Well, for the record...you weren't the least liked on the forums as far as I was concerned. Feel better now? : ) : ) *waves to Ima*
  2. Having the right type of graphics card is more important than having dual cards. 1) First thing to do is check the system requirements. That will show not only the "minimum" but also the "recommended" system requirements. Note the graphics cards that are *recommended* for the OS you will be running. Look here: http://secondlife.com/support/system-requirements/ 2) Second thing to do is some reading and research. Here is an excellent article that tells about buying or upgrading your computer for maximum SL performance. (Note, even though the article dates from 2008, the information is top-notch and defiantly worth reading) That article explains what is important in a "gaming" computer. http://wildefirewalcott.blogspot.com/2008/07/buying-or-upgrading-computer-for-second.html 3) Article on reducing lag, which has good information: http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Lag 4) Graphics cards: http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Graphics-cards/ta-p/700073 5) Buying graphics cards: http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Buying_graphics_cards 6) Finally, here is a comprehensive article that reiterates some of my ideas, and adds additional information. (Recommended reading!) http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Choosing_a_computer
  3. I hope so! I'm 5'1" in RL and have always had a somewhat shorter SL avatar as that just feels like "me". But, even though I've made my SL avatar a ginoramus 5'5"....I'm still shorter than most other avatars. Once when Zindra first opened and people were raging about child avatars being on the adult continent...a pack of child avatars went to Zindra. At that time I was there exploring the newly opened continent..and a couple of the child avies spotted me and flew over to check me out. I think that they thought I was a child compadre...: )
  4. Go to: http://secondlife.com/ and log in. On far left column click on "Account" > "Billing Information" If your credit card information is on file, it will say "You have Credit Card billing information on file". If you don't see that, this is the page where you can add your credit card billing information. Or you can add PayPal if you wish. Once LL has confirmed your billing information, and it shows on that "Billing Information" page, you can purchase Lindens ($L).
  5. Hi Bethany. The link that you've posted for the Metaverse Tribune is not good. There appears to be some extra punctuation that crept in. (Also, there is no need to include the "www"...all you need is the actual address. Try this link instead: http://metaversetribune.com/
  6. Thank you for the links! Exploring SL is one of my favorite things.
  7. Just watched part one, and already hooked. I'm sending a link to a family member too. Thank you! (Sidenote: If I can figure out how to give Kudos...I'll give them to you : ) Edited to add: Hmm, the option for Kudos...seems to be gone? Odd.
  8. I've often helped newbies by giving out LM, freebies, and tips. I'm plagued with spontaneity, and usually just butt right in and start giving advice and landmarks. (But, since my avatar is not exactly Miss SL Glamour Girl...I'm not sure how well my help is received...hehe)

  10. Have you checked for all system requirements? http://secondlife.com/support/system-requirements/ The 10.4.11 was an update to Mac OS X Tiger (10.4) and was originally released on Nov of 2005, and updated to 10.4.11 on Nov 2007. I suggest you look and see what type of graphics card you have. The update to 10.4.11 is a softwate update and does not upgrade a graphics card. Are you on a Macbook? Macbooks before the 2008 models have graphic cards that are not compatible with SL.
  11. 1) Ok, first you need to understand that particles are displayed locally. That means each person's computer is showing them the particles, and as such, each person may see something different. (which reduces lag and server load) 2) You may have particles "turned off", and if so you will not see them. 3)You can turn particles "off" or "on" this way: "Particles are often used for environmental enhancements like fire and smoke as well as laser light shows. If you want to turn them off in Second Life Viewer 2, the solution is: Press Ctrl+Alt+d a new tab will appear, Advanced > Rendering types > High Lighting and Visibility > Hide Particles. In viewers that still function like Second Life viewer 1 the path is: View > Beacons > Hide Particles." http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Preferences-guide/ta-p/700131#Turning_off_particles
  12. It's a good thing. I experimented with putting media on a prim as soon as it was available, but I didn't take a video of it. But, there are numerous good videos that show media on a prim. Here are a few:
  13. Illusion Panache wrote: Good morning. For clothing with modify permission, is it possible to extract the fabric texture and export it to my computer in a form that can be edited in photoshop, then re-uploaded as modified clothing? Thank you for your answers. The other answers are correct in that it is "possible", but not unnecessarily "allowable". I suggest you send a message to the creator of the clothing and ask where they got the texture. It may be that the texture is one they purchased and they will provide you with the information to be able to acquire the same texture. Or, it could be that the clothing creator made the texture themselves, and if asked would be willing to share it with you for a fee. (or for free, who knows?) If you if like the clothing item, but just want a slightly modified version of the texture on the clothing, it's also possible that the creator would be willing to do the modifications and send you a new texture. So, send the creator a message, compliment their work, and ask...It does not hurt to ask. (Edited to add: Hmm, this format is odd. I did not see the answer that was posted right before mine when I started my response...and now that I've posted..there is a reply with a similar answer right before mine. (laughing) Oh well, it's good advice, so I'll let my answer stand too. Cheers to Bee above me : )
  14. Here is a list of ways to send messages to people in SL when you're not inworld. Read through the list on this link: http://www.vintfalken.com/not-in-second-life-and-still-talking-to-your-friends/ Here is "Second Messenger", a non-graphics text interface client: http://www.roccoangeloni.it/sm/index.php?title=Main_Page One of the latest additions to the list for contacting people inworld when you're not in SL, is the Sparkle APP for iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch. Here are two links that show it in action. http://techcrunch.com/2009/03/22/sparkle-the-iphone-gets-its-first-virtual-world-and-its-3d/ http://www.wonderhowto.com/how-to-use-sparkle-im-message-your-friends-second-life-your-iphone-395823/
  15. Well, isn't this interesting? A link posted for the new CEO to see, has been deleted by the forum "moderators". The thread has been deleted. Which is a small, but ironic example, of what that thread was discussing. @ Eio, Tazzie, Qie, and Mike. The thread was chock full of well-known creative SL business owners and content-creators discussing the suspension of someone. I will post a link to a thread that was started in commerce, around the same time I posted that link, which is now gone. Many of the same people are posting in this other thread...which at this time, is still available. http://blogs.secondlife.com/thread/59409?start=0&tstart=0
  16. Rod, if you want to see what some SL residents are experiencing, then click on the link to this thread in general discussion. http://blogs.secondlife.com/thread/59372?start=0&tstart=0 This is an example, of what happens, to SL residents. Dismal, or non-existent support, and discussing that fact is forbidden. The people in that thread are long-time residents, content creators, and land owners. They are SL customers.
  17. Nice bit of PR here. I like it. What with the toga, mail post, Lincoln Log cabin, and Huckleberry Finn raft...you're the Everyman. If your instincts are this good, it bodes well. Guess I'll stay tuned. : )
  18. No. The Islands are not connected. The reason you still see the "adjacent" Island after you teleport is that the data is still showing in your viewer. It's a delay in the transmission of data. I experimented with this phenomena a lot when I was new to SL. I would TP to and from Islands that were not actually connected on the grid...but they were near each other on the grid. I would then quickly turn back and see the previous Island. If the Islands were close on the big map (the grid) ...I could even quickly cam over to the other Island and touch things before the Island disappeared. My building partner & I tried experiments. One of us would place an object that would change color on touch. The other would TP off to another nearby...but not connected Island, and proceed to quickly cam back and touch the object making it change color. I could even take objects back to inventory this way, if done quickly enough. But, the effect only lasts briefly. (As you've discovered)
  19. If, as you stated, the home or skybox is modify....then check to see if any megaprims were used. Those cannot be resized without them shrinking to a standard size. If megaprims were used..and a resize attempted...then the whole build may end up out of whack. So, just check to make sure that any prims you want to scaledown...are regular prims. Or if megaprims were used...you could remove them and replace them with regular prims. Otherwise..yes. Resize it.
