  1. Just joking     Spent the last 30 minutes playing with the new Viewer 2.  Going to be a steep learning curve I think.  And hard to figure out what's a bug and what's a feature! Nice that Lexie gave us a Viewer 2.0 Beta subcatagory.......we're going to need it --Cinn
  2. Yes. In reading past threads about similar issues, seems that when a sim shuts down, it does not trigger an automatic return of objects like you would get if the landlord returns objects using the land window. Instead, all objects are held in some type of sim file and people who have had items on sims that closed have had to open tickets with LL to get the sim back for a short period of time in order to retrieve their stuff. Don't know that I've seen this documented anywhere. But it certainly has come up often enough in this forum for me to accept it as likely. As far as a ticket, not sure what LL would do or what kind of ticket you would even open. This all falls under the resident to resident business transactions that LL usually doesn't get involved in. --Cinn
  3. It's disheartening but I really don't see what more you can do that you haven't already done. Best thing is to protect your interests (and your inventory) I would not have anything rezzed at your rented land that is no copy. If the sim closes it could be without notice given the story so far. --Cinn
  4. Email usually comes right away. Check your spam folder to make sure it didn't get redirected by your email system. --Cinn
  5. Well, lots of reasons for a sim to fail to respond to a login request. System is designed to move you to an alternate location if the sim you are requesting to log into does not respond. Better than just not allowing you to log on You can choose to log into Home, Last Location or any sim if you know the name. I suppose one way to guarantee a high success rate is to find a reliable sim with very little activity. I just use my Home most of the time. Probably only get rejected 1 time out of 500 logins so can't complain --Cinn
  6. It's actually a fairly common occurance. Also depends on where you are logging in to. I find that even my Home will give me that error even though its up and running. It's only when you get stuck in a hub and can't beam elsewhere that it's REALLY annoying. --Cinn
  7. Have you gone to a default version of the viewer? In other words, moved all of your settings files into a temp directory so that the viewer will come up in default mode as when its first installed? Just reinstalling the viewer doesn't do that. --Cinn http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/User_settings
  8. If you are getting the Window's blue screen of death, then you may have a hardware related problem. Before you run SL the next time make sure that your Graphics are set to the lowest possible setting. You can access that from the login screen (before logging in) at Edit / Preferences. Set your Quality and Performance slider all the way to the left (Faster/Low setting) See if that helps any. --Cinn
  9. If you happen to be in the same group as someone, yes you can see their last login date. It is listed in the Group info. But you DO need to be a member of the group to see it. --Cinn
  10. If they are on your friends list, you can see who is logged in at the Dashboard (main screen) here by just looking at Friends list on the left hand side of the page. --Cinn
  11. Here is one of the best writeups on SL lag I think I have read. Worth the time http://analutetia.com/2009/06/22/anatomy-of-lag/ --Cinn
  12. Hi Suzee, Just found the reference and added it to my answer --Cinn
  13. You don't. Linden made a statement in a previous blog somewhere that they would be dealing with this based on statistics derived from the search and not from resident AR. --Cinn https://blogs.secondlife.com/community/land/blog/2009/04/23/conclusion-to-the-blog-post-on-bots How will this be enforced? This time next week we will begin to routinely look at the Search results and where we find clear use of Bots to gain an unfair Search advantage we will be handling it as an abuse issue. We will not need you to abuse report this, instead we will monitor the Search results. To begin with we will message the land owner to issue a warning, but this will escalate to an account suspension or removal from Search if it persists. The usual Abuse-appeals process will be available for anyone that feels that the decision is unfair.

  15. Hi Larryk, Try using the keyboard commands to position your camera. ALT-PageUp and ALT-PageDown for vertical angle. CTRL-8 to zoom out and CTRL-0 to zoom in. Once the camera is in position, it seems to stay that way for me. --Cinn
  16. mmmm...very odd. Are you wearing a HUD that has gone bad? You might try removing attachments including HUDs and see if that makes a difference. I suppose it could also be something triggered in the Advanced menu. You can try putting your viewer back to default state by moving your settings files to a temp directory/folder. --Cinn
  17. Oh, forgot. To do that you go to Dashboard / Account / Change Membership Plan --Cinn
  18. If you are talking about going from premium to basic, you won't get a refund. You will remain a premium user until your next bill date and then convert to a basic user. --Cinn
  19. Everyone's allowed one corpse Yes it's a wonderfully funny video --Cinn
  20. "Owner" is your default group title. See the following video from Torley on how to change your group title. http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Video_Tutorial/Changing_your_group_title --Cinn
  21. type part of the name of the image in the text box at the top of your inventory. that should help narrow down your search. --Cinn
  22. Look in your Textures folder. Most images are uploaded there --Cinn
  23. Yes. You just need to upload the image you want. --Cinn http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Uploading_images_and_sounds How much does it cost? Uploading files to Second Life costs L$10 (ten Linden Dollars) per file. The per-file cost is deducted from your inworld balance regardless of whether you upload the files one at a time or use Bulk Upload. (The purpose of Bulk Upload is to expedite the upload process, not to save L$.) Uploading an image Go to File > Upload Image (L$10). Choose a valid TGA, PNG, BMP, or JPG file with at least 24-bit color. PNG (24-bit) and TGA (32-bit) files allow the use of transparent effects via an alpha channel. For example, a stained glass window. You can't upload files saved in 8-bit, 16-bit or palletized color. Most modern image editors can convert between formats. Tip: When uploading, textures are scaled to the nearest "powers of 2" aspect ratio due to how the system handles textures. If you find this results in unwanted stretching/squishing, you may prefer to use your image editor's built-in resampling to optimize proportions prior to upload. What image format should I use? TGA (32-bit supports alpha channel), PNG (24-bit supports alpha channel), or BMP. When you upload an image, the Viewer internally converts it to JPG2000 for optimized future transmission. For best quality, try to avoid uploading JPGs; their already-compressed quality degrades further because of the double conversion. What are good sizes for textures? Textures should be as small as possible — texture size is highly context-sensitive so it takes experienced artistic judgment. For example, if you're texture-mapping a tiny pebble, its detail can be negligible compared to a giant tree in the same scene. For general use, 512x512 is a fair balance. The maximum resolution for an uploaded texture is 1024x1024 pixels; if you upload a bigger image, it'll be scaled down to 1024x1024 pixels. Even if you have a fast Internet connection and top-end graphics card, your computer can only display a finite amount of texture data.
  24. You are not pregnant in SL unless you want to be pregnant in SL. And even that's pretend. --Cinn
