  1. I think this may be an openjpg.dll issue as reported in this post on Kirstens forum. http://www.kirstensviewer.com/Forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=1261 In that thread, Monica provided another solution that worked with her Nvidia card.
  2. Yes, that's the setting. I find at default 0.5 the window stays open about two seconds or so before disappearing quickly, certainly not four seconds. Increasing the fade time to about 4.0 seems fine and a smooth fade. It affects any window that opens using hovertips such as inspecting scripted objects if you click the circled i.

  4. Assuming you have cleared your cache (a full manual clearance is preferable in this instance), http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Clearing_the_cache there is not a lot you can do unless you have Premium membership in which case you can submit a Support ticket from the Help Menu. If Basic membership, there is no support for this issue. If it's worth it financially, taking out Premium membership, even for a month or two, may be an option.
  5. Have you tried clearing your Internet cache and then retrying to cancel the account? http://www.wikihow.com/Clear-Your-Browser's-Cache If no luck still, proceed as Peewee said.
  6. Please advise your computer specifications. If you can open SL to login screen at least (or the previous version) select Help > About > Second Life and copy/paste computer details into a reply. What exactly is going wrong? Can you install the application? If so, can you log inworld at all and only then experience problems or does the login process stop on the way. If so, at what point (look at the comments above the laoding bar)? Have you tried uninstalling second life including manually removing the secondlife folders in AppData Local and AppData Roaming (save chat files if you wish) and then downloading 2.5.2.223426 from the download page. Install yourself. Do not select Run. Location of AppData folders: Windows XP - C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\SecondLife Windows Vista - C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\SecondLife and \Local\SecondLife Windows 7 - C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\SecondLife and \Local\SecondLife
  7. Did you allow Second Life automatically update your viewer or uninstall it manually yourself and then download/install the new version. If the former, I've seen references to login and other issues relating to the automatic process so it can do no harm now to uninstall SL including manually removing the files in AppData Local and AppData Roaming (save chat files if you wish). Then download 2.5.2.223426 from the download page and install. Location of AppData folders: Windows XP - C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\SecondLife Windows Vista - C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\SecondLife and \Local\SecondLife Windows 7 - C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\SecondLife and \Local\SecondLife
  8. Yes, my error, FBO is automatically enabled on selecting Lighting and Shadows. Strangely, although I believe Lighting & Shadows should work on High in Kirstens according to a tutorial I found this morning it only works in Ultra for me. No Shadows on HIgh. Maybe I need to update my graphics driver again.

As Peewee said, contact Billing or alternatively, select Buy Lindens from the Linden Exchange and follow the process until it asks for the Payment Info details at the very end. Insert your new credit card details then and submit. Your Lindens will arrive and you'll have the new Payment Info on your Account.
  10. Linden Lab has a Wiki page on this and while there is no limit as Carlos said, there can be problems. http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/When_I_log_into_Second_Life,_it_gets_to_%22Preparing_Inventory%22_and_stops. Clear your cache using the reset button, close the login screen and then open it again to log in or clear your cache manually by removing the Second Life folder in AppData > SecondLife > Local before logging in. Once in, you can speed inventory loading by typing common letters such as e, s, t etc in the Inventory search window one by one. If you still have problems after the update, uninstall Second Life completely including removing the Second Life folders in AppData > Second Life > Roaming (save chat files if you wish) and AppData > Second Life > Local then download the latest version and install it. Disable automatic updates in Preferences > Setup and and complete an uninstall/reinstall when a new version is necessary to log in.
  11. Usernames are unique and are not recycled and certainly never will be now as Second Life has moved on to single usernames and display names apart from a few remaining third party sites where first & second names are still available. As far as I am aware, you cannot buy someone else's username even if you could contact the person. Accounts are based on real life credentials when set up and Linden Lab will not transfer them. Display names seem to be the way forward for you. No, they are not unique but at least you can choose exactly what you want. http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Usernames/ta-p/700177 http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Display-names/ta-p/700173
  12. You misunderstand me. Yes, you have to install the new viewer version but uninstall the old one first and then download and install the complete new package oneself, not let SL auto update the existing application.
  13. Correct. Not on the official viewer but have been in Kirstens viewer for a few versions as well as the development viewers. Unless you already know, it's really not obvious that Framebuffer Objects must be turned on for Lighting and Shadows to work and that Ultra must be selected so I expect we'll get a number of questions here once this option appears in the main viewer. For many computer systems, Lighting and Shadows will simply not be viable for while it creates gorgeous views and wonderful photos, it greatly reduces frame rates.
  14. Yes, sounds like a LL administrator logged you out, possibly due to an AR. Age check is another popular reason for this account hold but as you are in SL 3 years, I think that unlikely. There are other reasons involving Linden dollars. If you want to be sure it's not a technical issue, just phone Billing Support and ask is your account held or not. If yes, proceed as below. Billing will not deal with the issue beyond that. The Wiki page on this is here: http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Linden_Lab_Official:Why_does_Second_Life_say_%22You_cannot_log_into_Second_Life_from_this_location%22%3F You can also write or fax Linden Lab to appeal this. Refer here for address and fax number http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Linden_Lab_Official:Why_is_my_account_on_hold Recommendations I've seen in the past suggest this works better but I cannot vouch for that and I suggest you also submit a ticket too.
  15. Sal Lichlore wrote: I tried to log into SL yesterday and saw that there was a mandatory update for my viewer to take place before I could log in. I did the update, and after the update was finished now I cannot log into SL with either the updated SL2 viewer or Phoenix viewer. I get as far as waiting for Region Handshake then it gives me a message box saying that there is a problem with either my internet connection or the SL Grid. I have tried multiple times to log in now for two days, and my iternet connection is fine. My account could be logged into by someone else for me on another pc but now that I have done this update I cannot use SL. Any suggestions here that can help me? ___________________________________________________________________________________________ Tried to clear all cache as suggested, all is cleared and PC restarted and still get the failed Region Handshake on both Phoenix and SL2 viewers. Again Internet is still working fine. Any other suggestions? My advice is never accept an automatic update. Has caused problems in the past. Uninstall Second Life and Phoenix completely including the folders Peewee mentioned in AppData (save any chat files you may wish to keep first). Then download the latest viewer and install it. You can disable automatic updates in Me> Preferences > Setup. Change to manual update.
  16. Thanks leliel. Kudos don't bother me at all. I suspect the responders above are using Snowstorm but those options are of course not yet activated in the main official viewer 2.5.2.223426 Graphics menu as you are aware. I hope LL make it clear in Graphics > Advanced when they do find their way into the main viewer that Ultra must be activated and also Framebuffer Objects in the Develop Menu for Lighting & Shadows to work (or automatically activate Framebuffer Objects if Lighting and Shadows is ticked).
  17. You're welcome It's the only reason I can think of. Looks like I can add tags to other people's questions, which I've just noticed.
  18. Good question. Honored Resident is missing from the Tags FAQ but note the comment that some Roles have multiple different rank divisions within them. It must be that Honored Resident is a division of Resident but the ability to add Tags is allowed even though the main Role is below Member.
  19. Edited as I missed a step...ok now. 1. Press CTRL+ALT+D to activate Advanced Menu. 2. Select Show Develop Menu or: just press CTRL+ALT+Q to open Develop Menu. 3. Set your Graphics slider to Ultra. Lighting & Shadows will not work in High, only in Ultra. 4. In Develop Menu, select Rendering and activate Framebuffer Objects. 5. In Develop Menu, select Rendering and activate Lighting and Shadows. 6. In Develop Menu, activate Shadows from Sun/Moon Projectors. You now should be able to see Shadows if your graphics card supports it but remember this option decimates FPS. Note also anti-aliasing does not work with Lighting & Shadows activated.
  20. Assuming you have followed the automatic age verification process http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Age-verification/ta-p/700021 and it is is not working and you have Basic Membershio, you cannot manually age verify. This is a Premium Member support ticket only. You can however add adult verification to your account which will allow you access virtually all adult areas apart from a few where sim owners who have ticked the age verification option. http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Age-verification/ta-p/700021 As you are resident outside the US, Paypal is not an option. http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Linden_Lab_Official:Local_Payments_FAQ If you have a valid annual credit card (not a gift card), open your Dashboard and follow the link to buy Lindens from the Linden Exchange. Buy the minimum amount of Lindens you can (more if you want) and follow the process to the end where you will be asked to insert credit card details. Once you have completed this process and submitted all details you will be adult account verified. Open Second Life and under Me > Preferences > General, change the drop down box to allow you access General, Moderate and Adult. Close SL and relog and all should be fine.
  21. A premium account is paid monthly, quarterly or annually. With a premium account, you get: A L$1000 bonus paid 45 days after signing up A L$250 bonus also paid in 45 days for adding payment information details A L$300 weekly stipend paid every Tuesday 512m free land tier that you can use to either buy land OR participate in the free Linden Homes program Access to Live Chat help Enhanced ticket support over a basic account Automatic adult account verification (not age verification but almost the same as few sim owners insist on age verification as well as adult account verification)
  22. Well sure isn't Liverpool half Irish anyway so next best thing to being at home! Enjoy the day Mags! :smileyhappy:
  23. Beannachtaí na Féile Pádraig to one and all from this Irish resident and despite the earlier forecast of rain for this morning, it's actually a lovely dry and partly sunny morning here in Dublin. There is the risk of an odd light shower but looking outside now, no sign of any dark rain clouds, Many American bands and visitors come over to Dublin every year for the Parade so for once they may not get drenched! Lá Fhéile Pádraig Sona Duit and may you enjoy much Craic Agus Ceol wherever you may be in the world!
