When an SL friend goes offline forever

Really sorry to hear that, Caity. Thanks for letting us know. He'll be missed. -
I couldn't possibly ignore this thread. Grabs a piece of pie and runs off.

You can still access your pics if you you manually add /snapshots after your name in the address bar.

Kelli May wrote: More annoyingly, there are posts where someone asks a question then goes on to act negatively, even abusively, when a reply is other than a straight answer. Far too many cries of "I didn't ask your opinion, I asked for help" and " if you are not interested in being part of the research, you are free to not respond". Excuse me. If you don't want it discussed, don't bring it to the Discussion forum. I like those posts. They are potential derail goldmines. -

Oh, I think every good forum *needs* its twits as much as it needs its twists. Especially when they're such twits that it's hard to tell if they're super earnest or just trolling. Is grudge RIC'ing still much of an issue? -

I'd QFT if I could remember how to quote here ;-) -
If he gets bombarded with flying penises (and I hope he does), I hope someone has the presence of mind to capture and Youtube it.

Yeah! That happened! Drake's panties are very nice.

Demure as ever, my steely eyed girl. I looked at your Marketplace, Drake, saw 26 pages and even after narrowing it down to Women's Apparel gave up. Photos are already bubbling in my mind. If you could send me a direct link that'd be great. Please and thanks!

Ummm.. Materials are already here.. Normal maps and Specular maps have been around for a while now. I made a scale mail bikini that looks like it is actual scales, yet is a flat mesh. Wants! Is that on the open market? It'd go well with my feathers.

I was also wondering about the word choice of 'cornholed' as opposed to 'cornfield'. Bahaha! -

Hahahahahaaa! If Jig returned to the forums, they would need to implement a punishment algorithm. No human could moderate her without a head exploding! -

LaskyaClaren wrote: The thing that struck me immediately was how very different the forum culture was on RA. The use of ResMods is one reason for that, I guess: it was certainly much more of a "Wild West," in some ways -- but there was also more confidence, I think, in the ability of the mods to shut down really nasty flame wars. Or perhaps we just had thicker skins? (Disclosure: I'm pretty sure I recognize "Blyss" by her posting style. Or maybe not. But the whole incident is ringing bells like mad, even though I don't think I was yet on the forums at that point.) The Wild West it was, especially on Fridays. After they switched to Jive and the RIC'ing was in full swing, that was the best way to get around the jumped up wanna be mods: post your outrageous thread at 5PM Friday PST and it could run wild until 9 AM Monday PST when it would promptly be deleted. I agree, there were thicker skins back then (as well as thicker thighs, of the linebacker variety). I know one reason some people left, beyond the predictably unpredictable moderation was the fear of not only being suspended from the forum, but being slapped with a concurrent inword suspension, or gasp, ban. I know that was the reason a well known forum poster (with whom Lasky and I, along with Ms Chippewa have a scandalous familial connection) bailed. -

Back when moderation was a matter of a tsk or a humph, heads sometimes ended up avatar butts. Now that we have entered the age of mesh, threads are deleted and warnings and worse rampant, heads are falling off avs and floating all around the grid. Maybe it is just an inevitable sign of the Second Life forum times and the current crop of mods are taking the analogy a little too far. PS Hiya girl, I recognize you, too :-) -

I forget how to quote, but, "Another interesting aspect, btw, is the conclusion that severe or heavy-handed moderation may actually increase "bad" behaviour" has been another theme in the forums. When moderation was light, or you got the odd CALM DOWN! email or BEHAVE! post in a thread, behavior was much better. The forum was busy, lively and filled with insightful, amusing, and sometimes naughty posters. Threads weren't deleted, bannings were rare, and no ones head fell off. -

Given the vagaries of the various incarnations of moderation in this forum, maybe the Lab already has a proprietary algorithm in place. -
