  1. I HATE it when that happens!!! Thanks, Charolotte. :smileywink:
  2. Thank you for adding that information. It's a start. More people would be able to see it if you had added it to your original question as I asked, however. A Compac Presario? A notebook computer? There's a very good possibility that it is unable to support SL simply because it is not powerful enough. I suspect that it doesn't even have a graphics card in it, but uses a graphics chip instead. There are many different models of Compac Presarios, though, so it's impossible to tell much more than that without more information. One possible problem is that you are using WiFi, which is a problem for a lot of SL residents. Wireless connections lose a lot of bandwidth, and it doesn't take much electronic interference from cell phones and garage door openers to mess up the signal. You didn't say which V2 viewer you are using, but I am assuming that you have just downloaded the most current version (V3). Especially if your computer is seriously underpowered, you may not be able to use that viewer at all. You may only be able to get an earlier, less demanding viewer to work on it. You could try installing one of the approved third party viewers to see if they work for you >>> http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Third_Party_Viewer_Directory
  3. You probably have a Linden plant among the items in your coalesced object, and you are trying to rez it on land where you are not allowed to rez that item. So, find a sandbox where it is allowed. Torley's sim is always a good one to try >>> http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Here/7/7/69 . When you want to rez the coalesced object, be sure to open Edit FIRST (CTRL + 3), and THEN rez the object. That way, the entire thing will be selected and you will be able to move it as a unit, just incase parts rez underground or inside other things.
  4. Your profile is at http://my.secondlife.com/Sphinx.SpiritWeaver . If you want to use search from your dashboard, just click on the Search button in the extreme upper right of the screen.
  5. When items are unlisted by LL, it's often because the listing includes some word or phrase that is on their "restricted" list, meaning that it looks like an Adult product. Sometimes it's easy to spot the trigger word, but not always. Have a friend look over the ads with you to see if you see anything that might be taken a different way than you intended. The other possibility is that some shopper has flagged your listing because they feel that it is mis-categorized or that it violates one of the listing guidelines for Marketplace. LL's staff doesn't have the time to go looking for things like that themselves, but if someone calls their attention to a questionable listing, they will investigate and sometimes unlist the item if they agree. You ought to be able to get clarification by contacting their support staff.
  6. We can't help unless you tell us about your computer (What kind is it? What graphics card? What operating system? What type of Internet connection?) and your viewer (V1, V2, Firestorm, Phoenix, Singularity ....?). It would also really help to know what error messages you are getting and exactly what happens as you crash. That's at least a start. Anything else you can think of might help too. To add to your question, click on the Options link in its upper right corner and select EDIT. Please do NOT start a new thread. Oh, and Cinn is right ..... quit yelling. It doesn't help at all.
  7. Ummmmm .... You have not been awarded a "Representative of Linden." Representative Linden is the name of the person (or multiple people) who watches over the forums. Read my own post -- the one that you just attached your note to. Your new role is Recognized Resident. To see what this means, take a look at http://community.secondlife.com/t5/help/faqpage/faq-category-id/ranksroles#ranksroles .
  8. Why not just use your in-world browser? It's built in to your viewer and is perhaps the fastest way to view a web page on your own screen.
  9. Princess Verwood wrote: [...]While I cannot imagine anyone still using a viewer that doesnt support alpha layers, there probably are those hard-headed users who refuse to update or maybe users who do not know to update.[...] Or can't update. Some people are using V1 codebase viewers because the V2 generation of viewers simply won't run on their computers. There is still even a small handful of people whose computers don't have SSE, which is required for all recent viewers and has been built in to virtually all computers sold after 2004. Those computers will finally die some day. Until then, though, their owners need to have invisiprim shoes (or go barefoot).
  10. What do you wear that needs 100 scripts? I normally wear about 10 scripts, for a total memory load of less than 400Kb, and I could do without some of that, if I'm being honest about what I "need." Viewers have good radars, flight assists, and AO's built in to them these days (better than the separate ones, and certainly less laggy), so you don't need half of the HUDs we used to. Hair now has one resizer/recolor script instead of one per prim, and you can even get rid of that one (after all, how many times do you need to resize your hair?). Same thing with bling in jewelry -- one script per necklace, not one per bead. I have a hard time coming up with ways to hang 100 scripts on my body, and I really have a hard time thinking of 100 that I "need."
  11. 1. You can always take things off your own body. 2. Nobody else can ever take anything off your body, unless you give them permission (as with RLV). That's the way SL works, except for rezzing issues. Those are just fate.
  12. That would certainly help .... unless the group owner was a spammer, but that's the case with group notices now. :smileytongue: In any case, there's no way to get the information with a script, which is what you were after.
  13. I'm getting some random glitchiness when I just rotate on Z, too. I've been experimenting wih door scripts. I can create a keyframe - driven door that works beautifully, but one that I Shift-drag a copy of will sometimes have a funny elliptical drift as it rotates. It's frustrating. This is SUCH an easy way to create a smooth rotating door, but that little unpredictable drift during the movement is annoying.
  14. Why not just grab the saved contents in the old file and copy them into the new one? There's nothing magical about a file name. If the new viewer wants to use a name with an underscore in it, let it. All you really care about is still having access to all of your old logs, right?
  15. Very wierd, and your workaround is as good as mine. It doesn't solve the root problem, but it gets your product working.
  16. Hi, Pam. Yes, I never figured out what causes that problem, so my solution was to add a note to the product that warns users not to add more than 32 copies of the same thing to its inventory. It's the chicken's way out, but in my case it wasn't much of a limitation. My product is a dance machine, and it's copiable. If a buyer expects to have more than 32 people dancing at once -- a rare occurrence in most places -- he can always put up a second machine. Finding a real solution to the problem is still on my To Do list. Now if YOU find a solution, plase let me know .....
  17. No. That would be handy, but it would also make life VERY easy for spammers, who would love to get the membership lists for some of the really big groups in SL. Be glad that it's not possible. However, it's fairly easy to make your own membership list if your group is by invitation only and you are willing to do a little manual labor. Write yourself a simple script that asks potential members to click to join, then have your script collect the person's name for the database while it sends you a note so you can add them to the group.
  18. Try posting your question in the Wanted section of the Commerce forum, where someone might be likely to see it. >>>http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Wanted/bd-p/Wanted
  19. Almost certainly not. The building still has his name on it, not yours. Until he has transferred it to you, you don't have any rights to it, even if you have already paid the builder some L$.

    is this truth?

In addition to the post that Griffin mentions, I reposted several times (with his permission) Rhett Linden's response when this same rumor appeared in the SL Educators list on September 21, 2011: "This caught my eye and I wanted to set the record straight. We are not planning to do anything with your accounts or alt accounts. It's in our interest to ensure you have access to your account." Hence, the rumor is NOT true, as many of us have said.
  21. Dump all of the names of detected avatars into a list and use a timer event to scroll through the list, displaying one new name in each time step and removing an old one. It may be a little chaotic if the list changes rapidly because a lot of people are coming and going, but under normal circumstances, it should work.
  23. Yes, but you will need to sell the Lindens first, so that you have a dollar balance to pay from. Just go to your dashboard at secondlife.com and click in the Lindex link to sell L$.
  24. 1. Open Preferences → Network & Cache 2. Go to the first path “Cache Location” and click the “Open” button behind the path. This will open a file explorer window displaying your current cache location. (You can also look for the %APPDATA% location on your computer.) 3. Logout (close the viewer) and then delete everything inside the cache folder displayed in your file explorer. Now continue as follows: 1.Log back into SL, to a quiet region (try Smith or Pooley). On your inventory window, click “Recent Items”. 2.Wait for your inventory to repopulate fully. The process may be sped up, if necessary, by typing random letters into the search bar. 3.While inventory repopulates, do not teleport anywhere, and do not attempt to access anything in your inventory. Talk to people or surf the web, or just go out for coffee 4.Watch as it repopulates. As long as you can see (Fetched…) at the top of the inventory window, it is still loading. 5.Once inventory has repopulated, log out of SL once more, then log back in.
