  2. I've used voice at science/community related talks. Also, I do use voice in one-on-one conversations. I don't mind someone hearing my voice, and it's easier for me, as I'm a dismal speller and can't type worth a damn. But, I also like having the IM or chat log if I'm discussing building details or working on a project. So, really it depends on the situation. Having a group-voice-talk channel open while I was working on a build would drive me batty. The group chats can be inane enough...I sure don't want to hear all that inanity even if it follows a protocol.
  3. Damn. Randell beat me to it. Good grief....if this is your first day in SL...RUN...back to the account creation place and make a new account...with a better name. For the love of all things you might possibly want in SL or RL...calling yourself *stupid* is NOT going to help. Now, do that FIRST...make a new name. Then post back here in the exactly same place..and tell us. Now..GO!
  4. First object I purchased: Green eyes, and at the time they looked pretty realistic. I just recently bought new more realistic green eyes from the same creator, who is wonderful and on my friends list. I save $L from camping back in '07 to buy those first eyes. First personal object bought for me by someone else: My longtime building partner bought me my first prim hair. I knew what I wanted, and he and I TP'd into the fancy-shmacy shop and he gave me the $L..and TaDa! I had beautiful prim hair. But, I had resisted the idea...and resisted him paying for something that I would wear. So, the whole exchange and purchase was one that is a strong memory for me. First object I made: Was a prim that I rezzed in a LL sandbox to learn how to make prims. Just a random prim square. This was on day one for me in SL. (right after that some greifer guys caged me ...THREE freaking times! I was spitting mad!) First multi-prim object: I made a couch. Simple prims and free textures from my inventory. I sitll have that couch, and use it to sit when I rezz building platforms. I love that when I click on it, it has a created date within three days of my rezz-day. First notecard I made: I was so afraid of not remember how to build something, that I had just made, that I painstakingly put all the information from my little build onto a notecard. First Snapshot: A picture of my long-time building partner and I floating on our backs in a swimming pool, while he tried to explain the CADD like building process to me. He's a RL engineer and he tried his best to help me grasp the entire process. First Landmark: People had given me LMs. But, first one I think I made would have also been the Ivory Tower of Prims, as I was really trying to learn how to build. First clothing/outfit I made: I took a snapshot I had taken in SL and applied it as the texture to a system shirt I made, and did something similar for pants. So newbish..but, I loved that outfit! I currently have over 50K objects in my inventory and that is pared down from 55K. (yes, I've pared my inventory down many times...and it grow again)
  5. Randall Ahren wrote: So I clicked the drink and selected wear, whereupon my avatar walked over to the drink and went crazy trying to wear that drink. To avoid the craziness I think I'm going to have to script some code that moves the drink over to the avatar. Hmm, so you weren't near the drink? Well, yes that can end up being a bit of craziness. If this is a bar, I'd try this: Have seats (barstools whatever) that the avatar sits on. Then the drink can rezz in front of them, they click it to buy, and wear, etc. It should work then. I'll be inworld later this evening, and will play around with this. If you end up getting a good solution that works for you, post back here, I'd be interested in your results.
  6. @ Randall. (laughing for real... : ) That's exactly how the conversation went! Except, I actually like rats. @ Void....*shhhhh* I like to keep my haunts secret. (You're right about the map...the megas blotted out the shape of the island which was unique)
  7. Randall Ahren wrote: I like it. Excellent idea. I think I will try and implement it. I just need to do a little research into the requesting attach permissions. I suppose I need something like: Randall, you don't need to create a script to attach. Once the new object (cup or glass) is bought, all the avatar has to do is to click it and select "wear". If the object is close, it will automatically go onto/into the hand and be attached..and any drink scripts will be activated, etc. (btw, I just tested this with my alt to make sure it worked... My alt (and I ) with her coffee cup she just bought and clicked "wear" to have it go into her hand. (the animations activate as soon as it's worn)
  8. First, I want to say that you're not delusional. The emotions that each of us experiences, even if generated and experienced in SL,...are REAL. Emotions are a product of our minds, and the interactions with others in a virtual world such as SL, can create the same psychological and even physiological responses that happen in RL. It so happens that I too experienced a magical moment in SL last night. Here are some pictures: Here's a joyful bit...dancing on top of the Millennium Falcon: Now, I"ll give a little background on my next picture. I've spent most of my time in SL building, creating, exploring and learning. Very little socializing. I avoided SL relationships like the plague. I brushed off men, and ignored attempts by countless people to pull me into anything more than a working/creating relationship. Then one day, on the IEEE sim at a Robot Build Challenge, amongst a crowd of people, I received an IM from a stranger. As the opening IM was witty, I replied. This person, and I, exchanged banter and I eventually looked at his profile and found his avatar in the busy crowded sim. He had to log off soon after, and he asked if we should "friend" in order to be able to talk again. I agreed. The following weeks were a courtship of sorts, with both of us getting to know the other a little better each time we were together. It's a rare moment of bliss, when you find someone, with which you "click". He and I clicked. Here's a picture of one of those blissful moments:

When I see someone with a gibberish username I tend to ignore them on the assumption they're an idiot. Yes /\ This. Your name is your Brand. It's an identifier which transcends temporary physical changes. Btw, Ian, I like your avatar name. It evokes an aura of mystery, history and UK secret-agents
  11. Ian Undercroft wrote: Mmmm - very strange. I responded to this thread saying that the Forum Cartel Hangout is one of the few places in SL that I'd be nervous to visit and my post has now disappeared. It seems a little much that a comment like that is regarded as inappropriate. Surely members of the Forum Cartel are not that precious. Ian, it appears that your reply comment became collateral damage. (They aren't called a Cartel for nothing.. ; )
  12. I'm also replying to valerie in case they nuke my comments. There was no need to have that removed:( Did you get a PM and if not I would chase that down with Lexi or Amanda. I replied to Val in case they nuke your last post. There is a limit, or I thought there was? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A private message? No. I've never gotten a private message here on this forum or any of the SL forums. Also, not sure what you mean by "limit"? I'm guessing someone reported my comment as I had a link to another forum in my comment. Which is pretty funny, because I'm certainly not one to promote *that* other forum. What's really sad is that the LL CEO posts on that other forum to communicate with SL residents, but I can't post a link to a thread where SL residents are trying to organize an inworld event? Yes, this comment of my mine probably get deleted too...as I am *gasp* questioning the moderation process. But, it's all good, as this is the incentive I've needed to do something that I've thought about since this time last year. Edited to add: I have gotten one private message here. It was from the forum staff to let me know I was upgraded to "member". *rolls eyes*
  13. Well, this is an interesting turn of events. My comment, which had nothing remotely offensive in it is gone from this thread, as are the people that responded to me. **Guess this isn't really the place to be then....this forum. What a shame** This is not directed at you valerie.
  14. Hiya, Pussycat. That picture is interesting. Is that V2? I'm still using an old 1.23.5 viewer most of the time...and it looks different. It seems we do have some things in common. I'm going to be inworld later....and will look up your profile. Then there will be repercussions that radiant out to the national and even international level. A food-chain-reaction. My state grows a lot of crops that are not only food for humans, but also food for animals. (corn & soybeans) So, prices will go up for not only various human crop type foods, (corn, soybean, tomatoes) but also for meat as livestock food sources will be affected. Unfortunately the current economy is still suffering from the economic recession, and having food prices rise due to weather-related issues will further slow the recovery. But, if you have some hot tea to offer, I'll gladly accept that this morning...

We would be happy to share some of this water with the rest of country. As it is, our biggest crop this year may be mosquitoes!
  18. Randall Ahren wrote: No, not a good idea. Describe your lover. Something like "you look so sensual when you dance, it's mesmerizing." Yes, what Randall said. /\ @ Leeee, the purpose of "dancing" or other animations in SL is not the animation. The animation is just a visual construct that aids the imagination of the RL people behind the avatars. It's your mind, your thoughts, and your interest in the other person that propells the "scene" forward. Just like in RL, you must interact with the other person and develop a rapport...and that is done through words. You can either type your words in chat and/or IM or you can use voice, whatever works best. But, you must communicate, or there is no relationship. This is true of all relationship types whether friends and/or lovers...RL or SL.
  19. The word...Rapture, makes me think of sex. : ) Well, that...and Raptors. Yeah...weird. But, seriously...what do *I* think?! (laughing) Need you ask?

  21. Great thread idea Torley! I used the Destination Guide a few days ago to find an adventurous place to explore. Went with a friend, and we were very impressed with Alpha Point. (Like visiting Barsoom if you've read any Edgar Rice Burrroughs) It has layers of detail that I haven't seen since the now defunked Privateer Space Sim.) This picture does not even begin to do justice to this amazing sim. Visit it, so fantastic places in SL will survive and thrive.

  23. The land auctions are run by LL for land that has been reclaimed and/or deemed ready to sell. So, you or I, can't list land on the auction. It's strictly a LL land auction for land they want to sell. You can list land for sale here in the forums though, and also inworld through the classified ads.
