  1. Hi Tesslyn, I'm as stumped as Rolig. Local textures work fine on my Mac. Have you restarted it? Have you verified your HD with Disk Utility?

  3. Hippie! It's almost Monday! Time for a puddle crawl... Happy Saturday, Kids!!!
  4. Hi Azure, It's been ages since I've noodled with Windows, but I think there must be a tool for observing the running task list and seeing what's using CPU/GPU resources. It's possible that launching SL loads some process that doesn't unload when you quit (don't ask me why!). If you can find that process and determine that SL loads it (check before and after launching SL), you could manually kill it until you find out why it's not unloading when you quit. Good luck!
  5. Hi Enne, I like Theresa's memory explanation a lot. It's also possible, though feels less likely to me, that your graphics processor is being throttled by the operating system to reduce heating. That can sometimes result in SL crashing. It's been ages since I ran SL in Windows, but I recall GPU related crashes at that time, and I had to scale back my graphics settings to avoid them. I had the same issue on a Mac, and fixed it by scaring the dust bunnies out of the fans. Good luck!
  6. Hi Nina, You may be suffering from "bake fail". Here's a page that may help... http://wiki.phoenixviewer.com/phoenix:bake_fail It's written for Firestorm, but applies to most viewers. And Nalates Urriah has things to say about bake fail as well... http://blog.nalates.net/2013/08/23/second-lifes-new-bake-fail/ Good luck!
  7. Marigold Devin wrote: It sure beats "Pull my finger" in real life. Were we ever to meet in RL, and you gently reached out and touched the tip of my nose, I would beep. I have done this, regardless of circumstance, since I was a child. I've a few friends who know this, and wait for the most inopportune moment to test me, always with the hope that the embarassment will be too great and I'll stay quiet. But good grief, what's more embarassing than reaching out to touch someone's nose? My beep is not only reflexive, it's an expression of the heartfelt joy of watching a dear friend do something completely silly. My ex-husband sometimes touched my nose during the heat of the moment. I never faked a beep.

There's nothing more important than When my brother's speaking with people/friends/family on the phone, he always gets the last word/sentence in by saying ... .... "oh... just one more thing ... "Okay, give it a pull". The moment they respond, I log out. One of my friends is now a step ahead of me. When she senses that it's the end of my evening, she "pushes the red button" and I have no choice but to immediately log out. I love those silly games.
  9. Ack, I didn't read your tracert carefully. The thread dead routes may be exactly that, dead routes. The remaining routes all seem pretty low latency. Try the things on Nalates' blob article I linked in my first response. I've done a few of those things over the yers, like switching to Google DNS, and got better results, not only for SL but for other internet activities. Here's the link again... http://blog.nalates.net/2011/10/26/troubleshoot-your-sl-connection/ Come over to the Answers section of the forum and ask there. You'll get the attention of some different people, who may have more ideas to offer. Give not only the results of your tracert, but also what kind of PC you have, which OS, etc. The more you tell us, the more we'll be able to help.

  11. Three of your 16 ping requests timed out. If that's typical of your connection, SL isn't going to work. SL is very fussy about both latency and errors and less so about speed. You can have a blazingly fast connection overall, but if it stalls or sends bad packets, SL will throw a hissy fit. And this is because SL sends some (not all) information via an "unassured" but low latency method (UDP).
  12. Hi PuttyPuppy, SL is particularly finnicky about packet errors and timeouts. I'm not sure I'm reading your log correctly, but it appears you have both happening. Getting back to a wired connection might help, and here's a good resource for improving whatever connection you do have... http://blog.nalates.net/2011/10/26/troubleshoot-your-sl-connection/ Good luck!

  14. Hi Lady, Come back to edit your question, adding more information that may help us help you. Tell us what viewer are you trying to use, what kind of PC/operating system, etc. Does the entire computer lock up, requiring a restart? Do you get any error messages? You can edit your question via "Options" over there on the right.
  15. Good morning, Hippie and Val. It's raining. Spring is finally here. Time for a morning walk... Happy Friday, Kids!!!
  16. As Rolig says, what's in inventory stays in inventory. If you give edit permission to someone, they can move/edit anything you leave rezzed in-world. If they delete something, it returns to your Lost and Found folder. They can only take things that are transferrable, and those things will take on the thing's "next owner" privileges. It's been a long time since I handed stuff between alts, but I think this is a potentially permissions destroying move, as transferring a thing back to you doesn't restore the original permissions you had, unless you were the creator (and I'm not even certain about that), or the thing was full perm. Hopefully someone more familiar with this particular potential "gotcha" will weigh in. The SL permissions system has always been somewhat mysterious to me, particularly because a thing can be built of parts with different permissions.
  17. Hi Babe, You bid via your web browser. Here's the entry page... http://usd.auctions.secondlife.com And here's the FAQ (which is linked on the entry page)... http://usd.auctions.secondlife.com/faq Happy hunting!

  21. Hi Kari, At the very end of the listen handler that receives messages from llDialog(), you issue another llDialog() that's exactly like the one in your touch_start handler. So, every time you click a dialog button, the window goes away and immediately returns. And because I can't resist... http://vimeo.com/17346855

  23. Yeah, I fielded this problem recently for a Mac user who couldn't select any image files from the built in browser. She had instant success with Safari. I never use the built in browser because it's crap.

Note that the patent is a design patent for the ornamentation of the headset, and not concerned with the operational technology. I found no applications. I imagine there could be applications filed under other names (perhaps for purposes of obfuscation) or with requests for nonpublication (which carries restrictions), but it takes a magnificent leap of journalistic ignorance to believe Oculus has a "whole heap" of anything except... Facebook's cash and stock. ETA: Additional info concerning applications and dialing back of unwarranted certainty ;-)
  25. Holger is right, Sam. There's no list, and no way to choose beyond picking the style of your home. However, you can pick a house, check it out, then abandon it if you don't like it or the neighborhood. Keep doing that until you're happy! You're allowed to do this up to five times per day.
