  1. Wouldn't it be more helpful to do that in the SL forums somewhere instead of over in SLU? It's going to be virtually invisible to anyone but the "old pros".
  2. O.... K. So how are we supposed to know whether odd behavior is a previously reported bug or whether it's our own unique problem? And how are we supposed to benefit from the workarounds that usually get posted in the JIRA?
  3. 1. Pick up all your stuff, one item at a time, and take it back to inventory. 2. Stand in your house, click the Land icon at the top of your screen (or select World >> About Land), and then click Abandon Land. 3. Buy a parcel of land anywhere on the mainland. The monthly tier for the first 512 sq m of that land is free. You pay land fees on anything over that. See http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Buying-land/ta-p/700043 for more information.
  4. You can always hear typed chat within 20m (50m for shouted chat) of the person who's typing, even if the person is across a sim boundary. Unlike voice, which can be restricted to the parcel, typed chat knows no limit.
  5. There's not really much that anyone here can do. You haven't told us enough to know what the problem is, so it's anyone's guess what the best solution might be. I sincerely doubt that you have run into a hacker in world, however. It is essentially impossible to get into your account unless you have told someone your password (and even if you had, that's not hacking). You also can't "download" an update to your viewer from inside SL. From what little you have told us, it sounds like you picked up some kind of annoying object wherever you were. You can add more to this post to explain exactly what happened and what problem you seem to be having now. Just click on the Options link in the upper right corner of your question and select EDIT. Please do NOT start a new thread.
  6. Oui, c'est tout à fait normal. Même dans un bon jour, le wifi est un mauvais choix dans Second Life. Vous aurez beaucoup plus de chance avec un câble de connexion directe à Internet.
  7. If you look at other posts in this Answers forum today, you will find several others like yours. Apparently you are not alone. My guess is that the problem is somehow related to the unscheduled maintenance that LL has been doing today. I suggest taking a break and trying again later, or maybe tomorrow.
  8. You won't get much here either. We are not Lindens and Lindens never come here. We are all SL residents like you. The best I can do is refer you to the Risk API page in the SL wiki, where you may be able to find the information that you are looking for >>> http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Linden_Lab_Official:Exchange_Risk_API
  9. I'd suggest moving your question to the LSL Scripting forum, where it will get more attention. As you do that, though, could you please try to clarify exactly what you are trying to do and what the problem is? I am a pretty experienced scripter, and I am having a hard time understanding your post despite having re-read it a half dozen times.
  10. Not if the creators haven't filed a DMCA complaint. If someone had been copying things that I made, I probably wouldn't even know about it.
  11. It sounds as if you have tripped over https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-28843 . If you have recently installed Microsoft's SkyDrive or the comparable Cloud Drive program on your computer, it will interfere with several kinds of file operations in Second Life, causing you to crash. You have two possible solutions: (1) remove SkyDrive from your computer or (2) follow the instructions written by Latif Khalifa in the JIRA that I referenced above. Both solutions work.
  12. You have found the web site of a company called DMCA.com, which is in the business of filing DMCA lawsuits on behalf of clients. DCMA.com is not a law. It is a company is trying to sell you their service. You do not need that company or any other company to file a complaint for you under the Digital Millenium Copyright Act. You do it yourself, following the instructions that Innula and I have both given you. If you follow those instructions, Linden Lab is required by United States federal law to act on your complaint. You do not need to do anything else. You do not need a lawyer. Here is the entire text of the Digital Millenium Copyright Act, in case you are interested in reading it >>> http://www.copyright.gov/legislation/hr2281.pdf
  13. You have done the correct thing by going to the RL police. Stalking is a crime. Continue to file reports on every incident. Hire a lawyer if necessary to get a no-contact injunction. This is a serious matter. As you have discovered, it is almost impossible to hide in SL. People follow predictable patterns. They shop in the same places day after day, meet with the same friends, and they visit clubs and other favorite spots. It doesn't take much detective skill or many special tools to find you unless you stay home on a private sim all the time. You know who he is, though, so be sure to mute him. If he does anything that violates the TOS, file a complete Abuse Report immediately, but do not mention it to him. Do not respond to him in any way or acknowledge his presence. Pretend that he does not exist. If you are lucky, he will either assume that he has found the wrong person or will get tired and just go away.
  14. It is unnecessary to use a lawyer. You do not need to go to a DMCA web site either. Here are the complete instructions for filing a DMCA complaint with Linden Lab: A written notification must be made. This can be done either by fax or written letter (regular mail or courier). Emails will not be accepted unless a prior arrangement has been made. The notification must: Identify in sufficient detail the copyrighted work that you believe has been infringed upon (i.e., describe the work that you own). Identify the in-world item that you claim is infringing on your copyright, and provide information reasonably sufficient to locate the item in-world. For example "The allegedly infringing work I am referring to is located on the map area labeled 'Freelon, 104,30,56'." Provide a reasonably sufficient method of contacting you; phone number and email address would be preferred. (Optional) Provide information, if possible, sufficient to permit us to notify the user(s) who posted the content that allegedly contains infringing material. You may also provide screenshots or other materials that are helpful to identify the works in question. (This is for identification only, not to "prove" substantive claims.) Include the following statement: "I have good faith belief that the use of the copyrighted materials described above and contained on the service is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or by protection of law." Include the following statement: "I swear, under penalty of perjury, that the information in the notification is accurate and that I am the copyright owner or am authorized to act on behalf of the owner of an exclusive right that is allegedly infringed." Sign the paper Please note: The DMCA provides that you may be liable for damages (including costs and attorneys fees) if you falsely claim that an in-world item is infringing your copyrights. We recommend contacting an attorney if you are unsure whether an in-world object is protected by copyright laws. Send the written document to the designated Copyright Agent at Linden Research: Linden Research, Inc. Attn: Designated Copyright Agent 945 Battery Street San Francisco, CA 94111
  16. You didn't say where your Linden Home is, so there's no way for me to check, but it's possible that the sim is off line. One way to figure that out for yourself is to TP to a neighboring sim and then fly to the border with your own. If the sim isn't there, you'll have your answer. You can report a sim off line by filing a support ticket at https://support.secondlife.com/create-case/ .Use the category Land & Region >> Report an Offline Region. LL acts on those reports quite quickly.
  17. In order to play Flash format videos (eg YouTube videos), you must have the generic Adobe Flash plugin installed. If you use IE as your web browser and already have Flash, you will need to get the generic Flash plugin; see here. linux users need to have gstreamer installed, with the “bad” plugin set. If videos are not playing or you have a black or blank search page, please do the following: Go to Avatar → Preferences → Sound & Media Make sure the “Enabled” checkbox to the right of the “Media” slider is checked (For audio, check “Streaming Music”) Check “Allow resident scripts to play media” Make sure you have updated both Flash Player and Quicktime. See above concerning the Flash plugin. Make sure the issue is not with the specific television you are using, by attempting to view videos on a television that plays video normally for other Firestorm users. Make sure that “Enable plugins” is ticked in Preferences → Network & Cache, else Flash Player or Quicktime can not be executed, and you may see a message saying: Adobe Flash Player or an HTML5 supported browser is required for video playback.
  18. What's your account balance like? If you don't have L$ in your account, you won't be able to pay for uploading, so the option will be grayed out.
  19. None at all. I assume that you have just done the same Google search that I have and have found no links relating Trackir 4 Pro and Second Life. You will find some links in the SL wiki relating to using joysticks (for example >>> http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Joystick_Flycam ), but nothing about the Trackir 4 Pro.
  20. It's not surprising that you can still hear the music. After all, a "radio" in SL is just a scripted shortcut for changing the parcel media stream. As long as you have permission to change the stream (which you do, if you are the owner of the parcel), then you can always change the stream yourself in About Land >> Sound without using a radio. Now, your radio has probably been returned to your inventory in a spot where you didn't expect it .... like Lost & Found. The easiest way to find it is to open the Recent tab in inventory and then click the little gear icon in the lower left corner to set filters. Look for things added to inventory during the past couple of days.
  21. That's interesting. Why not? What happens when you try? BTW, you seem to have two "family" groups with closed enrollment. One has 15 members and the other has 19. It doesn't look as if you're having trouble adding members to either one. If you'd like to add more information to explain what you mean, click on the Options link in the upper right corner of your question and select EDIT. Please do NOT start a new thread.
  22. Go to your dashboard at secondlife.com and navigate to Account >> Delete Account. Then hope that you never change your mind. If you do, and want to recover your av and its inventory, it will cost you $9.95. All things considered, it's easier to simply walk away and abandon the account. Then, if you change your mind and come back it won't cost you a penny. The only thing you need to be sure of before you walk away is that you have abandoned or sold any land and have left any groups that charge you a group liability.
  23. If there is, it's a closely guarded secret inside Linden Lab, not published anywhere. I suspect that it changes hourly anyway.
  24. It may mean that your firewall or your anti-virus routine has flagged the slplugin.exe program as an evil intruder. You will need to tell both programs that they are mistaken. Here's how to do it with your firewall program >>> http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Using-Second-Life-with-a-firewall/ta-p/1304539 . Look here for information about creating an exception in your antivirus routine >>> http://wiki.phoenixviewer.com/antivirus_whitelisting
