  1. This is a tangential add-on thought to Peggy & Deltango etc's conversation. SL has been static for several years. The way the system is set up limits the amount of traffic it can hold, is laggy and several other things. In the technology world static = death. Progress comes too fast to stand still and stay competitive. From what I understand LL's financial health is not the most robust. That's point one. The other, related point, is that there is the strong, pervasive belief "out there" that everything on the Internet should be free and free access. This is a lovely notion but a lousy business model. As an example of the problem: traditional print media of newspapers and magazines. Sales are down on the physical product. Expenses are up. Yet when they try to move over to digital they find it difficult to get paid subscribers because of this ingrained belief the public has that Internet = Free content. That was great when it was college drop outs in garages making the computers and colleges were coming up with this cool way to share information. Those days are gone. Do I want to pay a monthly or yearly fee to LL? No. I don't want to. I also don't want to send money to my cable company or my electric company either! I use LL and would pay for the pleasure if I had to. If I did, I would bitch a lot louder about the lag and aging technology, too! Until I have to, though, I won't pay for it. I spend my Lindens on clothes and land rental.
  2. March! OK, March in semi-southern USA. Too far north and March is still too much winter. I like the blustery cold rain of March. I like the "mood swings" of March. In like a Lion out like a Lamb and all that. The change from winter's cold, dormant potential into the ripening of spring's promise. The... OK, I'm probably over-thinking this! :matte-motes-smile:
  3. I HATE helping men shop for hair in SL. (I suppose I hate shopping for men's hair in RL, too!) :matte-motes-wink: Does anyone know of a style that looks like Robb Stark's in Game of Thrones? Short, tousled, curly? mmmm yummy (Yes a very short woman's cut would work, too.) Like this:
  4. For innocent, young, not a lot of make up, you could try My Ugly Dorothy (or it might be: Myuglydorothy, one word, or My UglyDorothy?). Stupid name but cute skins. http://slurl.com/secondlife/TOV%20AUCTlON/50/101/28
  5. Less lag. Less bugs. Better avatar mesh. Make teleporting free ware so we can do it in RL.
  6. Does anybody USE my.secondlife.com like FB? I don't know of anyone who uses it. I know a lot of people who probably don't know it exists. I never look at mine. I just did, because of this thread.
  7. I followed the links you gave and, I hate to be a wet blanket, but I see little here to be optimistic about. Not even cautiously optimistic. Really all they said is, "This seems to be important to some of you, we'll think about it." Sounds akin to, "Don't call us, we'll call you." Granted, I'm reading this with a somewhat jaded eye due to my obsrvation of LL's other customer requests. That said, I hope they do reverse themselves. I'm just not holding my breath because they finally acknowledged a JIRA topic. PS. THANKS Jo for posting this though. It is interesting.

They tend to discover, sooner rather than later, that SL is equally an unfulfilling as their RLs. /me WAILS! Mr. Undercroft I don't even KNOW you and you are being so mean! /me sniffles. I know my SL and RL are unfulfilling but but but didja hafta tell everyone????? . . . :matte-motes-wink:
  9. Venus Petrov wrote: Yup there are lots of odd names in SL. Even some of those that became members before the whole 'Resident' thing have odd names. Amusing names, too. It is as it is and we just have to roll with it. Ha! I was one of those before "Resident" thing with an odd name which is precisely why I created Ellyn! I hated the name I chose as a noob and sometimes not being the sharpest tack in the box it was a long time before I figured out I could create another avatar. It just never dawned on me. Durrrp. However I'm glad I created Ellyn before the Resident thing came into place. I dislike that and feel sorry for the folks who don't get a chance at the families of surnames. I purposely chose rather boring and normal name for this avatar but I saw people do very creative things with the canned surnames that used to be provided. It is what it is but it doesn't have to be. LL could revert back. They won't but they could. As to the backwards, upside down, unicode monstrosities out there, generally speaking I use that as a clue, like I do when I read dopey profiles. Leetspeak and all of that? I don't bother. Perhaps my loss but I can live with that.
  10. Because I'm aware of the stupid way they have the Marketplace reviews and comments set up, I never bother to read any of them. So for me, the sockpuppet merchants are wasting their time. This is yet another example of something that could be fixed by LL if they cared. I really feel for the merchants who take care and pride in their work, making SL a better place, and fight an uphill battle most of the time to do it.
  11. Better, my vampire ID. The Great Archives determine you to have gone by the identity: Princess of The Orient Known in some parts of the world as: Death of The Beltane Feasts The Great Archives Record: One of ritual and pleasure - presiding over the gluttonous feasts of the wickedest night of the year. WooHoo! Presiding over gluttonous feasts! I can get into that.
  12. I think I would prefer what Carole got to what I got. Apparently I am insect obsessed--moths and cicadas. I also am the source of the martinis being served around here because I cast weird dreams. Moth Willowwand She casts weird dreams. She lives close to caverns and stalagtite grottoes. She is only seen when the seeker holds a four-leafed clover. She wears dresses stitched with crystals and has delicate green coloured wings like a cicada.
  13. My experience is as you describe. It is very annoying. I don't know how I am getting the spam either because like you I've not heard of some of these places. I participate in hunts. I wander the grid. I join some groups. It never used to be a problem. Since my SL IMs go to my email I'm getting spammed in RL. Spammed twice because I have to deal with the stuff once I come inworld. Grumble...:matte-motes-angry:

This is such a tiny forum would be such a breeze to manage & maintain. because too many people whine about potential abuse of power (even though the original boards had them with great success) Yeah, that abuse of power issue. Terrible stuff. That would never happen with official mods, right? Right? I haven't been here long but I noticed an innocuous thread get pulled yesterday and I certainly didn't get notified of a reason why and my posts were in there and my guess is they were part of the reason the thread was pulled. Who knows? As to the OP, it is well into the afternoon and a quick scan of what even I can pick out as one of the spammers shows the Forum to be loaded with spam of various types. I decided to participate here because I will have extra time on my hands for the next few weeks, but I certainly understand what Celestial is talking about. I've popped in and out in the forums before and I can't imagine how frustrating this must be for those who have been here a while. I saw the old forum and it had its problems too, including spamming, but I don't see how they improved anything. I'm betting that this post gets yanked before the spam. Btw, we can get "bleeped" here? . /me is curious as to how that works and is tempted to see a first hand trial!
  15. I'm just waiting for one of the males to come in here and offer to come inworld to "help." :matte-motes-evil-invert: PS. No worries about not being so good at this yet. Like someone said, we all started out like this and soon you'll be a fashionista. We all have stories about how we walked around in some form of dis-dress, like wearing boxes on our arms, losing things, having a shoe coming out of your tummy, we've all done it.
  16. This is interesting. Whether it is promising or not is too soon to tell. It would be nice to get the infrastructure fixed and upgraded and not just a new flavor of online philosophy. Wait and see, wait and see.
  17. RE: low pony tails...again doing this from memory so I don't have the style names but... I know I have one from Maitreya (yeah yeah SP) and I got a darling one from Collabor8, for $L88 from Truth. I don't know if that style is still available at Collabora8 or at Truth but it is really cute. (Edited to add: Truth style is Gabriel. Maitreya style is Evi II.)(It was bugging me so I went inworld!) The sinking the hair into the head has potential too, Thanks Venus. I also bought a darling outfit with an autumn tophat from Pulse and need to tweak some hair for it.
  18. Several designers have hats with hair now. I'm not inworld but both Maitreya (spelling?) and Truth come to mind. I generally use a low, smooth pony tail hairstyle to avoid hat head in SL.

If they own the sim then there is a known owner(s) of that sim that can be held responsible so therefore we have MORE recourse or an established method of addressing their actions to LL. Just saying, no need to take it too personally. BTW, ever have someone with breedables move in next to ya? They suck the whole resources, lag whatever is sharing the server, you have to look at them and if they own the land and there is no group covenent you're screwed. I've moved twice due to this. So I stand by my other comment about the ownership thing.
  20. Sy said, "Sorry to jump on your back too along with Venus, " I guess I took that personally for some reason. :::missing sarcasm emoticon::: Edited to add: I laughed at your comic, Sy. And my knickers really are not in a twist! I am, indeed, relaxed, in good spirits and enjoying my Tuesday. I hope you are as well.
  21. Venus Petrov wrote: Just relax. I responded to your words in your post. You clarified. Now, enjoy your Tuesday. ??? I'm relaxed. My Tuesday is just fine, thank you, but thanks for the permission to enjoy it. I was going to thank you for the reminder to change the avatar to a Halloween gif (like you had) but I think I'll wait for a day when you haven't gotten over your morning smile. Apparently it is smile in the morning, smile in the evening and grump and boss inbetween?

Sy Beck wrote: If you lived on the neighbouring sim or lived on the sim I'm sure you wouldn't appreciate the view of a sim piled up with unwanted prims and objects with scripts running and maxing all the sim resources. The OP's premise is just plain wrong and if they want that then, as has been mentioned, they should buy their own sim and see what a PITA it is to clean up a sim after a day of happy consensual griefing that is open to all comers. BTW, since it does seem to be official nit-picking day, then the suggestion to buy their own sim is equally wrong from your own words. You could still see the view. If the sim is on the same server then they'd still be maxing out the sim resources. Since they now own the sim you would have LESS recourse to do anything about it. Just saying. Playing devil's advocate since apparently folks are doing the same to my post.

Fiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiine. I really was talking about not impacting other people and I also (as seems to be being ignored here) told the OP that the suggestion was ridiculous, SL owed them nothing and get their own sim. Is it official nit-picking day?
