  2. The shoes look fine (or as fine as they ever did) if I keep lighting and shadows turned off, but turning it on causes the problem described above. It seems like a pretty easy task to make a suitable alpha mask (I have made my own to use with mesh clothing when the ones that came with it didn't work well.), especially after I get the first one right. I want to have lighting and shadows on, and I want to look good to others who have it on.
  3. I have been in SL over five years. I can't remember when they did what, but I cannot remember a time when you could really keep people from finding out you were online. People have been asking for years for the ability to be online without others being able to tell, just like not answering the phone or the door in RL, but LL has not done anything about it. My conclusion is that, for whatever reason, LL does not want people to really be able to conceal their status. It might interest you to know that at one time all friends could see your location all the time, and you couldn't turn it off.
  4. Yes, it will belong to the group and not to you, and will not show up in the list of land you own. However, you, or someone else, will have to donate enough tier to the group to cover the land if you want the group to be able to keep it. Also, when you get rid of land, you tier does not automatically go down; you have to decrease it yourself on the Web.
  5. Thanks. Is it necessary to remove the invisiprim, or can I just ignore it?
  6. You need to look in the group profile of the group that owns the land. In the Roles window, on the Roles tab, select the role that the people you want to be able to terraform have. The under Allowed Abilities at the bottom, scroll down to Parcel Powers, and check "Always allow 'Edit terrain.' Then click the save button.
  7. On the General tab of the parcel properties, check "Allow deed to group," and, optionally, check "Owner makes contribution with deed." Then click the Set button. ETA: If you want to be certain of being able to get it back, or to receive the proceeds if it is sold, make sure you own the group.
  8. Since invisiprims are broken, I have been replacing a lot of shoes. I have found very nice pumps, flats, boots, and athletic shoes that work fine. I am having trouble finding sandals, because the only ones I can find that don't rely on invisiprims have prim feet, which I don't want because I can never get a good color match. I thought of a solution. I can't see any reason that it wouldn't work, but would like to know if others think so, too. The problem I have with the invisiprim shoes is that a terribly deformed rear part of my foot sticks down though the sole of the shoe. It seems to me that I could make an alpha mask for just the part that needs to be hidden and that it might be the same, and certainly would be similar, for most shoes. Does this sound right?
  9. I'm having to replace a lot of shoes since invisiprims don't work anymore. I have found nice athletic shoes, boots. and pumps, but have not found any nice high-heel sandals that don't use prim feet so far. (I can never get a good color match with prim feet.) It may not be possible to make what I am looking for. Does anyone have a suggestion? Thanks.

If it were possible to conceal online status from people using the standard LL viewer, I would understand, but it's not. All you have to do to find out if I'm online is send me an IM, notecard, or object, or look at a group we both belong to. Many people, including me, have been asking for years for the ability to actually conceal our online status, the equivalent of closing the blinds and not answering the phone or door in RL, and LL has refused to make it possible. I don't understand how a viewer that makes it a little easier to do what is already easy with the standard viewer violates anyone's privacy. AFAIK, as it stands the only way to be online without anyone else who cares to finding out is to use an alt that no one knows about. Perhaps I'm missing something. If I am, please tell me what.
  11. Any concern about seeing online status is a joke. Many people have, over the years, requested a way to truly make online status private. LL has ignored them. All you have to do to find out if anyone is online is send an IM or look at a group you both belong to. So what's the problem if a viewer makes finding out a little easier?
  12. I read it, after I finally found it. Can somebody tell me what "...any feature that alters the shared experience of the virtual world in any way not provided by or accessible to users of the latest released Linden Lab viewer" actually means? Maybe I'm just missing something. If I am, please tell me. It seems to me that LL regularly announces important changes by posting something in an obscure place where most residents won't see it. Why aren't such things announced on the blog and the startup screen, where many more people would see them?

Annie Melson wrote: Now in most newer viewers you can wear multiple layers, like 2 jackets at a time, in order to acheive this look, but there are still many people using older viewers without the "Add" feature. So in this way having the Combo option is a good one. But again, this makes for a HUGE folder.... II tend to forget that people are still using pre-V2 and V3 viewers. However, since the later viewers have so many features that make dealing with clothing better and more efficient---mesh, outfits with links, the ability to wear multiple items in each clothing layer, tattoo layer, the ability to wear multiple attachments on each point---that most people with a strong interest in clothing and avatar appearance would be using them.
  14. In general, I like having a lot of choices. I must say that it escapes me completely why anyone would want a tank top and polo shirt combined in one layer. There is very much less need for having the same garment in multiple layers since we can wear multiple things of the same layer. For example, I can see no reason to have something that will never be worn over anything that is not underwear or under anything that is underwear, e.g., a tank top , as anything but shirt or pants layer. I do like to have many tops as both jacket and shirt+underpants, so that I can wear them with the tail outside or inside pants. It would be nice if designers made the names of such garments descriptive, i.e., named the underpants "tucked shirttail." I think that as mesh clothing becomes more common and accepted, there will be less and less need to be concerned about multiple layers of anything. I think of a mesh outfit that I wear a lot lately. I wear underwear layer pants and bra, socks, shirt layer tee shirt, and mesh shirt, pants and boots. I could dress the same if the bra and tee shirt were both shirts or both undershirts; the only combination that wouldn't work would be a shirt layer bra, which I can see no reason for anyone to be making now that we have a tattoo layer, and an undershirt layer tee shirt, which, with the flexibility that being able to wear multiple shirt layers gives us, I can see no reason for anyone to be still making.
  15. I was a basic member for a year, and have been a premium member for four years. I intend to continue premium membership as long as I am in SL. The one benefit that I think makes it very worthwhile is support, particularly chat support. About once a year, I have a major problem that I get solved in real time. Twice, Lindens came to my house to fix something. I can also get the mainland sim where I live restarted when it needs to be. If you pay for premium membership annually, as I do, it costs 72 USD per year, or 6 USD per month. The L$300 per week stiopend is worth enough to make the cost negligable. If you don't want to use it, you can rent out the 512 square meter land allowance you get for L$75 per week; if you do that, you'll actually make a few dollars a year by being a premium member. The only reasons that I can think of for not being a premium member are not being reasonably sure that you want to stay in SL on the account in question for a year and not being able to pay the 72 USD up front.

I have decided that if someone puts something hideous up within my view, I am going to derender it! :smileyvery-happy: Good solution! A substantial part of my view looks off the edge of the world, so I will see unobstructed ocean until LL decides to expand Zindra, and it doesn't look like that will be any time soon.
  17. Zanara Zenovka wrote: Problem is, renting for your primary business location is fraught with risk, no matter how "reliable" the landlord is. I have been renting tier from the same people for approximately four years. During that time, they have been unfailingly reliable and responsive. Sure, there is no guarantee that the future will be like the past, but they do have a good record. there are at least three of them who ar RL friends and relatives, so they have good depth in terms of someone being available when needed. The only thing I've need them for was to rent me more tier when I wanted to buy more land. I would think that in most cases where a business owner wanted to add a small amount of land that would put her into the next tier bracket that she could divide her land into one large plot that contained important things and a smaller plot that contained only unimportant things. She could create a second land group to own the smaller plot and rent the necessary tier, so that she would incur no risk at all to anything important.
  18. As I said above, you can rent any amount of tier you need for people who are in the business of renting it out. If you want contact info for them, send me a PM here or an IM in world.
  19. One thing to consider is that the cost of tier per square meter (or per prim) is less on larger parcels, so if a landowner owns a mainland sim. It costs her 0.0029 USD (195.00/65536) per square meter per week. When all costs and benefits are considered, a premium membership costs very little, if paid annually. Net of the stipend, at current exchange rate, it costs 7.00 USD per year. ( 72 - ((300 x 52)/240) = 7). So the 512 square meters you get with it is really cheap, at 0.0011 USD per square meter per month. For any beyond that, though, it costs a lot more for small holdings. That next 1024 square meters will cost you 5.00 USD per month, or 0.0048 USD per square meter per month. I don't know enough about actual rental rates to say what they are, but there a person certainly could make money by renting whole sims from LL and renting out small parcels at prices that beat what a resident would have to pay LL as tier for the same sized parcel.
  20. Polenth Yue wrote: People decide someone is copybotting because they stood still for five minutes... That is scary to me. Countless times when I have been shopping, something happened in RL to make me suddenly go AFK, leaving my avatar standing in a store anywhere from a couple of minutes to a couple of hours, I imagine that many others do that. I guess that I must have been fortunate to be patronizing stores owned by non-paranoid people. Seriously, it seems to me that there is something wrong with assuming that behavior for which there is a perfectly innocent explanation means that someone is doing something wrong.
  21. There is an easy solution. You can rent tier from other residents. The way it works is that you make a group to own the land (which by itself gives you a ten percent bonus), and you pay someone who has more tier than she needs to donate it to your group. There are people who make a business of doing this.
  22. I have a friend who hates it because she loves HER shape. I love mesh clothing. Well-done (not all are) mesh skirts look so much better than any others, and sweaters look like sweaters. I think desingers in general have not fully developed their mesh skills yet. I agree that it's not the best situation to have to accept what amounts to a shape chosen by a clothing maker. However, I have some things that come in five sizes, so it's not an huge problem. Also, for loose clothing that doesn't closely follow body shape, like sweaters, it's not a problem. My attitude about price is that an exxceptionally good product is worth paying more for. One good side effect of mesh is that designers have to offer demos, so I can actually see what a germent looks like on me before I buy, just like RL.I have bought a lot of clothing that did not look nearly as good on me as it did in the picture. Some was so bad I just deleted it.
  23. I think LL used to rent sims for short periods. I would think that anyone who had one for sale would be happy to rent it out for a day.
