  1. Re-doing my mainland plot. Much of it is from Fantasy Fair.
  2. I just found PrimPossible/MeshPossible this weekend. It might be more than you're wanting to spend, but the items are well worth the price. You'll have to see the items inworld to believe what they've done is possible. I bought a bed, a chair, a hammock and waffling about getting the hot tub (they have 2 versions of items, one no copy and one copy. The copy one is more expensive).
  3. If you look at those items and clothing with a historical eye, those painted on texture / flexi / sculpty clothing, hair shoes etc.. were a big step above Avatars of contemporary online games and even single player ones too. Even with a freebie skin and hair, I loved the level of detail and customization. It was something I commented on to the friends I'd left behind in those games. With the advent of mesh I think SL has kept it's edge in that regard. On topic, I chose Roxy because it was the secret identity name of one of my favorite City of Heroes characters, Poprocks (an Earth/Bubbles controller for those who want to know). The last name began with a 'C' and Couturier was close enough and I liked the sound of it. It was much later on that I found out different sign-up portals had different lists of last names available. Molly, go with whatever name you like for a display name. If it turns out problematic, you can always change it to something else in a week. (Is it still a week? I've only changed one accounts name and have never changed it since.)
  4. So in group chat for a large event someone was complaining about vendors that didn't have auto unpackers for their demos. This would have been a legit complaint except the same group had a demo hud sent out. So people could try the event items at home (or wherever) then shop for the items they definitely wanted. I pointed that out in chat and was ignored. They kept complaining. I facepalmed and closed the chat because sometimes you can't fix obtuseness. Personally, I thought it was a great idea. As usually I grab demos of stuff, go home where it will rez quickly (or at least quicker than at a busy event) then go back for the ones I want. Having a demo hud saves me a step.
  5. Add Lumae too, at least until she finishes the start of her new brand of skins. You'll get system skins as well as HUDs for most brands of heads and bodies. So you'll have those to use when and if you go mesh.
  6. Personal Log: Just done with dermal scrub Number two. Ow. Note to self: When pranking someone, make sure you mark the bottle with morphing solution. End log.
  7. "Try the mushroom soup." They said. "You'll love it." They said.
  8. Personally, I'm generous with my likes. As I said before, putting yourself 'out there' is a risk.. I personally feel risk should be rewarded. I'll like new posters posts, if for no other reason, to encourage them to post again. As a metric, it's meaningless. As a reward for risk taking, it's priceless. I see, as I look at the thread, a very tangible generosity of spirit. Whether it's encouragement, advice and tips for photo taking or just marveling at what posters here come up with. It's a fun thread. I don't know what it was like before I started looking at it, but that's what I've seen so far. I love the different looks and variety of avatars we have in SL It's like dream barbie, monster factory and cartoon playhouse got together and had a million mutant babies. I hope no one ever posts here and feels so discouraged that they won't post again. We all lose when that happens.
  9. Still at Fantasy Fair spending LOTS. But this shot was too gorgeous not to share.
  10. It's more than a little bit. Taking your example of 9000 sqm, if you premium 8 accounts, you can pool your 1024 each in a land group. With the bonus, it comes to roughly a little over 9000 sqm. So now you can buy and own your own land and then eliminate the 8000L monthly cost. Your premiums pay for that. Now, your 8 each give you 300L. So that's 2400 per week to spend, or 9600L every 4 weeks and there are 13 such 4 week periods a year. That's 124,800L$ per year. Now, you're saying I cant pay for all that at once. You're correct and you don't have to. You stagger going premium once a month for each account. So, only 8 of the 12 months a year is any money being taken. Starting out has an upfront cost, as you pay for your land and the premiums, but you won't need to buy as many L$ each month. You'll have to find and buy land, but that's a one time fee ever. Once your premiums fully pay for your land, all the L$ you get are yours to spend as you wish. It also equals out to buying $50 in L$ per month. (Less because $1.49 a month goes to the transaction fee.) If you're buying more than that, then you can still buy L$ to supplement. That's the math.
  11. I think it's gaining steam. Since I started perusing the official forums and this thread in particular, there's been an increase of new posters and pictures in this thread. And while I'm not so secretly thrilled that one of mine made that list, I know there's been some utterly fantastic pics by others that, imo, were much better. So, while I'm honored to be among them, I don't think it's a metric that really deserves (I'm searching for a word here and all I can think of is) notice? I think everyone's efforts deserves praise. It takes strong nerves to put yourself out there, artistically. I have some friends that look at the thread but won't try, though I believe they can do it. So, personally, I'd rather not make it a thing or a goal to strive for. I love the risk takers.
  12. Attention: There needs to be a 'Yay!' reaction. That is all.
  13. Except, there's a use fee of $1.49 per transaction. the $72 yearly fee does not. So think of it as buying $L at once? Anyway the transaction price creep was what finally pushed me into getting premium on multiple accounts. I was paying way more for L$ every month.
  14. I thought I'd throw in two cents here. Lumae Skins includes system skins as well as appliers. Right now she's re-branding, so all her older mesh era skins are on sale. Those older skins have some pretty thorough coverage for bodies and heads brand-wise. She also has a current group gift that's got the huds and system skins. For example the head HUD includes appliers for Catwa, Lelutka, Genus, and Omega (plus more i cant recall atm). and the body has Maitreya, Bellaza, SLink and Omega appliers. The gift can help as it will apply readily to those bodies and heads without having to purchase an omega relay until you've made a decision on what you're going to buy. You can see the skin as it will look without 'demo' written all over it. And, while the gift skin has make-up already, her regular skins are bare, that is, no make-up, though she does have some special skins with make-up.
  15. Not how I look, but my friend Kate. New backdrops from FF 😎
  16. So I went to the Fantasy Fair. $L were spent. (I'm still there actually) But here's a new dress and hair with a very lovely background. And the same dress with different lighting. I'm loving the hair!
  17. You need to enable advanced lighting. Sun, Moon + projectors. Windlight etc. If it becomes hard for you to move with those turned on, many people set up their shot first then turn those things on long enough to take the picture. Firestorm has a button called 'Phototools' that's handy to turn things off and on without having to go through Preferences.
  18. Let's see, in 2009, I was recent;y unemployed, a bit depressed and bored. So I was reading stories on .. an adult website.. and read a story by one writer. I loved her way with words, so I searched the site and read all her stories. Now I'd been playing City of Heroes and WoW on RP servers, even ran a fairly well regarded RP Guild on WoW. So I could see the elements of taking a scene from an RP session and turning it into a short story in her work. So I fangirled a bit and got up the nerve to send her an email telling her how much I loved her stories. Much to my surprise, she wrote back! As I had guessed, the stories were from in world RP, and if I'd ever heard of Second Life. She invited me to create an account. Obviously I did and after spending a week getting to know the controls, messaged her and soon got back a reply. She friended me and invited me to the sim she was a part of. I didn't do a whole lot of exploring then, I loved (and still love) that sim and most of the people I've met there. Most of my early days stories aren't G-rated, but I do recall being a bit too good at editing.. I'd managed to edit one cuff of a set of no copy cuffs and for the life of me could not remember how the heck I did it. I wound up having to ask for help on that one.. I do however remember money trees as well as PPRS. I made several alts bcause of them. (Money trees for the first 30 days and then PPRS picks, since the trees were for 30 days or less and PPRS had a minimum to be 1 month old. Both of which fueled my shopping in my early pauper days of SL. Bless everyone that set those things up. I remember camping for hair at Girl 6, grabbing almost anything at the Free Dove and Yadni's Junkyard.
