  2. Yeah. Me too. All of the JIRA issues related to this problem (SH-1838,VWR-26325, VWR-26371, for example) are unresolved, and have been for the last half dozen releases of the V2/V3 viewer. The problem is most acute with ATI graphics cards, and there is some suggestion that the newest drivers may make a difference for some users. So far, though, the best workaround has been to disable VBO. The OP can try updating/reinstalling drivers, but it looks like other than trading in the ATI card for an NVidia one, she'll just have to wait to LL's developers to solve the problem. It's a real bummer.
  3. Going to Preferences >> Graphics >> Hardware Settings and UNcheck the box for Enable OpenGL Vertex Buffer Objects (VBO) should do it for you. It's an OpenGL issue. I'm surprised that it hasn't.
  4. Has your anti-aliasing setting in Preferences >> Graphics >> Hardware Settings changed? You'll lose a bit of FPS by increasing it, but that might help your pixelation.
  5. Would you like to rephrase your question?
  6. The easiest way to get L$ is to buy it. Skip your morning coffee and donut and bring the money into SL instead. That's more than enough to buy quite a lot of merchandise. There are many ways to earn money in SL (see http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/How-to-get-Linden-dollars/ta-p/700085), but most require a fair amount of talent and experience in SL, and none of them pay as well as working in a RL job for the same amount of time. Besides, why would you want to go on vacation in a virtual world and spend all your time working?
  7. Hi! Welcome to SL! First, let's be sure that you are using your viewer in Advanced mode, not the introductory Basic mode. There's a MODE button in the upper right corner of your viewer screen, near the vound controls. Click it and select Advanced from the dropdown menu, then log out. When you log back in, you'll have all of the normal functions you need in SL. Now, with that out of the way, open your Inventory and scroll all the way to the bottom. Open the Library folder, and its Clothing subfolder, and its Initial Outfits sub-subfolder. You'll find a whole mess of outfits. Pick one and use your mouse to drag it over and drop it on your avatar. It will take a minute, but your avatar should assume the new appearance of that outfit. (You could also open the folder, select each item one at a time and the right click and WEAR it.) If you don't like that avatar, try another one. Later, when you have had a chance to explore, you can learn how to make your own shape and you can shop for a different skin and hair, but that should take care of things for now.
  8. LL has been doing a lot of server maintenance for the past couple of weeks, so many more destinations have been offline than usual. That could account for at least some of your TP problem. There are other possibilities too, though. The most common one is that you are wearing too much. When you TP, the system has to transfer information about you from one server to another, and it also has to transfer information about anything that's coming with you. The more stuff it has to deal with, the longer it takes. See >>> http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Troubleshooting_teleporting to look at other possible causes, and some solutions.
  9. That's a very rational suggestion. In fact, there are many problems with the Magic Box system, which is why it is about to vanish completely. LL has essentially stopped trying to fix Magic Box deliveries for the past 6 months as a result. Like you, I almost never have delivery problems, either as a customer or as a merchant. I suspect in both cases that it's because I never deal in large volume, so I don't put much strain on the system and neither do my customers. Anecdotal evidence suggests that the people with the greatest bad luck are doing a high sales volume.
  11. We can't offer much advice without more information from you. You are asking something like "Why can't I go to my friend's house today?" We couldn't answer that one either. Unless you tell us what kind of computer you have, what operating system it is running, how much memory it has, what kind of graphics card it has, what viewer you are using, what sort of error messages you have been getting ...... all we can do is guess. You can add more information to your question by clicking on the Options link in its upper right corner and selecting EDIT. Please do NOT start a new thread.
  12. That's it. 1000 ms ping is a very serious network lag. It shouldn't normally take more than about 100ms for a signal to get from your computer to LL's servers. Anything over about 150ms is a potentially crippling lag. Take a very good look at Nalates' blog regarding troubleshooting your connection >>> http://blog.nalates.net/2011/10/26/troubleshoot-your-sl-connection/ . In particular, follow her advice about doing a speed test to determine exactly where the bottleneck in your connection is, and what to do about it. Meanwhile, open Preferences >> Graphics and set your Maximum Bandwidth slider to 500. See if that helps even a little bit. If it does, you can increase it somewhat, but no higher than about 1,500. Sometimes having the maximum set too high can cause some signal loss.
  13. You can have as many Magic Boxes as you like and, in fact, it is wise to have at least two and keep them on different sims so that you can avoid delivery failures if one sim goes off line. For your immediate problem, though, file a support ticket immediately or, if you are a Premium member, go to Live Chat. LL can reopen a closed sim to let you claim any items that were not automatically returned to your Lost & Found, but that is only possible for a short period of time.
  14. OK... if that folder is not present, then that cannot be the problem. I truly suspect that wireless is the root of your difficulty. If many other people are using that wireless router at the same time you are, you are losing valuable bandwidth. SL not only has a large bandwidth requirement, it is also sensitive to interruptions in data flow between your viewer and its servers. Open your Statistics Bar (CTRL + Shift + 1) and look at your own bandwidth, packet loss and ping numbers. My guess is that they are outside normal range. Take a look at http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/How_to_find_FPS,_Packet_Loss,_Ping_Sim_and_Ping_User and http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Checking_for_packet_loss_%28network_lag%29
  15. There are no Lindens here. We are all SL residents, just like you. If you feel that someone is violating the TOS, file an Abuse Report with as much specific evidence as you can. If LL determines that there is a TOS violation, they will take appropriate action. Otherwise, they do not interfere in disputes between residents. The wisest thing you can do is to ignore them and, if possible, go somewhere else. SL is a very big place, and there is no reason why you have to stay someplace where you are being made uncomfortable. Please read >>> http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/User:Fr43k_Paine/Dealing_With_Griefers for some very good advice about dealing with disruptive people. Meanwhile, please remove the names of the two people from your question here. You are violating the Community Standards yourself by posting their names, and I would not like to see you get in trouble for that.
  16. You're referring to https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/SVC-7297. Yes, it's a very annoying bug, listed now as "fix pending", which usually means that the developers have written a patch to fix it but need to test it in a limited release of the next server update before making it available across the main grid. So, my uninformed guess is that "try again later" means that your own IM queue should probably be clear within a day or less, and the problem itself will probably be resolved in a week or two. If you want to prod the process along, and if you have something constructive to add, feel free to post a comment in that JIRA.
  17. Nope. Manually clearing cache from outside SL, as in http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Clear_Cache
  18. If you have tried all of the suggestions at http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Inventory_loss as Angel recommended, including clearing your cache manually, then you should use Live Chat to get help from LL's support staff, assuming that you are a Premium member.
  19. The only plugin you should need is slplugin.exe, which is included in the download with your viewer and is installed automatically, so you do not need to do anything special. Some additional plugins are available for some specific functions, or to solve viewer problems. You can find links to those all the way at the bottom of the page at http://wiki.phoenixviewer.com/doku.php?id=downloads.
  20. The balance that is shown in the Account >> Transaction History on your dashboard at http://secondlife.com should be correct. The one that appears in the upper right corner of your viewer when you are in SL, however, may be wrong. You can update it by clicking on the L$ symbol. That will force the viewer to get the correct number from your dashboard. If you still have questions, however, contact the billing office. LL's billing team is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Toll-Free (US/Canada) 800.294.1067 Long-Distance 703.286.6277 Local Toll-Free numbers * France: 0805.101.490 * Germany: 0800.664.5510 * Japan: 0066.33.132.830 * Portugal: 800.814.450 * Spain: 800.300.560 * UK: 0800.048.4646 * Support is in English Only If you cannot use any of these phone numbers, you can also send an e-mail note to support@payments.secondlife.com
  21. There are several possible reasons for an incomplete login. One possibility is a weak or intermittent connection at your router. Try rebooting it by unplugging it from th power for a few minutes. Also, if ou have been using a wireless connection, switch to a direct cable instead. A much less obvious possibility is this one, suggested by the support staff at Firestorm/Phoenix: When you receive notifications, unless you dismiss them, they accumulate for later reading, in the small envelope icon on the lower right of the screen. Over time, they will grow in number. If you log out, these unread notifications are saved for when you next log in. If there are too many of them, processing them during next log in can cause a log in time out and you will be disconnected. The solution here is to delete the file with the saved notifications. Locate your Firestorm settings folder. If you do not see this folder, you may need to show hidden folders. On XP: C:\Documents and Settings\[YOUR USERNAME]\Application Data\Firestorm or use the environment variable %APPDATA%) On Windows Vista and 7: C:\Users\[uSERNAME]\AppData\Roaming\Firestorm (or use the environment variable %APPDATA%) On a Mac: /Users/[YOUR USERNAME]/Library/Application Support/Firestorm On Linux: ~/.firestorm In this folder, open each folder which has the name of your SL account(s) and inside that, delete the file called open_notifications.xml - this will result in all past, unread notifications being lost.
  22. If the Lindex is not behaving well for you, try using an approved third-party exchange (not one of the fly-by-night ones that are out to steal not only your money but also your identity) >>> https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Linden_Lab_Official:Linden_Dollar_Marketplace
  23. Usually, items that seem to go missing from land are simply misplaced. They're either invisible or inside something else or underground, or they have been returned and are back in the owner's inventory somewhere. Finding them can be a true challenge, but it's not impossible. See >> http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Finding_lost_objects and http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Inventory_loss . Within the past couple of weeks, however, there has been an increase in the number of unexplained absences. There may be a server bug behind them. See the continuing discussion at http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Inventory_loss and, maybe, this JIRA report >>> https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-27158?. If you have relevant information to add in either spot, especially if it can help LL's developers figure out what's wrong, please add it.
  24. Nope. They have their own separate functions.
  25. I am a little confused about exactly what the problem is. If you own the group, and the group owns the land, you should be able to use About Land >> Options to set permissions on the land to allow any group member to build or rez items there (and to restrict others from doing it). If you have deeded certain objects to the group, you (as a group owner) can always sell them back to yourself (as an individual) for L$0. (If you do that, remember that you will no longer have full perms on items that you may have created, but will have "next owner" perms.) The same is true of the land itself. If you no longer want the land (as group owner), then you can sell it back to yourself (as an individual). The only thing to watch out for there is that you sell it specificlly to yourself and don't accidentally put it on the open market, where a land bot can grab it for L$0. See >> http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Managing-groups/ta-p/700111 and http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Managing-land/ta-p/700113
