  1. You have cleared your cache and made sure you have the latest driver for your graphics card, I presume. I cannot offer anything else. Years ago, on a V1 viewer, I had a similar intermittent bug. The Windows toolbar would show on my avatar.
  2. Perhaps you are on no-script land.
  3. I'm just curious. I don't understand how anyone could change someone else's avatar. How is that done?
  4. I love mesh clothing. I often find something really nice, only to find when I try the demo that the alpha mask provided would have to be modified just a little to work for me. Usually, I can't modify it because I don't have the texture, so I either forgo the item or create an alpha mask from scratch. Since, usually, the adjustment needed is small, like making one edge of the transparent area extend just a little farther, it would be considerably easier to modify a texture than to create one. An added bonus from having the texture is that more than one can be put on the same alpha layer, so that the alpha layer slots don't all get filled. Designers, will you please consider including modifiable, copyable alpha texture(s) with your mesh clothing?
  5. Thanks soooooooo much, Chelsea. Those are exactly what I need.
  6. I love mesh clothing, and I, on principle, refuse to change my shape to fit clothing---that's just backward! I spent the last few hours shopping for mesh clothes. I found several items that I really liked and that looked very good, except that the included alpha layers stopped just a little short of where they needed to in places, spoiling the look. I have decided that, if I am going to be able to enjoy mesh clothing to the fullest, I must make my own alpha layers. I know how to do it; I just made one as a test. I can eventually make what I need through trial and error. However, it would make it very much easier if I had maps (I don't know the right nomenclature.) that would let me see, when working on the texture, what part would be on what part of the avatar when worn as an alpha layer. Are such "maps" available? Where?
  7. I'm pretty unsophisticated about this stuff. I can tell that you think someone's copyright is being violated, but beyond that, I can't tell what you are talking about. What is your specific complaint? The pix you linked to are mostly of things that don't look to me worth stealing.
  8. I LOVE mesh clothes. So much that I'm pretty much not buying anything else. The best mesh clothing that I have found is at mon tissu. I have high hopes for mesh hair, but have found none that I liked enough to buy yet. All of the mesh hair that I've found so far looks like the hair of several years ago with relatively few big prims. A good side effect of mesh is that clothing demos are available, so that I can try something on before I buy it. I really like that. Many times, I have bought layer and/or prim clothing only to find that it looked on me nothing like it did in the picture in the shop. I wish the SL clothing creator community would develop a standardized size system like we have in RL. I think it would be simple: just agree on a few standard avatar shapes that represent the sizes.
  9. I don't think so. I, and others, have tried to interest hair designers in producing hair that works with hats, but it seems that none are interested.
  10. I don't think that having no way to backup purchased items is a big a problem as it might seem, for two reasons. One is that a lot of merchants will replace items for free. The other is that as technology and the creators' art progressively impriove, so that old items become obsolescent because newer items of the same kind are better.
  11. I don't know if this would work, but you could try putting a mostly transparent white texture on all parts of a tattoo layer.

  13. My thought is, "If LL really wanted my input, this would be on my dashboard," and IT IS NOT! The last thing there is the December 23 post from Rodvik. More Linden opacity, I'd say. We need transparency.

I certainly wouldnt buy from HP again after my experiences with them. I'm in the US. My daughter has a built-to-order HP laptop that is a few years old and is her only computer, and has never had a bit of trouble with it. The only negative is that, when it was brand new, HP was asked for a Windows installation disk and refused to supply one, claiming that licensing restrictions prevented their doing so.

  18. Several months ago, Lee Quick, the developer of Kirsten's viewer, tested a number of video cards and concluded that the GTX 580 was the best for SL.
  19. Others on here surely know much more than I do. However, if you want to try for a futureproof machine, you should be aware that the X79 chipset is the latest Intel enthusiast chipset and that motherboards with it have socket 2011. I don't know what online sites are offering to build X79 computers, but I am sure some are. If I were in your position, I would specify a GTX 580 3 GB video card, an X79 motherboard, a second generation socket 2011 Core i7 3930K CPU, a good enough power supply to power them, an SSD large enough for Windows and SL, and as much RAM as my remaining budget would buy.
  20. I am glad to learn about this. I have had some intermittent problems, but didn't connect it to tattoo layers because I alweays wear three or four.
  21. Thanks to all the posters. After reading this thread, I know infinitely more than I did about lashes, and I will be trying some out. One thing to consider is that the number of tattoos that one can wear is quite limited, and it is easy to use up the capacity.

Ceka Cianci wrote: i know they get rated on search..which to me doesn't even make sense if they have to be general only LOL Isn't it sick that our society thinks that there is something offensive about the appearance of the human body? I presume that nudity in this context means showing genitals, anus, or female nipples. Would a profile pic which was a frontal view of me covering my nipples and genitalia with my hands be rated G? If not why, not? What if I got a skin with no nipples and no genitalia? Would it be acceptable to use a frontal view of it without clothing as a profile pic? If not, why not? I would not be showing anything that is normally required to be covered. Children are commonly allowed to play with nude dolls having the same lack of anatomic realism, and no one thinks anything about it. What's the difference? Couldn't help asking! /me grins
  23. Before I entered SL, I promised myself that I would never reveal my RL identity, or information that could reveal it. I have escorted in SL. It definitely would not be good for my RL career if that were known in RL. I am sometimes tempted to violate my promise and reveal something to a trusted friend, but I don't. Who knows, she just might be my RL boss.
