  1. Hi again ISGI, The ground and nearby objects load first. If your draw distance is set very high, it can take quite some time to load all the textures for things within view. You can lower your Draw Distance via Preferences->Graphics. I usually run between 64 and 128m. If you revisit the same sims often, their textures will remain in the cache and subsequent visits should load up quickly. You can increase the size of the cache in Preference->Network & Cache. You can also give SL more of your internet bandwidth via Preferences->Network & Cache. There's no need to set it above 1500kbps, as that's the maximum SL server speed on the other end, but the default is (as I recall) 500kbps, so moving to 1500 will cut your load times to a third. Good luck!
  2. Hi ISGI, I'll guess that you're in a no-rez area, or you've reached the prim limit. When you attempt to rez under such circumstances, your object will be returned to your "Lost and Found" folder. You usually get some kind of error message. Either move to a place that allows rezzing, or take back some other objects to make room. You can tell if you are in a no-rez area by looking for a box with the classic red "no" crossed circle over it, up in the address bar. If this is not the problem you're having, come back to edit your question with additional information. Do that via "Options" over there on the right. Good luck!
  3. Hi Cael, Come back to your question and edit it (via Options over there on the right) to give us more information. Which viewer are you using? Which OS? Have you tried an alternate viewer? Have you done a clean install of your current viewer? (Be careful to save chat logs and such if you want them.)
  4. Pffft! I use Mac/OS X and I've never had this problem. ;-)

  9. As Theresa says, if sims are doing down, it must be Tuesday. Linden Lab does post notifications of these events here... http://status.secondlifegrid.net Bookmark that link and check it whenever SL seems more flaky than usual.
  10. Hi Oberon, You heard correctly. Flash 11.7 seems to be the last version what works with SL. http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Second-Life-Viewer/Youtube-On-SL-TVs-and-FLASH-on-MAC-won-t-work/m-p/2512627/highlight/true#M22990 So, keep ignoring the update messages, at least until you see a resolution from Adobe.
  11. ObviousAltIsObvious wrote: yeah that. LL has always treated its web properties as a burden and spent the bare minimum on development and maintenance. the old, old forum sucked too because it was neglected. it's the same story for profiles, search, marketplace. this right here tells me all i need to know about Ebbe Altberg. he picked up right away on the main problem with so many SL things. https://twitter.com/ebbealtberg/status/436318996325875712 Absolutely! And thanks for finding that. I've questioned LL's competence for years, but I've always thought the problems were nearer the top than the bottom. And, though I'm sure it seems I use the term "incompetence" condescendingly, I'm also the first (or maybe the second) to point out my own incompetence. If you don't step just past your competence, you're not growing. And of course, we often lack the competence to recognize our own incompetence. Philip Rosedale has his followers, and I was certainly attracted to his vision for Second Life, but I think the reality is that a different kind of competence is required to make SL grow. Rodvik's gamer background and demeanor didn't seem like a good fit, either. But I am liking what I hear from Ebbe. I worked for a company that gave every opportunity to succeed, and accepted a hard won failure as a learning experience. As a result we took risks, worked hard, and failed efficiently enough to be the best in our industry. And before I go dreaming about improved web properties, I must remind myself that I don't know their true value. If, even when run well, a web property doesn't actually help, it should be closed.

Welcome to Second Life and the Forums, Gyptian! It's been three years since Commander Bowman crafted that ship. He's built quite a few more since then. Check his profile Picks for a link to LaGrange Spaceport and give him a visit. Hippie also teachs building classes at Helping Haven. Learn to build your own spaceship! I've done it, though mine often needs a tow...
  13. Hi Ian, The event posting mechanism is borked and every event posting is flagged as "adult". People have been complaining about it for days. You might want to file a Support Case. Here's the top of the chain of threads referring to this issue... http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Creation/Why-are-my-event-posts-being-marked-as-inappropriate/qaq-p/2526165

I've wandered other Lithium powered forums and found them to be spam free, full featured, highly trafficked and smooth running. I've come to the conclusion that LL is the culprit here, not Lithium. And for that reason, I've no reason to think that switching forum software would yield an improvement. I'd rather see them put at least a little effort into getting their deployment of Lithium to run even half as well as I've seen elsewhere.
  15. You must own a full sim before acquiring a homestead sim only if you are dealing directly with LL. You can rent a homestead from a third party land baron(ess) without being either a premium member or owning any other land.
  16. Hi Sub, If you resized the collar while wearing it, and it's now buried inside your neck, you can rez it on the ground to edit it. Rather than selecting "Add" or "Wear", just drag the collar from inventory to a safe place where you can rez it, and make sure that place isn't cluttered with other objects. You want to clearly see the collar once it's rezzed. Once you've got it on the ground, you can increase the size again, then take it back into inventory and wear it. If the collar is "copy", make a duplicate before you wear it again, so that if you accidentally shrink it too much, you can just toss the copy, duplicate the original, and try again. I don't think your mistress will be shocked to discover that SL is the cruelest mistress of all. Good luck! ETA: I really like Lindal's method, try that first.
  17. Hi Perkey, Something's broken in the event posting system. You aren't the only one to notice... http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Everything-Else/I-keep-getting-quot-adult-material-quot-warning-when-I-try-to/qaq-p/2526001
  18. Hi Ronin, It sounds like the things you've purchased are boxed. You'll need to rez the box and take the contents back into your inventory before wearing. Here's a tutorial... http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Opening-boxes/ta-p/700185 Good luck!

  20. Hiya PrettyGirl, You must download, install, and run the Second Life Viewer. And that's just the beginning! I recommend you read the Quick Start Guide, SL has a pretty steep learning curve. Welcome aboard!
  21. Hi Regina, Well, it's a mix of wardrobe, special effects and... attitude! But first, you'll have to actually get in-world. That will require you to download and install the Second Life viewer. After that, you've got some basics to learn from the Quick Start Guide. And once you're familar with dressing your avatar and getting around SL, you can do quick search for "genie in a bottle" in the Second Life Marketplace. I think you'll find useful things there. Welcome to Second Life. Good luck. Have fun!
