  1. Loads of them..... There are many reasons for that very common problem. What works for one person won't necessarily work for the next person, and it may not be the same thing that works for you tomorrow. See the full list of possibilitites here >>> http://wiki.phoenixviewer.com/doku.php?id=fs_bake_fail . Start with the simple things at the top of the list and work down until you find what works for you today.

  3. Hmmmm... Unfortunately, SL and other OpenGL programs often do not play well with ATI cards -- even a good one like yours. The JIRA reports are full of complaints, and we get a lot of questions here. The obvious first step was to be sure that the drivers really are up to date, which you have now done. If you have tried the solutions that were mentioned in those other threads and still can't get the card to work, try this ... Disable AI in Catalyst: Right click on your desktop (or right click the ATI logo in the bottom right tray) and select Catalyst Control Center; In catalyst control center go to the advanced options menu; Then click on the 3D tab on the left side. Catalyst A.I. will be amongst the labels there; Tick the box next to 'Disable Catalyst A.I.'
  4. That should work, except that you don't really want to say the full list. Try llSay(0,llList2String(show,0)); You do need to have your script in the prim that has hover text, of course.
  5. Check the answers to previous posts from people who have had trouble with Radeon series 6000 cards..... http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Technical/I-just-got-a-new-laptop-with-an-AMD-HD-Radeon-6770m-and-it-gives/qaq-p/1087927 See Max Tyler's response here, in particular >>> http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Technical/So-i-got-my-HD-Radeon-6770m-card-to-work-with-sl-but-there-s-a/qaq-p/1090217 Once you've read through those and tried what they recommend, if you are still having trouble, try a clean reinstall of your drivers >>>> http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Clean_Install
  6. Click the My Appearance tab to open the sidebar. Click the WEARING tab to view your currently-worn outfit. Click the Edit Wrench at the top of the sidebar to enter appearance editing mode. Select one of your Body Parts and click the corresponding Edit Wrench to begin editing it. Use the sliders to adjust the item's physical parameters to your liking. When editing your avatar's Shape body part, you may choose its gender from the radio buttons at the top of the sidebar.
  7. First thing .... You probably better remove the merchant's name from your post here before you get in trouble for violating Community Standards. If you haven't had any response to your IM to th creator, consider that (1) a lot of people don't log in every day (2) it's the weekend and at least some people have RL obligations, and (3) the merchant's in-box may be capped, so that he never received your IM. It's probably a good idea to try again. Be patient and wait a few days before you move to Plan B. Plan B is to file a support ticket at https://support.secondlife.com/create-case/ . Select "Marketplace" from the pulldown menu, and be sure to include a cut & paste copy of your Marketplace transaction so that LL knows what you are talking about. To get a record of the individual items in your order, open Marketplace and click the My Marketplace menu at the top of the page. Select My Account >> Order History from the pulldown menu. ETA: Oh, and don't complain about the delivery issue in a product review. That's really not fair. It's not the merchant's fault that the transaction failed. That's a system issue with Marketplace. The merchant is probably just as ticked as you are when it happens.
  8. Do you mean that the cat curls up into a ball as if she's going to sleep? Or do you mean that she becomes a spherical prim? If she still looks like a curled-up cat, then it's an animation issue, as Maryann says. Consult the instructions that came with the cat, or take a crash course in Japanese so you can ask the creator what's up. If she's like a ping-pong ball, though, maybe you have a mesh kitty that's not loading fully (or you're looking at it with a non-mesh viewer).
  9. If you have wandered into a no-script parcel or sim, that's exactly what will happen.
  10. Is the pic on your profile at https://my.secondlife.com/winglessXangel the correct one? It's pretty nice. If not, you can update it there by opening the Settings tab and then clicking Profile Pic.
  11. Assuming that you bought the items in Marketplace ..... To get a record of the individual items in your order, open Marketplace and click the My Marketplace menu at the top of the page. Select My Account >> Order History from the pulldown menu. If you do not receive items within about 24 hours, you should cut and paste the information about a missing item from that Order History and send it in a IM or notecard to the merchant, along with a polite message requesting redelivery. Most merchants are very kind and willing to redeliver. This happens all the time and they are aware of it. Do be patient, though. Not everyone logs in to SL every day or checks their e-mail. If you still haven't heard in another day or two, follow it up with a second polite note and finally, if you STILL haven't heard, file a support ticket at https://support.secondlife.com/create-case/ , selecting Marketplace from the pulldown menu. Not that it helps now, but to remember for the future: (1) Don't overuse the shopping cart. It is easily confused if you put more than a couple of things in it. (2) Don't buy things from Marketplace (especially LOTS of things) unless you are in world to receive them at the time. We each have an "in box" that holds IMs, notecards, group notices, group invitations, and anything that is delivered to us if we aren't in world at the time. That "in box" can only hold 25 things, total. If anything else comes in, it isn't saved. It is gone ... poof .... forever. If you have a mess of things delivered from Marketplace and half your friends send you notecards, that in box will be capped and you will never know what happened. If you bought them in world, the transaction information is in your Transaction History on your dashboard at secondlife.com >> Accounts.
  12. If there's no error message, then it probably disconnected, not crashed. One of the most common reasons is that you have a firewall or an antivirus program blocking your access to SL. Check out this information and see if it helps >>>> http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Configure_your_software_firewall . Also, check to be sure that your computer actually meets LL's recommended standards (https://secondlife.com/my/support/system-requirements/index.php?lang=en-US ). If your computer has inadequate memory or a substandard graphics card, you'll have trouble logging in and staying connected. If you have further information to share (your computer's specs would be nice, for example), you can add it here by clicking on the Options link in the upper right corner of your question and selecting EDIT. Please do NOT start a new thread.
  13. That is a very difficult problem to solve. We've had only a few people complaining about it, and they have often tried many things without success, as you have. All we can do is point you to solutions that we know have worked for some pople in the past. You may have read them already, but if not, read http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Technical/media-plugin-webkit-error-in-latest-viewer-2-6-on-OS-X/qaq-p/785235 http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Technical/media-plugin-webkit-error-in-latest-viewer-2-6-on-OS-X/qaq-p/785235 and http://wiki.phoenixviewer.com/doku.php?id=media One of the strangest possibilities is a conflict that aparently only affects people who are using a BigFoot Killer network card. You'll see a workaround for that particular problem at the Phoenix site (the third link, above).
  14. RobinFeather wrote: Ok so i log in, it just loads and shows up this message. I cannot get to the world. I clicked ok and logged in again but the same message popped up. I clicked Teleport and logged in and the same message popped up. I have to use wireless connection....Is there a way i do not get any problems? Thanks for the answer though Thanks for adding that information, Robin. Too bad about being stuck with wireless. Unfortunately, that is a very likely source of your problems. It is for many SL residents. Wireless gets interference from garage door openers, cell phones, and "smart" home appliances, and it loses bandwidth to anyone else that may be using the same connection (either legally or as a pirate). If you really must use wireless, you may find that the best way to get into SL is to find a nice quiet place to connect (not Starbucks or your dorm room), and see if a less busy system helps. I gave you some pre-emptive suggestions in my earlier post, and I see that Peggy has repeated them. (She's the real tech expert here.) Certainly do each of those things. Your router is probably the weakest link in your connection to the Internet. If you are in a college environment, ask your campus IT techs to check the router if you can't. Also ask them if there are firewall or antivirus restrictuions in the system that you should be aware of. (You can give them some information about SL's requirements by referring to this page >>> http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Configuring_your_firewall) If you're still stuck after doing those things, let us know again.......

  16. So, if you chacked the grid status reports at http://status.secondlifegrid.net/, you have found that there is no system-wide problem at the moment. You said that you got a message, but you didn't say whether you were actually having a problem of some kind. If not, just ignore it. As a pre-emptive measure, try rebooting your router to be sure that you are getting the best performance from it. (Just unplug it from the power and walk away for five minutes. Then plug it back in.) If you've been using a wireless connection, don't. That causes many people trouble. There are just too many sources of interference to get a reliable, continuous connection. Log in at a nice quiet sim like Smith or Aqua, open your Statistics Bar (CTRL + Shift + 1) and check your Ping and Packet Loss. Here's what you're looking for >>> http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Checking_for_packet_loss_%28network_lag%29. Again, though, unless you are actually having a problem, ignore tha message. If you are haing a problem, come back here and click the Options link in the upper right corner of your question and select EDIT to add more information. Please do NOT start a new thread.
  17. It's an old, annoying bug. All you have to do is download and install any other viewer, log in, and accept the TOS. After that, you can decide whether to stick with the other viewer or go back to what you were using before. You will never have to accept the TOS again, so this is a one-time deal. I'd recommend trying the Firestorm viewer, at http://www.phoenixviewer.com/downloads.php
  18. If you are using Firestorm or the V2/V3 viewer, you can set Advanced Permissions by going to Build >> Options >> Show Advanced Permissions. I believe that's an option in other viewers as well, but I'm not sure. Anyway..... read http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Debug_Permissions to see what that gets you. I find that the * notation is particularly helpful in seeing what permissions I have set but are not yet enabled.

  21. Your viewer and SL's servers have temporarily lost the ability to talk to each other because there are squirrels on the line. Unless there's a problem with the servers (Always check http://status.secondlifegrid.net/ first), it's probably something on your end. So.... (1) Try shutting off your computer, unplugging the router and modem for a couple of minutes, and then plugging them back in and restarting. That simple step may clear up everything (2) Change your DNS settings from whatever your ISP assigns you as a default. Use Google's free public DNS servers instead. Here's how >>> http://code.google.com/speed/public-dns/ (3) If things are STILL messed up, contact your ISP. Maybe they are working on their Internet connections. Mine go down for about 20 minutes once a month or so while they are vacuuming dust out of their servers, or whatever they do.
  22. SL residents have been using Lion since it became available. There are minor issues, but the same is true of every OS. The only serious issue I'm aware of is this one ... Nvidia cards NVidia systems will freeze shortly after login, possibly followed by a system crash. This issue is affecting all Viewer 2 based viewers. Please see FIRE-2297 for details. Please also see the LL JIRAS here SH-2032 & SH-2034 Workaround For Now Disable Open GL Vertex Buffer objects from the login screen in Viewer → Preferences → Graphics → Hardware This will likely badly affect your performance and FPS but for now, at least it should let you login untill this is fixed. Intel3000 Graphics Initial reports suggest that the new generation Macbook Air's running Lion and Intel3000 graphics have the same issue as Nividia Cards. Info will be added when we know more.

  24. There's a nice, short script example at http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/LlGetNotecardLine . If you can follow its logic, you can handle writing your own notecard reader. Good luck, Laura.
  25. thatsoul asked: does this mean that not even internet providers can view where you go? That's a different question than the OP asked. Your ISP can tell what sites you have visited because it is possible to track your IP addresses. If your employer were clever enough, he could too. That would only tell them that you were using Second Life, though. It wouldn't tell them what you were doing here. THAT's what the OP asked. The IP address will just get them to the front gate of SL, and no farther.
