for that. The viewer deals with Enhanced Avatar Physics... boobies, bellys, and butts bounce. You cantrol the amount of bounce by wearing a Physcis Layer. In Appearance or Edit My Shape or Appearance (right click on avatar) you can create a new Physics Layer and wear it and edit it. I haven't looked but I suspect you can buy premade physics layers in the market place. The V3 viewers have the same avatar appearance conrtols as the old V1 viewers did. They are just harder to find. If you start trying to edit shape or appearance you'll intuitively end up in the right place.
  9. When you ask a tech question include information about your computer and viewer. Get the info from the viewer's Help-About... and paste that into your post with your question. To add your info to an existing question use OPTIONS->EDIT. It’s in the upper right of your post. The version of things you have installed is important. Without that we're guessing. Initializing the virtual file system is not likely to crash the viewer. But, once initialized the viewer starts trying to setup the 3D render system. That is more likely to crash the viewer. So, the Init VFS may be going off screen as the viewer crashes. You can look in the SecondLife.log. It is a plain text file. Look in c:\Users\[win_login_ID]\AppData\SecondLife\logs\. Start at the end and work backwards looking for errors and warnings. That may give you a clue as to what is going wrong. I'll assume you have checked your video driver for the latest version. Before logging in try going into Prefences and setting your graphics to LOW. Then try logging in. If that fails try clearing the viewer settings. (Rename the file: C:\Users\[win-login-ID]\AppData\SecondLife\user_settings\settings.xml). You might try the Beta version of the viewer, its on the download page.
  10. http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Technical/Why-do-I-keep-crashing-every-time-I-try-and-log-into-my-viewer/qaq-p/1551843 http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Avatar/My-avatar-isn-t-showing-up-on-screen-everyone-else-can-see-it/qaq-p/1446627 When you post the question over and over, we sort of give up on you... If the answers you were given are not working, post that in those threads. Then we easily know what didn't work and can move on to other solutions. http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Avatar/My-avatar-isn-t-showing-up-on-screen-everyone-else-can-see-it/qaq-p/1446627 Yours tendd to be problems caused by a poor connection.
  11. In case you don't know... It is also a good idea to back up complex builds. You can select items not in a linkset and save them. They come into inventory as coalesced objects.
  12. Peggy is probably right. You can open the SecondLife.log and look from the end working toward the beginning looking for errors and warnings. They may give youy some clue as to what's going wrong. To test a connection, use these steps: Troubleshoot Your #SL Connection
  13. No. A part of the problem is Intellectual Property Rights. If you are going to make money, even if it is just Linden Dollars, then the Lab and most of the users want to be able to track you down if you are found to be selling stolen goods. Too many people have abused the system. Pony up or forget it.
  14. That is usually a transient problem related to the region. Log into another regions and see if it corrects. If it doesn't, check your connection before you start trying tedious or drastic solutions. Use these step to find if there is a problem over looked by most other tests: Troubleshoot Your #SL Connection. Also when you ask a tech question include information about your computer and viewer. Get the info from the viewer's Help-About... and paste that into your post with your question. To add your info to an existing question use OPTIONS->EDIT. It’s in the upper right of your post.
  15. New is tough :matte-motes-tongue: There is a lot to learn. A quick way to find things is to open Inventory and click the RECENT tab. By default it considers recent as the current secession. You can however, click the gear icon near the bottom left of the inventory window and open the Search Filters panel. It will let you set the time frame for 'recent'. You can set it to hours, days, or weeks. The filters panel is handy for finding things in Inventory.
  16. It is likely the region you are trying to log into is down. Before you login, open Preferences (Ctrl-P) look on the General tab for Start Location. To the right enable Show at Login. This will open a destination field on the login screen. Type in Pooley or Furball and try logging in. Also, while you are in Preferences switch to the Graphics tab and switch to LOW settings. If there is an update affecting your graphics card, this should get you in. And... it may be your connection. There are hundreds of not thousands of devices between your computer and the SL servers. Any one of those could be failing or overloading. Conditions change by the millisecond. Run through the steps in Troubleshoot Your #SL Connection to find out if you, your ISP, a backbone provider, or SL has a problem.
  17. You are probably wearing some Alpha Layers. Open Appearance and look in current outfit. Look for Alpha Layers and take them off. If you have made a base nude outfit, meaning just basically skin, eyes, and shape select that to replace your current outfit. It is handy to have such an outfit to force off hidden attachments and Alpah Layers you've forgotten.
  18. Peggy provided the basic information and the common fix. If that does not solve your problem run through the stepps here: Troubleshoot Your #SL Connection. That will help you figure out where the problem is and who to contact.
  19. Thanks for explaining. :matte-motes-smile:
  20. When you say he bans you... that implies he has ownership in the land and the ability to ban you. He is within his right to do that. It is not a violation of the ToS. Hangout somewhere else. If he is just talking to the club/land owners and convinencing them to ban you... that is different and very unlikely. He may talk, but I can't see him being overly successful. Most club owners know the game of revenge and usually will not play the Pawn in that game. If you think he is making alts and doing things to get you banned, that too is unlikely. Regardless of what his alt's display name is, bans are by UUID. The land owner must pick the name from a list. The viewer then looks up that avatar's UUID to put in the ban list. It cannot be fooled by identincal or similar display names or even similar login names. So, it will be his alt's that get banned not you. You may be getting banned for other reasons. There are still some anti-copybot tools around and you may have been falsely ID's by them. Ask the owner that has banned you.
  21. When you ask a tech question include information about your computer and viewer. If the viewer will at least show the login screen, get the info from the viewer's Help-About... and paste that into your post with your question. To add your info to an existing question use OPTIONS->EDIT. It’s in the upper right of your post. Check that your computer meets the System Requirements | Second Life.
  22. Odd problem... There cannot be anything in the database that crashes the viewer. The Lab screens data coming into the database. Some new griefer thing might get in. But, soon the Lab will have a defense against it and filter it out. So, very unlikely it is an item. There are things that can be rezzed from inventory that will crash the viewer. But, just having them in inventory is not a problem. It may be an attachment on or near the avatar that is the spam problem. They can cause render, pointer, name resolution issues and other problems. Try setting your draw distance as low as possible, zero if your viewer allows it. Some items can take a bit to download. In the case of inventory, you are getting a list of UUID's as handles for connection to the items for download when you rez, not the actual items. So, you get some text and numbers and they make up your viewer side inventory. I hope this makes sense to you and explains why we doubt it is something in inventory. With friends lists, contacts, and other avatar name things you are getting information from another database... or databases. In a similar way the data is filtered and an unlikely source of the problem. A more likely problem is the size of the data download, the quantity of items. If you are having a connection problem, the additional time needed for the large inventory (yours is not all that large) may be allowing some packet lost to create problems. So, before you start ripping things apart, closely examine your connection. Troubleshoot Your #SL Connection. If your connection is OK, then move on to other fixes. There is nothing downloading from SL or a viewer crash that can disable your router. That you have to restart the router to get any connection suggests some hardware issue. I find that in 2008 some routers were having a problem (Netgear CVG834G with a wire) with SL. One of their solutions was to turn off VOICE. You can try disabling Voice before logging in. If that works it suggests a connection or hardware problem. Some routers provided by ISP's are modified for their network. They have different firmware than the retail versions of the model to allow their support teams to more easily troubleshoot. Those modifications can conflict with SL connecting. I doubt that is your problem as the other avatars can connect. I would check the temperature of the router. If it is running hot, it may be intermittently failing. You'll see packet loss if that is the case. Packet loss can be from other causes. If the router is hot, blow out the dust and get it where air can more easily circulate. When you ask a tech question include information about your computer and viewer. Get the info from the viewer's Help-About... and paste that into your post with your question. To add your info to an existing question use OPTIONS->EDIT. It’s in the upper right of your post. In this case include your router information. You may want to check whether there is a firmware update available for your model of router. You may want to add your information to VWR-6734. If you haven't posted bug reports, please read the instructions before posting. The issue remains unresolved because the Lindens cannot reproduce the problem and lack information specific enough. The issue is open and there are a few occurrences of the problem in 2011 and 2012. But, the problem appears to be on the client or ISP side. I doubt clearing the cache is going to help and may aggravate the problem. Before clearing the cache I suggest you log into Pooley, Furball, or any deserted empty region. My hope is the light load on the server may allow you inventory and name lists to download in a shorted time and reduce any errors slipping in from a connection problem. Keep your Viewer Statistics (Ctrl-Shift-1) open and watch for packet loss and long ping times.
  23. A combat game or two has noticed the problem with their weapons animations. They have sent out notices of the debug setting change too.
  24. Everyone is guessing at an answer because we know so little about your system. When you ask a tech question include information about your computer and viewer. Get the info from the viewer's Help-About... and paste that into your post with your question. To add your info to an existing question use OPTIONS->EDIT. It’s in the upper right of your post. If the general fix is not working, we need to know more about your system to say what the problem is.
