  1. I'm running Kirstens S21(5) with my ATI Radeon 5850 and it runs flawlessly, even with Lighting & Shadows and Global Illumination activated. Textures rez very fast. I'll gladly meet up with you inworld, say in the Linden water sim Smith, and compare stats on Ultra with and without those options.
  2. The Systems Requirements page is hopelessly inadequate when advising people what graphics cards will and will not work with Second Life. Please check the gpu_table.txt located in the program's installation folder for a more accurate list.
  3. Ann, 1 means it defaults to Mid. 0 means it defaults to Low.
  4. Yes, you should be able to run Second Life with that graphics card. The ATI Radeon HD 3450 is an entrance level card but according to Second Life's gpu_table. it will default to Mid setting but you may find you struggle a bit with that in busy sims so reduce to Low if necessary. Update the graphics card driver from the ATI web site if you're using a very old driver. If you experience weird coloured spiky graphics inworld, diasable VBO in Preferences > Graphics > Advanced > Hardware.
  5. That's not a graphics card, it's an old Intel chipset with integrated video and it's highly unlikely you'll be able to improve the performance in Second Life by updating the driver. If this is a desktop, you may be able to add a discrete graphics card with at least 512MB memory but to do so will undoubtedly mean upgrading the PSU as well to power it. If it is a laptop, there's nothing you can do but get a new laptop with a decent discrete graphics card.
  6. Yes, you should be able to run Second Life with that graphics card. Ignore the System Requirements page in repsect of graphics cards, it's woefully inadequate in listing cards that work. The ATI Radeon HD 3450 is an entrance level card but according to Second Life's gpu_table. it will default to Mid setting but you may find you struggle a bit with that in busy sims so reduce to Low if necessary.
  7. I agree with Peewee. Teleports are absolutely fine for me and my home sim (a linden one) is less laggy that it's been for a long time. My fps has gone up by 10 there and I haven't noticed any more lag than usual elsewhere on the grid. Rolling restarts are a common occurrence for maintenance reasons. In past times SL would close entirely for a few hours every week for maintenance but thankfully LL have ways around this now. While you say you're having problems wearing practically nothing, does that practically nothing include any attachments such as shoes or hair with colour and.or resizer scripts or scripted weapons for example? Any of these if heavily or badly scripted can cause problems with teleports. Have a look at this page and try the various suggestions. http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Troubleshooting_teleporting
  8. The System Requirements is incorrect. Second Life runs just fine on Windows 7 64-bit. We've been asking Linden Lab to correct the System Requirements page for many months as that OS is fully supported. Make sure your computer is switched to the ATI card when starting SL as it may very well not run on the integrated graphics and not load when that is what the program is detecting.

You're restricted to General but you certainly should be able to teleport to other General areas besides the Welcome area.. If not a teen, I thought General and Moderate was the default but it's easy to change under Preferences > General. Just select General and Moderate from the drop down menu. If you want to access Adult, it's as Peewee said. Here is the wiki link. http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Age-verification/ta-p/700021

It's not obvious at all and wide sweeping statements such as 'no-one likes it' are at odds with actual usage. Perhaps hardly anyone you know uses viewer 2 but over a fifth of all Residents do use it, the percentage exceeding those using Phoenix, Snowglobe and older SL viewers (if the stats gleaned from a certain site are anyway reliable). I've been using viewer 2 and more often Kirstens (a more advanced version of Viewer 2) since it came out and am very comfortable with it. It took me a while to get to know the viewer but what I really like is how fast textures rez compared to older viewers and third party viewer 1 based clients. It's not all rosy. Search isn't as good and I don't like the web profiles but soon everyone will be using web profiles and at least I'll be used to it by then. I tend to look at viewer 2 as a work in progress. It's continually getting better and better. Linden Lab's main viewer 2 is at version 2.5 now, Kirsten's basecode is at 2.7 and working beautifully for me. What's good is that there are choices out there to suit everyone. If LL would tackle improving Search on viewer 2, I'd be really happy.

I don't even know if I can at least use ANY viewer anymore. Bottom line is that I don't know whether SL will still at least run on my PC. I have looked at the System Requirements, yes, but I don't know if it will merely affect my performance or if I won't be able to run it at all.:smileysad: Personally, I wouldn't rely on the Systems Requirements page to tell me whether my system could run SL or not. Despite numerous attempts over many months to get Linden Lab to alter it from Windows 7 32-bit only to just Windows 7 or Windows 7 32-bit and 64-bit, it still hasn't been changed. Neither is the graphics card list correct as many graphics cards not listed will work. If you click the Help menu above you'll see on the right "Test your system set up and connections". Try that and see what comes up. Even then the only way to really know if your system will run SL or not is to try it. If your system was running Second Life fine until yesterday and now it won't, we should be able to solve it for you but we need to know what the issue is. What happens when you load Second Life and what messages if any appear when things go wrong?
  12. I don't see highlight under Options. What browser are you using?
  13. Gamer Fix is on Linden Lab's $L reseller list so should be ok. http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/L$_Marketplace While approved as such by LL, note the disclaimer that LL does not endorse these resellers and accepts no responsibility if things go wrong.
  14. I don't know too much about Macs either but I do know Viewer 2 will not work with PowerPC-based Macs, only Intel-based ones. If that applies to you, your best bet is to download and use the third party viewer Phoenix. http://www.phoenixviewer.com/ And yes I do know OS X10.4 is designed for Intel based machines but I understand many people are running it on G4s.
  15. You could try this: Select Debug Settings in the Advanced Menu and click Debug Settings. Type in RenderUnloadedAvatar Click Yes and exit Debug Settings. You may have to relog for this to work. Hopefully you will now see your avatar rezzed but quite likely Ruthed. Prepare a folder with copies of your shape, skin, hair and basic clothes in it. Drag the folder onto your avatar and with luck you'll now see yourself ok. You can drag a library avatar folder onto your avatar either. If what Void suggests and the above fail (you seem to have tried all the other usual remedies), you'll have to seek LL help but if you have Basic membership, there is no help available. You need Premium membership.
  16. Yes, I just tried it and I had to log in again too. Same going the other way from being logged in on the Blog, I had to log in again to access my Dashboard. At least the Jira site isn't requiring another login. Hopefully LL will sort it out so only one login is necessary. Nyll
  17. To disable automatic updates, open Preferences > Setup and under Software Updates change to manual. Nyll
  18. Hi Akira, The idea is to download 1.23.5 and once you've accepted the TOS on it, you can uninstall it. There is no need to uninstall the newer viewer during this procedure and once the TOS is accepted it is valid for all SL viewers. This is an unfortunate bug that happens to some people but it's easily solved if a little annoying. Here is the download link for 1.23.5 http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Old_versions Nyll
  19. Try deleting the Second Life Folder in AppData and then restart your computer then Second Life. Windows XP - C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\SecondLifeWindows Vista - C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\SecondLifeWindows Vista Home Premium - C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\SecondLifeWindows 7 - C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\SecondLife Nyll PS. If you can't see AppData:Enable Hidden Files & Folders: Open Control Panel Open “Folder Options” Open the “View” tab Check “Show hidden files, folders, and drives” Press ok and close control panel
  20. It's never a good idea to allow SL update the viewer. If a newer version is released and you want to install it, uninstall the existing version yourself and then download the latest version and install it. I would suggest you do that now and hopefully that will resolve your problem. If not, refer back.
  21. No it doesn't Peewee. I can't see anything on that Wiki page that meeds rephrasing. Nyll
  22. Can you please quote the Wiki link referring to long time and short time users in a reply here. We can ask Torley Linden to rephrase it. Nyll
  23. There is no inventory support for Basic members. What you could do is drop a notecard to the creator explaining the problem and asking for that part to be resent. Include the photograph from this thread so he/she knows exactly what part. Nyll
  24. Li Tomasso wrote: Or is it that SL only allows somewhat tan to white. I've looked at numerous skins, and either they are a neon pink or orange, but no brown. You know like deep, rich, dark chocolate. I even tried the Bollywood skin, but it was more like a barely caramel color. Try Mojo Skins. It has some really nice dark skins. Nyll
  25. oh gosh yes Cinn..thanks so much. I totally overlooked using the block list in Preferences and it is of course possible to block someone using it. Nyll
