  1. It depends on how much trouble you want to go to. If you want your av to be at a specific spot, the best solution I can think of is to do what photographers in SL often do. Put a prim at the spot and include a short script that is essentially a pose stand. Load it with the stand animations that you are likely to want, and then stand. I have a full perm multipose stand in the LSL Scripting Library that ought to do the trick for you >>> http://community.secondlife.com/t5/LSL-Library/Multipose-Stand/td-p/722759 Another possibility, again involving a script, is to create a moveable pose stand that you control with your arrow keys -- essentially a non-physical vehicle. Again, I have a script in the LSL Scripting Library that you could adapt to the task with little trouble >>> http://community.secondlife.com/t5/LSL-Library/Walking-through-walls/td-p/1390043 . You can make the movement adjustments as small as you like by changing the increments in each of the statements in the control event. Currently, each tap of the arrow keys moves you 0.05m, but you could make it 0.01m (1 cm).
  2. I suggest starting small. It's great to have a project in mind -- something you can work toward -- but it's a good idea to get some basics under your belt first. I suggest working with a few of the tutorials at https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/LSL_Tutorial . There's a nice array of them, some on line and some in world. You might also consider taking a class at someplace like Builders Brewery. Then get hold of a handful of freebie full perm scripts (there are thousands in SL) and start taking them apart to see how they tick. Modify them beyond recognition until they become yours. Keep you eye on that long-term goal, but remember that the real challenge in scripting is logic, not syntax. Developing your skills at logic takes practice with a wide variety of problems, so it doesn't happen overnight. BTW, off-world hosting of a script is not necessarily any more or less stable than in-world, and it requires a much trickier approach to scripting (and usually more than one scripting language). Almost all HUDs in SL are handled entirely in world.
  3. That sounds like a "sign" from your computer's operating system, not from Second Life. It's telling you that .... well, your connection is lost. Check your modem and router to be sure that they are both sending and receiving signals from the Internet. Are other programs working (your web browser and e-mail)? Check with your ISP to see if they are having trouble. If that's not what's happening, try adding some information to your question that might help us give a better answer. The exact error message might help, for example. Just click the Options link in the upper right corner of your question and select EDIT. Please do NOT start a new thread.
  4. You can't do that with a folder. When you have multiple pieces to sell (or you want to add a LM, a notecard of some kind, or a photo), just package everything in an attractive box, be sure it has the proper permissions, and drop the box in your Magic Box. Your customer will buy the box, rez it, and open it to get all the stuff inside. See http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Selling-objects/ta-p/700143#How_to_open_and_sell_boxes for more information.
  5. If you bought them in world, then the number that is in the upper right corner of your screen is probably out of sync with the REAL balance, which is in your Account >> Transaction History on your dashboard at http://secondlife.com. Check there before you panic. You can usually get the inworld number to update by simply clicking on it (the number, not the "But" button --- not to buy anything but just to make it wake up.
  6. You can't, at least not exactly. The Marketplace store (not XStreetSL, which hasn't existed for over a year) is tied directly to your account. It can't be shared. However, you can share any L$ that you receive from sales. The revenue distributions feature allows payments to be automatically distributed among multiple Residents. For example, you might share profits with a co-creator of the item; forward a percentage to the owner of the item's brand, if you are a sales affiliate; or send the proceeds to an alt account you use for holding and selling L$. Distributions are based on percentages, not fixed dollar amounts. You control revenue distributions by clicking Add Distribution on the Edit item listing page. You can of course make an informal agreement with your partner completely outside of Marketplace as well. The same is true of the things you sell. Your partner can create objects and give them to you to add to your Magic Box, assuming that the permissions don't get messed up along the way.
  7. Nope. You may use the following payment methods with Second Life: Visa American Express MasterCard Delta Online JCB Discover (U.S. Residents only) Visa Electron (non-U.S. Residents only) PayPal
  8. We can't do a thing for you because we are all SL resident just like you. There are no Lindens here. As you have learned, inventory does not stay around forever in a cancelled account. The longer you wait before re-activating a closed account, the greater the probablity that your inventory and L$ will be gone forever. You also know that it's only possible to transfer L$ and transferable inventory items between accounts. You won't be able to move non-transferable things from your old account to a new one even if the inventory is intact after you re-activate the old account. To re-activate an account, file a support ticket at https://support.secondlife.com/create-case/ >> Account Issue >> Reactivate an Old Account . If you have problems with it, you may be able to get some help from LL's billing office. Toll-Free (US/Canada) 800.294.1067 Long-Distance 703.286.6277
  9. You can always get to the Lindex to buy L$ from your dashboard at http://secondlife.com . If your mobile device will support a web browser, you can get there.
  10. It's a bit tricky. The answer is generally no, it's not a good idea. The TOS (Sect 8.2) says, for example that you agree that you will not "Post, display or transmit Content that is harmful, threatening or harassing, defamatory, libelous, false, inaccurate, misleading, or invades another person's privacy." The unwritten clause is "even if the other guy is a real jerk and deserves it." The Community Standards also say "Sharing personal information about your fellow Residents without their consent -- including gender, religion, age, marital status, race, sexual preference, alternate account names, and real-world location beyond what is provided by them in their Resident profile -- is not allowed. Remotely monitoring conversations in Second Life, posting conversation logs, or sharing conversation logs without the participants' consent are all prohibited." Again, even if the other guy is a real jerk and deserves it. Notice that it doesn't say that you are forbidden to share another person's public SL information (the stuff that's in their Resident profile, like their user name or Display Name). You just can't say things about them that are "harmful, threatening or harassing, defamatory, libelous, false, inaccurate, misleading, or invades another person's privacy", and you can't share transcripts of chat or IMs without their permission. There's a lot of weasel room in that language, and the ultimate judge is Linden Lab. They make the rules and they can decide when someone crosses the line. IMO, the wisest advice is that if you have to ask whether it's OK to spread stories about someone, the answer is probably no. At least be careful about how you say it. BTW, you didn't ask about what you can say here in the Forums. Our comunity guidelines here say "If you have a personal disagreement, do not post about it on the Second Life community pages. Residents who have personal differences have other channels of communication available to them — private messaging in the forums, IM within Second Life, or chatting within Second Life. .... name-calling and airing of grievances are not appropriate in our discussion areas." Again, there's room in how to interpret that language. LL has given their moderators the responsibility for judging what's "too much". They can pull a post or thread that they think breaks the rule, and can even ban you from the forums if they decide it's warranted.
  11. Linden Lab does not accept most (any?) debit cards. You'll have to use a credit card. You may use the following payment methods with Second Life: Visa American Express MasterCard Delta Online JCB Discover (U.S. Residents only) Visa Electron (non-U.S. Residents only) PayPal
  12. @Anaiya -- I can appreciate your perspective. I find the "busy" option awkward and annoying so I rarely use it myself, but I do value my quiet work time and will protect it against unwanted intrusion. Aside from occasionally being annoyed, though, I see little need to disable a very useful function -- one that I rely on fairly heavily. I am not generally interested in finding out when someone is on line, but it's very important to me to know when they leave. I manage a fairly large team of volunteers who come in world to be available as mentors (librarians, actually, but that's basically their function). It's important for potential users of our service to know when someone is available, so each volunteer logs in by clicking a HUD when s/he's available. My system shows potential users that a librarian is on duty somewhere in SL, and it keeps track of how long the librarian was available. It does that second job by logging the librarian OFF when s/he either clicks the HUD to log out, or when s/he logs out of SL. We have several years of statistical data -- potentially useful for RL granting agencies and our RL sponsoring/partnering institutions -- to show how much time our staff puts in weekly, so having reliable login information is important to us. It's also important for potential users to know when a a librarian is really available, and hasn't just left SL without turning off the HUD. Removing the DATA_ONLINE functionality would break our system completely. As others in this thread have commented, there are an endless number of other practical, legitimate uses for DATA_ONLINE, many of which would become difficult or impossible to serve another way. We can have philosophical differences of opinion about how much privacy we each feel comfortable with, but the practical matter is that a great many merchants and service groups in SL depend on the functionality of DATA_ONLINE. It makes little sense to me to let the relatively small inconvenience that we all feel when someone knows we are in world outweigh the benefits of being able to see who else is around.
  13. Nobody here can help unless you tell us what's wrong. "Can not log in" is not a diagnosis. You'll need to tell us what happens when you try. How far through the login process do you get? What error messages do you see? Have you ever been able to log in before? What kind of computer do you have? What graphics card does it have? What kind of Internet connection? What have you already tried (A different viewer maybe? A different computer? A different login site? Check your firewall? .....) If you have useful information to share, add it to your question by clicking on the Options link in its upper right corner and selecting EDIT. Please do NOT start a new thread.
  14. Why do you care? Why live like a turtle inside a shell, in fear of unnamed bad guys? Your RL identity is unknown unless you choose to divulge it, so why do you care if anyone knows that your virtual identity is awake? I find the culture of paranoia totally puzzling.
  15. Follow Val's instructions. If you aren't using Phoenix, just TP to another sim and back again. That's enough to re-render the person.
  16. Val is right. Also note that in order to play Flash format videos (eg YouTube videos), you must have the generic Adobe Flash plugin installed. If you use IE as your web browser and already have Flash, you will need to get the generic Flash plugin; see here. linux users need to have gstreamer installed, with the “bad” plugin set.
  17. Exactly. And the data could be anything helpful. The most obvious bit to send is the person's UUID, but you could send his/her position too if you thought that was useful. The object_rez event is very handy that way. So is the final parameter in the llRezAtRoot parameter list, which can be any integer or something coded as an integer.
  18. I don't know. I just added the group and will wait to see what happens. I suppose that LL will eventually have a filtering process of some kind.
  19. I'm not sure exactly what you are looking for, but take a look at http://wiki.phoenixviewer.com/web_profile . You may be looking for the information under the People tab.
  20. Yes, it's possible. How you do it depends on exactly what you want to accomplish. Basically, you need to start a timer on rez, let it run fo 10 seconds, and then do something when it's triggered. The "something" is what you have to decide. Do you want the rezzed object to just stop where it is? Vanish? Explode? Move around and block your path? Once you decide, put the relevant commands in the timer event and you're done.

Leander Tyles wrote: [...] i will use your solution if thats the only way, im wondering if changing the size/shape of the prim during transportation will help, maybe i can even change sit target then change it back when tp returns It's certainly the easiest way. Why make the job any more complicated than it has to be? I don't understand why you are resisting changing a number. BTW, don't bother using WarpPos. Not only was WarpPos superceded by PosJump a long time ago, both were made obsolete earlier this year. They depended on a hack that LL has now largely invalidated, and we have a much better solution in the new function llSetRegionPos.
  22. Leander Tyles wrote: cant realy raise the seat, [...] i guess i have no choice but too change the z value to a height greater than expected, i was hoping for a better solution realy because if i ever move the platform then i have to calculate it all out again. Sorry. That's what I mean by "raise the seat." It's not "cheating," to use the phrase from your original note. It''s the solution. Your seat arrives too low for the platform. You have been getting away with it until now because your old animation evidently had you stand up a bit higher than the new one. So, instead of aiming for 89m, try 90 or 91.
  23. Nope. On their turf, they make the rules. They can ban you if they like, and they don't even have to have a reason. LL won't get invoved with a dispute like this at all.
  24. That's nobody's business but the person(s) behind the avatars. You can ask, but they don't have to tell you. One of the nice things about SL is that we are assured through the TOS that our RL identities cannot be revealed. In fact, if you discover and share someone's RL information, that can be grounds for being banned from SL.
  25. Yes. Change the Z-value in your teleporter. :smileytongue: Your TP seat is aimed too low, so when you stand up from the new sit target, you are below the platform. Raise the seat.
